  1. Now look at the age group there? Some say they can't be controlled to any extent? Family group you would say... Pecking order is in place.... Now if something was to happen at the den site a year or two ago how many would be in that picture? If they were classified in this state as vermin as is done in others and a year round season was in place it would be very simple to put a massive dent in any population that was out of control. Just like anything else... you have to start at the beginning!!
  2. Yeah i think you are giving them a little to much credit. If you wait until they are that old to trap and run you will not have the same effect. Those kind of numbers do not just..Learn..to stay off a property. If they moved next door they would still leave sign and you would still hear them at night. Yes we still have some and that is not a problem, a few around are a good thing.
  3. If you would have seen the numbers we had before and then after an all out war on them you could use the phrase..Wipe Out. They do not repopulate like some science says when you take extreme measures on a property. Our 900 acre piece now see's some tracks and a dog here and there compared to having 3 packs in 3 different directions yipping and yapping back and forth to each other on any givin night. Now you hear a single here and there. Their deal breaker is the den site.
  4. No Way????? Have you ever found den's on your property? You locate and deal with the/them at the den site and the population will be cut by an easy 50%. I would say an even higher % in our case and the population around here still has not rebounded anywhere close to the numbers we once had. None taken this deer season although a couple did enjoy a couple long range misses.
  5. So True...But its nice when one has the open time to pick and choose when to hunt. Although at some times of the year a buck may be more apt to show up then others for the most part if you pick the better days to hunt for you it will also be the best time for your game to be up moving. Time comes with age in a hunters life and one must stay healthy and agile to make sure they can still get out and enjoy at an older age......
  6. Yup they need to cross into the Northern Jefferson Cty and do the same, Our numbers are down big time. No does at all for a couple 3 years would be a big help..............
  7. Your Right!! The list that makes for great deer hunting with great healthy herds of Whitetails. Just what Ny should be!
  8. I guess it will all come down to what hunters scream the loudest and as you have seen the biggest crowd is for Crossbow full inclusion and they want bigger trophy deer to hunt. That is what will get things changed up in Ny to make it a more hunter friendly destination for in and out of state hunters. Come to the park opening weekend and look at all the New Hamp's and Vermont plate frames. Why you ask??? Ar and big deer..Thats what most hunters want in todays world........
  9. The older I get the less I will fight the weather. I am in a position where I can hunt whenever I want and a few choices all over the state to hunt. Everyday of the season. That allows for more freedom for sure. Like Doc said we all have pretty much the same drive and enjoyment but now it is a drive of having to take the biggest smartest brute in the area I hunt and the rest turn into video harvests! It all changes with Age!
  10. Its all about change..........Things Change! DEC wants deer dead......But they want to ban baiting, urine and such because of a non proven ghost... Has anyone ever looked at the freedom Texas enjoys? Many other states are the same............Ny is and always has been the stupidest state ever when it comes to many things. They will put XBow in because it will kill more deer off the landscape....Do they have any clue what te downfalls could be? Nope..........Just like many others things they implement.
  11. I would have no problem with the season length......If they moved them around and took guns out of the rut or very minimum have muzzle loaders for the first 7-10 days of the 3rd Saturday opener.
  12. Even if it was made a law and X-Bow's in, most people hunt private land so you can choose to make whatever rules ya all agree upon?
  13. You have no problem chasing these things for 3 months one would not think the weapon would really matter. The crossbow already has the best part of the archery season being in the rut so what's the issue? It can have its own season. The two weeks before opening day of shotgun.
  14. Which very well be the reason they change things around. They see less hunters in certain seasons so they add a season that they have hunters telling them they have interest in hunting? After all they say only a certain number of hunters kill all the deer? They may as well put another tool in the hunters hand that does all the killing! The guy that goes a time or two and may or may not kill a deer is not the guy they will cater to.
  15. It very well do more harm than good if they don't make other changes with it. To add it and not add a new season of its own would not hurt really. It will put more deer in the harvest book and no doubt it will add a pile of bucks to the grand total along with many big ones. Ny shows we have some great deer now in certain parts of the state. Now add some changes and many other parts of the state would see the same!
  16. I myself think chasing these things around for 3 plus months is a bit much. I love the woods as much as the next guy but that is way to long to be chasing an animal that we are supposed to be caring for and managing. Keep bow the same, a couple weeks of muzzle then rifle for a couple and over. No need for any late seasons.
  17. No Doubt Biz. If there are that kind of animals there and you can get to them a bow and winter league would have you in fine form for fall.....
  18. Thats some prime vittles right there. I am down to about 20lbs of fillets myself so hard water needs to get here soon!
  19. Did you still want an Oct 1st start date? So we would be running these thing for a few months straight or did i miss a post?
  20. Yeah we all know where the safety zone is on the park and it's been there for the 20 years I have been hunting there. Pretty simple. You put the same bucks up post after post which are not record bucks and by the looks of the pics shot in the 80's. but regardless of all that crap. You say you gave up bow hunting and have a problem with the seasons because it's easy? Let's give you the Benifit of saying you killed 2 better deer? Out of how many years of hunting? Let me guess. Your first two years of bow and you stacked up two and gave it up?? Yes if you are talking killing baby deer that my 15 year old kid could kill then your right it's pretty simple. Start hunting a real mature deer and let's see how simple. You will only find 3 bucks on this site that were ever put up over the years I have been here and every one a Ny state book buck. That's how simple it is to bow hunt real trophy Ny bucks! It goes back to each their own but to listen to you blab on about this guy and this season and that snowmobile and on and on is a joke!
  21. Are you saying chase these things from Oct 1st and stop in First week of Jan?? I sure hope I missed something along the way here?
  22. Would those be the same pics you just put up on here awhile back on another thread? 130's were not seen? As far as the park goes anyone who hunts there knows where the hunters in numbers will be and thats off the easy trails and next to the road. Just like most any other hunting land would be. Your apple statement and building tell anyone that hunts there your true credibility. You have ran the gauntlet here on this thread by bad mouthing everything from city hunters to people that enjoy their sled's. Please put those pic's of all those 130's you took with the bow before you gave it up because it was to simple!
  23. Maybe. Blood on fingers on the other hand and my be resting on the truck? I would say out of state Buck if I were to guess but. Who really knows????
