  1. I live in evans mills and i know of a guy that traps and he lives in philly. He is trustworthy and a very good trapper. It also helps that he is a watertown police officer....Give me a pm if you would like his number!!!!!
  2. Great story and that would be a great time but if you try that today you will end up in jail. With land posted up the way it is today you couldnt go a mile without seein a boat load of posted signs. That must have been the days when a guy could walk anywhere they wanted and not have any worries!!
  3. The big problem i see is first and formost is the freakin nuisance permits givin to farmers. You cant tell me there are that many deer anywhere in ny that someone needs to be out shooting them at night. In the area i hunt 8m on and around letchworth state park the deer are just not there like they once were.I hunt a farm the borders the saftey zone on the park and the deer are not even there. The farm down the road shoots them at night and will not let even bowhunters on the land.On top of that it is said that they just gut shoot them with 22mag and let them run off and die.(found 2 starting to rot on opening day of gun but to bad to find wound)I can see a few dmaps if the farm opens up to some hunters....
  4. Fasteddie you just made my day. That was a lmao......
  5. If that was the case,Yes i would take it!!At this time in my life i would let him walk!!!
  6. Great lookin buck!!! They must all be gettin pretty wide down there!!! From the look of some of those trees,There must be some 30inchers runnin around!!!
  7. Great looking buck!!!I would guess him in the 125 range but he might make 130.Either way...great buck.Congrats!!!
  8. I own land across from ft drum in the number 3 area!!!!Lots of big sign on post this year. Its a great place to hunt if you have a chance!!
  9. Kudos to you!!!You did what the other half of the hunting world would not have done.Somewhere tonite there is a happy camper havin a cold one and thanking you over and over again.Great job!!!!!
  10. Yup thats what he hit.A buddy of mine did the same thing a couple years ago but his was a 134in ten point. It was an awsome deer. That deer went down in sight of the treestand and man did it look like a paint can was dumped in the woods.
  11. Thats what we get out of bed for every morning,in the freakin rain and wind again!!!!! I am on letchworth state park and went for a ride last night,Saw 3 about that size but you know it was 9pm so deer were everywhere.Great deer!!!Anyone would be proud to slap a tag on that one!!
  12. This time of year i will be in any chance i get.Early in the season i like to wait till the night watch as it seems the deer are out in the fields and i dont want to bump them.I just sit at night and catch them on the way back out.
  13. Congrats on a neat deer!!!! I have to ask though was it healthy or growing normal??? The only reason i ask is that in the pic it looks a little thin in the backbone area around the loins...
  14. That is real early and if she was bred that would put her fawning in april and im not so sure if mother nature would let that happen....Possible i guess.. We have had fawns born the first week of may but never in april.
  15. Pre-rut will start as soon as the bucks get the velvet off.I had yearlings scatter does in front of me on opening day of bow season. They were grunting and actin like it was the first week of november.Charlie still has deer behind high fence i believe and i am sure he watcheswhat they do to get some of his info. The earliest we have ever had a doe breed was on nov 3rd!!!!
  16. I hunted there years ago and it was bow only!!!!I amnot sure if it still is but i can tell you that at that time i believe they were inbred on the island!!I mean there were times i would have 4 or 5 fawns come by and they were still in spots....In November!!!....Not good at all and most all the deer were skinny and small!!!! It might be different now and i have heard of some decent bucks taken on private land but never on the park itself.
  17. I am on letchworth and have let 6 basket yearlings pass on by.Have seen 17 deer today, nothing big but i can tell you that these yearlings are drivin the does nuts all day!!!!
  18. Yeah that would be like the one's that say shoot all spikes because thats all they will ever be...I have seen august born buck fawns that were spikes their first year and be 130 inch 2yr olds!!!!I agree i dont think the cull thing would work in the wild because we dont know what kind of genetics we are takin out when we shoot one!!!
  19. I will be 3hrs from home sitting on letchworth state park so i will sit all morning then go scout the bottom where i sit during shotgun season and back to the stand for the afternoon watch!!!!
  20. I really think most of ny deer farmers are just that..Luv to hunt and to be around deer.I think there are very few harvest facilitys in ny.Now in pa its a muli-million doller biz. There are also alot of farms but just as many harvests. You can go to a site called whitetailexchange.com and look around at what is out there in the world of deer. All different shapes and sizes. Some look like deer and some....Well not so much!!!!!
  21. OK i dont know if anyone asked or not but as far as getting it they do it just like they do a bull...Electro-ejackulation..One draw can get anywhere from 10 to 80 straws..They pack the straws with semen and a fluid called extender and pack it at 50.000 sperm count per straw.I have seen straws go upwards of 20grand for a 315 inch yearling!!! Doc ny state does a herd check every year and we have to be tb tested every 3 years and as far as cwd you have to do 10% of your herd each year and any deer that dies behind any fence of natural causes or harvest has to be tested.NY State is the strictest state of all states the have deer behind any fence. There are only 115 deer farms in ny and over 1200 in pa...
  22. Have not sold any so far and as of now just scent and semen.I am not sure on breeding any this year so i dont get more than i can handle.I am sure someday i will have to decide what to do with them but as for now i dont see them going anywhere!!!!
  23. I first got deer to start collecting my own scent for me and some of my buddies.I am no different than anybody else on this site as i have hunted over 30 years, went on many hunts and have been lucky to have 700 acres of my own land and have done qdm and taken some great bucks!!!I know some people are greatly against high fence hunting and to be honest i am 50/50 on it myself.I think there is a place for it if they are big enough in size and not just tame deer and those so called canned hunts.I know i have been in huge enclosers and bow hunted a single picked out deer and he was huge and believe it or not he was mostly nocturnel like most big bucks in the wild.We had all kinds of night pics and not many daytime.I will tell you that i think a person should have a right to do as they will when it comes to raiseing animals on their own property as long as it is decent conditions and done with taste. The whitetail deer is a great animal and truly loved by many and none more than me.When it comes to harvesting an animal behind a fence a deer is really no different than a farm animal if used for personal harvest.I know there are places that make big money on their deer alive as well as harvested and i guess it to each their own.I know i dont have the big cash to harvest those deer but i will tell you that having the pleasure of being in front of huge 200 class deer standing on your land in your presence and care for them and watch them grow is just a pleasure to see.I dont see them going anywhere soon!!!!
