The Psychology Behind the Quest For Trophy Racks
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Doc's topic in Deer Hunting
True That. But you are still a minority in the big picture. Anybody can call anything a trophy but In the real world that is bone. The part I don't get about the trophy haters is that even though things can be done to improve that part of it there will still be plenty of the little guys around for them to shoot. -

That's all sweet and fine that's makes you feel fuzzy. I sure would be interested in how hard or tough or interesting it was to kill a few of those bucks you posted today if a smart old doe is your thing. And as far as this thread started everyone very well knew when he said trophy he said BONE! And as has been said. A few on here really don't have a clue what a trophy hunter is all about. Shooting Buttons and baby bucks for the freezer is their thing. -

So let's see here. You are a self spoken meat hunter that will not kill any old deer because they taste like road apples yet you have shot 120's. Huh. Strange! Yearling 120's? So you say you mist fill the tag because you have it? You also say the rack means sh!te to you? You get the chance to get what 6-8 doe tags in your area on top of your buck tag late season? So again. Coming out both sides! The thread is about trophy racks! Which are the only trophies in whitetail hunting! Less you want to start measuring other things. It's all about the Bone for the majority of hunters! Period! -

I honestly don't know why someone that has hunted say 10-15 years and has been fairly successful killing bucks would even think about filling that buck tag with a lesser animal? The only time that would happen is in the rough parts of the state and any able body hunter can go 2 hours either way and fix that problem -

So you are after meat! This thread is about trophies? I can't see how half you people can even reply to a thread that you even admit yourself you know nothing about?? If you don't have a goal which is size of a deer, which in Ny state would be considered a Trophy animal and you either take that size animal or you swallow your tag then you are clueless to what a real trophy whitetail is! Yes any kids eyes might show a spike as a trophy which my first 4pt did but if we are in Ny and we are talking trophy class for this state one would have to say roughly 120 inch buck and up. Well it's obvious that many that reply have never hit that mark so how can they say? -

Personal goals? Deer Hunting? Now please do tell what a person that has hunted 40 plus years has killed about every size whitetail available in Ny state would have for a goal if not meat or a trophy? This has nothing to do with freaking bird watching or butterflies getting their groove on! Do try to stick to what the Op started and run with that. So what's your personal goal when you step in the woods opening day of deer hunting? Let me guess. You will say something about staying alive or a nice sunrise?? -

Oh must be another bald guy huh well at least you know what real deer look like now! As far as what you said you are full of it. Guys that hunt for meat fill their tags at the first chance the get at and legal deer. As far as sitting and watching things..Trust me. Us that hunt the king of the species and not the babies watch, learn and know more than the meat hunters. You can spout off this and that but everyone on here knows you try to talk out both sides of your face. No mature deer this and only young deer that. Whatever! -

So it's all about getting great meat to eat but some may just sit and let that great meat walk by very well knowing they will not kill a mature deer because it tastes like crap? Right. One can bird watch all day long everyday in the woods without a gun in their hand. If it were truly all about the meat for whitetails it would be bang, bang, bang. Tags filled and my great meat is in the freezer! Now I can go sit in the woods and watch the world go by knowing I did my duty. -

My question would be to the guys that want the best meat and shoot the first legal buck that comes by..How are you in the woods longer than say the first week? More like weekend but will give the benefit. Deer rich lands in deer rich counties you should never even have to worry about seeing to many old rutted up trophies to have to worry about killing them? -
Nice deer for sure for many a people but the last 6-8 years or so the weapon would not get lifted for any but #4. If i have found bigger in the area with him and it was early season then he would prob get the pass also. Then kick myself in the arse for not taking him while i throw that tag away. I believe hunters age and past play a huge part in making choices.Having your own property or land locked down makes a big difference in many hunters choices. Even big areas of state land with multiple keepers on it would have an effect on when to lower the boom on a buck.

A bow hunter will always have a step up on the Hunter part of it just because of what it takes with a bow. Many gun shooters do not have what it takes to be a bow hunters and so,so many more do not have it to be a mature/Trophy buck bow hunter.Just the way it is. Now many use their muzzleloader to get them more of a one on one hunt. Some chose to work their ass off up in the big woods where deer are few and even with a high powered rifle they still have to "Hunt" more for their success. For the average guy to go out with his trusty 300mag and dump one from a tower blind in the center of a field?? A "Hunt" yes but not the kind of Hunter a bow hunter must be to harvest mature deer.

Remove all mineral and feed sites...
Four Season Whitetail's replied to growalot's topic in Deer Hunting
Midges are in the mud and will be there regardless of any feed or minerals. They will blow on the breeze just like they will come North on loads of Cattle coming in from infected areas. EHD is the only real killer of Whitetails but all the money goes to the study of that stuff you dont want this thread to talk about. Money to pay white coats to do more useless research. -

Ya Hell we can wait around another 50 plus years to find out. So far science shows it has not jumped and the disease itself has shown to be of no harm to any herds anywhere. Funny how you guys that worry about deer and CWD do not worry about sheep and scrapies? Same exact disease with the same exact prions that have the same exact outcome????? Go Figure. But ya you are right. Never been a proven case of death from CWD. But a whole bunch of man killed deer with the harmless disease. -

Four Season Whitetail's replied to growalot's topic in Deer Hunting
Still all just a money grab by the state. Lets stop people from feeding deer food and minerals because it may be one of the things on the long list that may spread CWD and then we will bring untested Elk into our state from CWD positive herds! Oh and lets not forget to put the request in for more cash to do CWD research. It was a joke back then and a bigger joke now. And they wonder why people dont pay attention to their law's. -
Andy will be making weed legal here soon and that will save many.

Good Luck with your tests. I just went thru those tests myself last month. 1 up and 1 down. That pre test stuff is the pits. I was also found to have the start of Diver... Knock on wood no pain yet or anything like you had but have to slow down on the xtra peppers and such on the sub's. -
Didn't know there was any other way. Many that don't have farms have no clue! Let's just say all rules do not apply to everyone. From dumping to controlled burns.
-
Or have other prove your a schmuck. When you become entitled a farmer you may learn something. Chirp,Chirp Chirp is all we hear.
-
Well if she is blocked by so many why do you keep chirping in? Its all in the wording what farmers can and cant do.... Oh Crap...There's a Yote! Be Right Back!
