  1. fair. and i'd say "sometimes" they're not fatal. All us deer hunters know that nothing is absolute.
  2. I swear with you guys sometimes. bears are notoriously hard to judge size. All we have is the ears and the triangle. Just a conversation about how big he is and nothing more and not a conversation in front of the young lady. give your virtue signaling a rest.
  3. Tenderloins and heart tacos! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. they are not fins. they are vertebrae and to be frank, your opinion is wrong. It's a medical fact that this is the animals spine... I'm lost with you guys sometimes... if it's not his spine then what is it? And who faked the moon landing and who killed JFK while we're at it?
  5. last i'll say on this as it's distracting from the thread. Vertebrae are the 33 individual, interlocking bones that form the spinal column. https://www.spine-health.com/glossary/vertebra-vertebrae-plural#:~:text=Vertebrae are the 33 individual, transverse processes for ligament attachment. That is considered the spine, whether it will sever the spinal cord is a different discussion yes. And while I don't disagree that there are exceptions to rules, I don't believe it's likely at all to blast those vertebrae, even with a broadhead and have a buck bleed the way the double lung hit buck of Don's did. end of discussion for me.
  6. i'll admit to never spineing a deer, but idk man... point is that it wouldn't have blead like Don's deer did if hit "above"
  7. PS yesterday was a crazy day and I didn't get to check back in since about 8:30 and wanted to congratulate all that scored and anyone who had a good woods sit even without a tag punched. Big congrats to Don on the recovery we were all hoping for and Bionic on breaking the drought!
  8. ok. I'm sitting looking at a deer. the deer is on all 4 legs. There is no 4" of "above" the spine. It's below.
  9. my dad will only shoot 1 pin for this exact reason. I like the vertical double pin I have, but imagine I'll likely never use the 35 yard as only a few stands even have shots at that distance. Something to consider, as my old man says it's one less thing to worry or think about during the already stressful situation.
  10. again, totally agree with the space between spine and vitals, this does show above (or in this pic to the left) there is no space above the spine. we're all on the same page now i think.
  11. we are saying the same thing. There is a dead zone above lungs and below spine yes. You had orginally stated "above" spine, which I had thought meant that a standing deer could be hit above the spine where there is 4" of fat/meat, when in fact the spine is basically touching the hide of the deer and no room for anything than a hair cut if missed high.
  12. it's not like she came here and posted the picture herself, it was just a note when trying to guess at the bears size and weight. I don't think anyone meant anything negative at all. hell if you shoot a nice bear you can stand on your head with a banana hammock on if you want, doesn't matter to me. But "fish hands" and other camera "tricks" will give the illusion to larger horns, fish or animals than they really are. Personally, I think it's easier to tell size when the hunter sits just behind the animal holding its head up. But again, do what you want, i've never killed a bear lol.
  13. Above the spine over the lungs? If you’re talking the gap above the vitals and BELOW the spine then we’re on the same page, but unless your deer lay on their backs for you I think most of us call that below. Glad we’re good now and good luck my friend. It’s finally a calm and relatively cool morning and I’ve already seen 2 deer already. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Perfect! Wolcs a good hunter and knows his stuff, but waiting and risking some meat vs bumping and no meat is absolutely the right call. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I know, my point exactly [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ah the ole 2 step. If it wasn’t challenging it wouldn’t be rewarding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. There’s enough for a haircut, but not 4”, anyone whose ever taken back straps out knows this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I mean if it passed above the spine then he missed outright... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Sending good vibes and inspiration! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Man that outfitter lost my business too for that disaster loss of all my guns. Said bring them all we have such a variety of things to shoot and now I have none left Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Ive seen it go both ways, they’ll be out picking up scraps but also with no place to hide the next few days should be dynamic. You’ll be wanting to catch them on their way to feed which shouldn’t differ all that from when it was standing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Haha right? How do you score squatch btw? Asking for a friend. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
