  1. Glad it worked out, I thought maybe it would bounce to much and not cut into the soil.
  2. I was right, didn't sleep for crap, finally at 6am I got moving. Well we worked hard today, first we spread the lime using our Foresters spreader, it was a huge time saver. Then we spread the fertilizer over top and used the compact tractor and york take to work it into the soil and level out some spots while picking up left over roots from the dozer work. After that we went around and picked up some rocks and then called it a day. Heading back up in the morning to clear anything else and spread the seed and wait for rain. Here are some pictures from each end, I had him leave some hemlocks, a white pine and a couple other stragglers, gives it some character I think.
  3. Vernal pond is already filling up. Deer tracks all around it.
  4. Ok I got seed tonight, plan a seed wasn't in stock and the other seed doesn't come in till Monday, so plan b is winter wheat, oats, rye, clovers, brassicas and Monday I might get some WI oats (I've always wanted to try them). Getting up early to head up to lay my eyes on it for the first time and get spreading lime, fert and seed. We had him dig out in a small vernal pond just up wind of the plot so will have to seed around that, while he did that he used the left over dirt to build up a 4wheeler path that ran thru a wet area. I'm so excited I might not get much sleep!
  5. Sure is!! Up wind is nice and open
  6. Pic from today, man I'm getting excited!!
  7. Yeah he said the quality of the Ash was less and the wood was turning grey from the borer
  8. Our logger told me prices are down on red oak and Ash now
  9. Haha ok will have to check the stomach if you get one of them, if it has food plot food it, it's gonna cost ya. All honesty i don't get all up in arms about that stuff. Id be happy as heck for ya
  10. Yeah, there is a bunch of beech now removed and hopefully it doesn't come back.
  11. Thanks gman, not a farm around for miles, were up in the hills and all that's around are woods. Id like to plant right way so I can get a jump on any weeds trying to establish them selves and times kinda important as we have two more out of town weekend baseball tournaments coming up then we're right into football season and im coaching so I won't have a ton of time. Another important thing I need something that will continue to grow while being browsed, as it's a smaller plot and will be under constant stress I believe. We had a small plot yrs ago and planted buckwheat and they wiped it out in no time.
  12. Ph was 5.3 and id guess it's about an acre in size.
  13. Well they started clearing out the area for the food plot today, he said it should be done in the next couple days. Looks like I might be planting this weekend, thankfully we have no tournaments either. I need a good seed option to get it established while building up the ph and carrying an attractive food source thru the winter. Any thoughts? I haven't dug into the best options but I was thinking off the top of my head, maybe oats, winter wheat and rye. Thoughts?
  14. Our team stunk it up this am and lost 3-1, team couldn't get a hit to save their lives, just about every kid either hit the ball and got out or struck out, it's to bad they were so off, if they played that team 10 more times we'd win all of them.
  15. Team went 3-0 in pool play, out scored teams 45-1, this team is really good.
  16. We started a tourney last night, mercied the team, same thing this am. Next games at noon and it's getting hot!
  17. All I know is I have enough crap to figure out each day at work and I don't wanna come home and have to figure out who's who on here!
  18. Am I the only one with a kid still playing baseball?? We had a weekend off until one of his previous coaches called asking if he fill in for a team who is down 2 players for Saturday, so no days off.
