you have no scientific stats to support #7. Therefore it's not a fact, but an opinion. And if you point me to the NYCC website's poll that's no different than pointing me to a fox news poll on who should be the next president.

Seems the whole thread is dedicated to how hard they are... so I'm not sure "noone" is a fair statement. Also, I'm glad you now labeled me as an anti I've also posted about getting a recurve. There's a fine line between harvesting deer and just straight up making it challenging. You have to cater to the masses and you have to make it sporting. We talk about baiting, ARs, snipers and spotlighting. All topics that either help improve the sporting aspect of deer hunting or help control the population. For me, the crossbow crosses the line and the DEC has made no secret that it's all about population control. And I think that's sad as archery tag sales have been increasing every year. They should focus on the gun season and leave what was working alone.

i do not doubt that some do. but most? that's just silly.

How does this picture make you feel?
Five Seasons replied to Five Seasons's topic in General Hunting
This was my thought. If you read through the comments, it certainly stirred up some of the animal rights group. I fully support shooting yotes legally. I don't see the need to glamorize it. Some things that we do in life are distasteful, but necessary. Yote shooting is one of them. I just don't see the need to post it for the world to see. An animal lover would only need to see one video of yotes killing and eating a fawn alive to understand the other side, but that side of the story isn't told in this picture and most likely those that develop a distaste for hunting and hunters from this picture will never see that side of the story. Necessary, just doesn't help our cause. -

I'm 30. I've shot everything you mentioned with the exception of a flintlock, but would love to if I had the opportunity.

thread titles were invented so you could avoid a thread clearly dedicated to a topic some feel passionate about. If Burm were to run a report I bet this site has seen more traffic the last few days then the last few months combined.

You said all I would have said and more. Fair or not, it's also how I feel and have always felt that both seasons offered each experience and a hunter could enjoy their style or both. Now... are we blurring the lines?

says the guy who's affraid to climb a tree. NY must be the only state where they hunt from stands... I mean I've never seen anybody on tv hunt from one. I know you're in love with the western style of hunting... because they have no trees. So I'll let it go. But don't forget those are the same guys shooting animals at 800 yards with their high power scopes.

I think your mincing my words. If you COULD choose to have the whole woods to yourself, 99% would say yes. However, we know this isn't the case so we accept it. Any bowhunter who has been hunting the same spot for decades may feel a change this year and my point is that it's understandable to be frustrated. Nobody likes change. Especially when it's detrimental. As for NYB. You must never have been to another state's hunting website. There is a NYB for almost all other states that fought it at one point or another. and at that time I'd bet if we researched the amount of land that is now full of walmarts, subdivisions and strip malls was land for deer. That the number of farms was perhaps double what it is now.

and that guys shooting a compound is dead. lasted 1 episode. and lost his claim to the rabbit

Yes because a politician has never been influenced by an industry and admitted to it...

IT IS EASIER! It may not be as easy as they think, but there's no debate that it's not easier.

I don't know where you gathered I was still shooting spooked deer. I've given my rundown of archery kills enough for you to know I've never lost one. And that means I've had years with no buck tags filled.

Remember that crossbows are for some reason considered archery eqyuipment and their distance is 250'. A better title for your thread would be "vertical bow discharge limits now 150'"
-
I read the first 3 and it was obvious that it trivializes the benefits with terms like "the only difference is that it holds the draw" that's not a small deal. that's freaking huge. How many deer have we all spooked by not timing our draw?
-
it goes both ways. why the big space? did you intentionally hold down the tab or space bar? And also... What?

I've never been a fan of using that as an argument. But the public land hunters will be impacted just by sheer presence of more hunters. Yes guns make noise, but the boom of human activity during gun is what sends the deer into hiding and nocturnal. An archery hunter is genearlly far more careful with scent and noise or they'd never get a shot. For a private land owner, crossbows will have little to no affect. For public land hunters, it is selfish but understandable to want the woods to yourself. Wouldn't we all? You just can't have it that way and more hunters will mean less opportunities unless you're dedicated enough to get in earlier than the next guy and in the right spot to use the pressure to your advantage.

and taking a deer from the ground with a compound is harder than taking one from the ground with an xbow. you can't change 2 variables. Your comparison is not apples to apples. the regulation does not outlaw crossbow hunting from a stand.
-
neighbors don't always get a long. They may take any chance they get to stick it to their neighbor. Right or wrong. I agree that I wouldn't want a dead deer, or could I live with knowing an animal went to waste to prove a point. All of our neighbors have all agreed to recovery rights for all, and that's the way it should be.

I'm not, I just work in the world of risk management. And to be only reactive and not proactive is just silly. Put the filters in place and your life is also easier. And don't be hypocritical when you have a .gif that gives the middle finger and whose code is a swear.

remote actuated trigger with a gopro and you're good!
