  1. In my case its all about the challenge. Most hunters all have that same feeling of love of the woods and gods great things, Thats A Givin!!!! After 40 years of taking whitetails there is not much of a challenge anymore. When 99.9% of hunters wake up each morning to walk to that stand it is in hopes of killing the biggest beast in the woods. All the gear, the food plots, Trail Cams all for the same reason for most. Now many dont/cant do that so they end up settling for a lesser buck. We still do our part in taking does and filling freezers but will never again take a smaller buck. Have plenty of them and not really hard to do and really not much of a "Hunt" per say. Now go out and find a couple 3-4-5 year old whitetails and do what you have trained yourself to do for all these years and lower the boom on one of them on their turf and their terms and you will get the real feel of "Hunting" for something. Just dont expect that feeling to come around alot. I can hunt everyday of every season in a couple great deer parts of the state on 1000,s of acres of private and State property and i only get it about every 2-3 years. Well worth the wait.
  2. Two perfect posts to end this part of the discussion. Now is there any way to see an updated pic of that antlered doe that was put up awhile back? That was one girl i would like to see the finished Rack of.
  3. Good answer............You mean the real truthful hunters! Stick around, You may learn something. Or just sit back and keep it shut cause it really does have nothing to do with you? Except putting pics up, Seems like you like to do that to get the back slap in every aspect!
  4. Maybe its time for you to check out? Also has nothing to do with your style!
  5. Yeah permit to carry but not while having a bow in hand? Hmmm Wonder how that works out?
  6. Easy Now!! Even us Deer Farmers respect and enjoy our animals as much as the wild ones. Probably even more because most also make 6 figures doing it. Forget he even said that Stub.
  7. Now that is something i would devote my season on if he was in my area's of choice. Not that i would not have 1 or 2 backups in the area looked at but yeah...That Would Work!
  8. Yeah no doubt! Some think we are all young pups! Lol Some of us have evolved in our hunting career and matured to the point of only finding the top of the line to be of any kind of challenge any longer We still shoot deer for our freezers but just not baby deer We have done about everything in this sport that can be done as far as harvests are concerned Any deer is no longer an issue to shoot and like the stub says it's no big deal to go shoot something in areas where there are 1000's of them But to pick out just 1 or 2 out of those 1000's which happen to also be the oldest and the smartest and go take one on their turf and terms! Now that's hunting! Not Shooting!
  9. Not good at all. Same issue here a few years back. Have to declare war to get ahead of them. Great bucks for early pull WNY!
  10. Yeah that's what I was thinking. 200 in 35 years? 6 a year? From a spot that didn't have doe tags till when?? Not that it really matters but 200??? Like you said!
  11. Guess we can agree on one thing! You really are clueless when it comes to older aged Trophy whitetails. I have had my ass humbled many a time by trophy size bucks right in your back yard. Not a year goes by that I don't find and hunt at least 2 bucks that will either make the book or my book. Am I lucky? The very smallest part is luck when you can do it on any kind of basis. Very few just walk in and stumble on a trophy buck! Luck into it as you say. I have patterned bucks on the park that do not leave the bottom until it's dark out and they are back in their beds on the bottom before daylight after they have came out of the bottom, across the park road and chased does in our Alfalfa fields all night! You really need to keep that luck thing with your little guys I guess because very few trophy deer are lucked upon in the big picture of deer hunting!
  12. I love that theory of the luck involved. If a trophy hunter is just lucky when he kills the smartest deer in the woods then what's it called for those that kill the dumbest and the babies?
  13. Yeah that's why I said most but with many also doing the bow and muzzy thing most places will get you 3-4 antlerless tags thru out the season.
  14. Yeah that's why I said most but with many also doing the bow and muzzy thing most places will get you 3-4 antlerless tags thru out the season.
  15. That is a pile of lime for sure. Fresh ground that has never been planted or worked before?
  16. And look at the walls....Most all scratching of deer like animals had antlers or horns on their noggin... As far as Doc's reply..It is still the same deal around here, Guys talking of the 10 or 12 taken but yes now most get scored. There are quite a few guys on here that only target mature deer which most times leads to bigger antlers, They are a total different beast to hunt most of the year and there is huge success personally when a hunter takes a buck he has located, hunted and harvested. Its not an easy thing by any means and many either dont have what it takes to do such a task or care to do so, but to me for a meat hunter to kill a little buck in Ny state is kinda a waste in MOST areas of the state, Why kill a small buck when you have 6-8 doe tags available? Ya i know, They paid for it so why not fill it?
  17. Did you do a soil test and find you need that much Lime?
  18. Trophy hunters can find all they need in Ny State. If they know how to find them. For someone to say there is no challenge in shooting a buck is only talking about the size of the bucks he shoots. Go after a real deer one on one and eat the leftover Crow!
  19. Gee we might be able to hear our DEC tell us we cant shoot them like they say with all these Pig's running around. They will take care of the problem. Riiiiiight!
  20. I seriously just laughed out loud seeing you sitting there with your delete finger at the ready but then thinking to yourself that...If i do this and Wolc is that kind of Bro with God....Well who knows what could happen to ya! lol
  21. Overpopulated area you should not have to worry about late season, killing fawns or baby bucks. But we have heard the stories so don't really need to hear them again. Carry On!
  22. Ah Thanks Grow. Maybe your button bone doe will grow up to make it on this thread!
  23. Keep them pic's comin Sweetheart. Maybe she will turn into a Spike Bone for ya ??
