  1. hunted saturday morning, what a beautiful morning regardless. Small to medium size doe before shooting light. Just a little bit later and I would sent one. Spike around 9:15, called my dad who was 100 yards by the crow flies and he had 6 bucks in different groups sparing around him and a shot at a decent 2.5 that I woulda drilled. Then neighbor sends me a pic of a nice 8 I woulda drilled from his cell came about 30 yards west (which explains the commotion i heard over there), sometimes you just pick the wrong spot. Was ready to hunt this morning despite unfavorable winds for where I was planning on. Truck packed, scent free shower and coffee timer on... and the bed won. I had good sleep but just wasn't feeling it with the warmer temps and wind. Hoping I didn't miss my shot, but after starting a new job I needed the rest. We had a halloween party that I thought I could dip out of early enough to sit this evening, but again not great winds and few beers and that was an easy decision too haha. congrats to all the hunters this weekend. the best is still yet to come boys and girls.
  2. umm where did anybody say anything political?
  3. same. people get frosty in this thread when honestly it's a bunch of campfire talk. But for me it's often a nice place to peek into during the work week when I can't be in the woods and enjoy hearing about others that can
  4. windy as shit yesterday and pouring here in 8f this morning. Was thinking about maybe going out tonight, but it's still early and leery of overhunting this early. With a crisp morning I'm excited for the AM!
  5. sometimes i want whatever it is you're on
  6. a motorcycle forum i belong to did it right. There was a post a pic thread that was just simply that, and then there was a comments thread separate out where discussions and questions could take place. So the members could just scroll straight pics and then others could bs. thought it worked well. If a mod does anything, I'd say retitle this to "harvest thread comments"
  7. idk about you, but i'd take skinny tyra banks so long as the wife is gone for the weekend
  8. there's no debate on if it's an odd pic, it is odd. I'd go a step further and say that there are shadows on the rack and stuff so what appears to be a hell of a buck deserves a little better treatment. I'm curious if there's a sticker there and can't tell for sure. I've been critical of members pictures here in the past where they post some blood and guts that I think are a little disrespectful and provide fodder for the anti's. There's even one here in this thread in a tractor bucket that could have been done a little better imho. That comment is often met with "who f'n cares, it's my choice etc etc." or even better "lets see your big buck then dick from dicksville" haha. but, like you said it's all entertainment and opinion. absolutely congrats to phade here and if we all ranked why we're here on this forum, I think for all of us "learning" is in our top 3. So some color around the story of this deer would help quench that thirst. Sorry phade to hear about your back, but congrats again for a dandy that it seems you and the team worked hard for and deserved.
  9. raised with posting etiquette? i think you and I are around the same age and dead deer "posting" is really only 10 years old or so...
  10. same reason i no longer post harvest pics... but must agree that nobody was giving you a hard time phade, that's an odd pic for sure and i think guys were just wondering what was up.
  11. nevermind i see we're commenting in the harvest thread... and yeah that pic is odd.
  12. i thought i read all the posts in this thread but apparently i missed something?
  13. what i do is keep a tote in my truck where I store my harness, binos, rain gear, extra socks and my outer layers. I then have a tote in the bedroom with all the layers and stuff so no real lugging. I do travel occasionally and i do bring my bag for that as I agree totes that leave the truck or house aren't ideal.
  14. i'm a double lung guy because that heart shot is low in relation to the overall "dead zone", but man when you hit that heart there's nothing sweeter! I don't think I'm in the minority when I say that I try to aim for the top of the heart, if you're a little low it's dead on the heart and of course anything higher is double lung. aim small, miss small.
  15. i do like that bag combo thing. i already have a nice tote... i wonder if i can just buy the generator separately?
  16. anybody use any of the various ozone or ion generators for their clothes storage bins? There's a few out there but they all seemed to have mixed reviews. I'm not buying into the stand units, but I could get behind one for my clothes between hunts.
  17. what a beautiful day, excited for this cold front this weekend.
  18. agreed, most comfortable stand i have, particularly like the rail for gun.
  19. late october/early november is the rut. Nothing wrong with some light rattling now and then in the next few weeks you can step it up as the bucks hormones start to kick in and the chase begins.
  20. Is the youth season tag reg season? Just curious as I don’t know and won’t need to for another 6 haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I doubt you’re doing anything wrong. Even my camps have slowed dramatically. Give it 10 days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Seriously, felt the same way... like wtf? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I would say something is off if you had a complete miss. Most bows will shoot pretty flat between 20-30, so you may have been low to begin with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
