  1. I hunt letchworth and they say we must wear orange and i have had no problem with my deer take..I will wear orange in any kind of gun season for deer but for bow and turkey...Thats pushin it!!!!
  2. Thats what i was tryin to say when i said if change was to happen for a couple years people might think it was a change for the good. Some will still say they dont want antlers,They want meat. That would not be a problem because there still would be chances for does and small bucks..There just wouldnt be as much time as there is now!!
  3. I dont think they do it for the bow hunters to have the best hunting it would be more like making it harder to kill bucks at a time when they are at their weakest.Everyone cant just reach out and dump them at 200 yards. The same with muzzle you only have one shot when you do get one..
  4. Thats what alot of the states have.Bow during the rut and a seperate muzzleloading and gun season with muzzle in the late season!!
  5. Fact is some people dont like change and some dont give a rats a## about antlers.I hnow you are never going to make everybody happy but i think if some of these changes did happen even for a couple years it would change some thoughts..
  6. Thats ok i turn wrenches for a living also. You can go to any farm store or even wamart and get a kit to check yur soil. You have to use distilled water,do not use tap or well water. As sone as spring green up go in and spray then wait a week or two then till.I like to go in and till it again after a couple more weeks. You can google food plots and get all kinds of info and trust me when you start seeing the deer in your plot you will have a great feeling not that you can just shoot one but you are helping out the whole herd.I had 9 deer in my corn field xmas morning and they were lovin it..
  7. Soil test first thing!!! You have ferns so there might be some soil work im sure...Lime,fertilizer...Get in a spray roundup and kill everything in there before you work up the soil...Cant beat corn for a late season candy for the deer..When i do my plots its alfalfa,corn,soybeans..If you have no corn for miles that would really bring them in for the late season but its best to give them different choices if you have the room to split the plot..
  8. No doubt,I had 4 bucks chase a fawn by me on letchworth last sunday..2 were shooters and 2 little guys...Of course thay were on the ridge next to me and a little far for the knight...They were freaking that little girl out i will tell you that...She had no idea what all the fuss was about...LOL
  9. Thanks wny!!!! Sky no its a climber made by summit..Very nice stand for the serious bowhunter!!! The reason for the sale is first i have 2 vipers and second i bought my land after the climber and i put lock on stands in all kinds of places on the property so it will just catch dust in the garage..Someone will get a great stand at a great price!!!!
  10. I agree and thats why ny will never be in the same catagory as some of the great deer states and even some places in canada..But hey it is what it is and for the most part i think people are ok with that!!!
  11. I have a summit viper treestand for sale if there is any interest..Its called an openface i believe. Its the same as the regular viper it just doesnt have the bar around the top half.It is made for the bowhunter in mind.It is 3yrs old, used 5 times mabey and is in new condition!!! Would like $175 for it but open to offers or mabey trade up...
  12. I dont think it will happen either. The thing i look at is other states that have shorter seasons with different weapons have a better deer herd and alot of huge bucks. Some states will not have the gun season during the rut,bow only.I think thats a great idea as long there is a doe season involved somewhere also.I am content with the way things are now and i think most are.No matter what happens if anything there is always going to be some against change. If you look at some of the big bucks that were shot this year it shows that ny can make some good deer and that might be that there is more people doing their own qdm and lettin the little guys walk more often.
  13. Thats right twice as hard to get it done with the bow=Less deer shot.Twice as hard with muzzle(one shot)= Less deer shot!!2 week gun=Less deer shot!!! People complain about not enough deer out there well this would save a few lives thats for sure. You would have to use your weapon and hunt deer or you might not get one.
  14. 2 weeks bow,2 Weeks shotgun, rifle and 2 weeks muzzleloading one either sex tag for each 2 week hunt and no doe tags also a major crackdown on the dmaps and the crazy act of letting someone drive around at night with a light in their hand shooting anything they want!!
  15. Alot can happen in 3 years.90% of the deer is those pics were more than likely taken out by some farmers light.I dont think there was much of a problem with people complaints about no deer before these farm and landowner tags came around...But that will open another can of worms!!!
  16. Must have been a good day for deer movement everywhere!!! I am on letchworth and took a big doe this morning.Saw 17 deer and not a horn..I think they are starting to group up for winter!!
  17. I have a weatherby vanguard 300mag that does the same thing. If you dont unload from the bottom you have to take the saftey off in order to work the bolt!!!
  18. Thats a tough one!!! I think there should be limits and i think these permits in the end will be the demise of deer hunting as we used to know it.It wont be long and the deer population in the south will be like the big woods up north. On the other hand you have land owners tryin to make a living off the land.I sure can feel for the hunters on the other property!!!
  19. There is no doubt in my mind that they are hurting the doe population in 6g and on letchworth state park.I own land in 6g and have hunted letchworth for 18 straight years and i can say 100% that they are hurting the park. There was a time when you could go on the park and see deer everywhere and not just in the saftey zones on each end of the park.I think there should be a set rule that if they want tags they open the land to some hunting and it would need to be documented on paperwork.
  20. Thats what i use in my 20 and i have had good luck with them.I shot a doe this year and it was a pass through at about 125yds.She ran mabey 50yds with double lung shot. They leave a good hole but i think with the 20 being so fast you will find the same with any slug.I had good sucess but i also had clear shot with good slug placement!!
  21. We do it on letchworth if they end up to close to the river and to far from a trail. There has also been times we just cut it in halves. We left one down there this year,a nice 9pt,and went to get more help and when we got back down there a black bear had decided that he wanted it more than us.We did not disagree with him in the pitch dark with no guns.Went back down the next day and found he had buried what he didnt eat!!!!
  22. I guess you are not to far from me!!!!My land borders ft drum in 6g!!!!
  23. Great camp bubba!!!!Are you in the north or in the south part of the state????
  24. I hunt letchworth in 8m and i can tell you in over 17 years of hunting the park i have never seen it so bad!!!!!I hear tales of farms with 60 plus permits and of just gut shooting and let them run off.I found 2 this year on the first day of shotgun but they were to far gone to find a wound but the yotes had not found them yet!!!
