  1. No hunting for me today. But I did get a cabin booked in Ohio for late muzzy season. Found a place that borders the state land we wanted to hunt, plus the cabin sits on 8 acres that has 4 stands already up that the owner said we are welcome to use if we'd like to stay close to camp! Can't wait for January to get here!
  2. I found one thing I absolutely love about this gun compared to all other guns I've carried afield. The short barrel is awesome for walking through the thick stuff. When hanging over my shoulder on the sling I can duck under branches and the barrel doesn't hit. It hangs low enough to stay behind me and not get hung up on stuff. Very awesome for walking around!
  3. Yes you can use pretty much any primer for pellets. But I'd use hot primers at all times just to be sure. Better to have hot reliable primers than weak ones. If you stick with Remington or CCI's you should never have a problem. Federal and Winchester primers are the two I stay away from these days
  4. Your going to pay the hazmat fee pretty much anywhere you order from. Only way around it is to find it locally. Which can be challenging in some areas. If you have a couple buddies that want to try it, you can order a 4 pack from cabelas or wherever and the hazmat fee is the same regardless of amount. Can split the cost between a few people and it's not so bad. That's what I'm doing next time I need some
  5. Ya I'm using some Remington shot shell 209s. Never had a problem with them with bh209. Definitely stay away from the regular/weaker ML primers. CCI magnums are good too. I had bad luck with federal primers using BH209. Always had the best reliability with the Remington primers though, CCI was a close second.
  6. Yep. This is the only type of scope cover I've ever used and all I care for. Protects the scope from the elements and damage while looking pretty good in the process. I usually pull the cover up a bit on each end so that the elastic is kinda over top the objective so I can very easily just pinch the material and give it a slight tug and it will slide up and over the glass and will just sit on top of the scope tube. It does add a step before being able to look through and shoot but it's a step that doesn't require you to pay close attention to what your grabbing at. With the pop up covers you have to look and make sure your hitting the button. With a cover like this you can just quick reach down and pull. I've never thought it was a hinderance in all the years I've used them. I think just the protection it provides from brush and other things hitting the scope is the best reason of all to use one.
  7. Got my new scope cover in today. Just need to secure it around the middle so I can pull up both ends when I need to use it while keeping the rest of the cover still wrapped around it.
  8. I've been using the regular breech plug with the Bh209 and it's fired every time so far. I think as long as you keep the breech plug clean it will be alright. But I did order the other breech plug last week so I won't have to worry about it. It should be here by Friday hopefully. I'll let you know if there's any difference in accuracy or anything between the two plugs.
  9. I don't notice any plastic fouling from the sabots. Especially when using bh209 it stays clean in there.
  10. Never could get them to group well from my old mans encore. Also have seen a lot of reports of them busting apart instead of mushrooming. Leading to poor penetration and wounded deer, or very poor blood trails. Seems like it's the lighter grain powerbelts that have this problem and supposedly the 300 grain ones are better.
  11. I have been getting awesome accuracy from the TC shockwave 250g sabots. Using 95g by volume blackhorn 209. This is from my CVA wolf Around 1.5 inch grouping at 100 yards without a very good rest. If shooting off a bench I know I could easily tighten them up to a inch or less
  12. Well I saw nothing yesterday morning. Don't know where all my deer have gone! Working 2nd shift this week so afternoon hunts are out. Took this morning off as it was pouring rain when I woke up at 515. Decided to sleep in and hang out with my boys for the day. I think I have this weekend off....finally!!! My last weekend off was back in October. Thinking about heading out to Oneonta to hunt some state land that borders the old camp my dumbass father sold off last year. Might stop and see our old neighbor and see if I can still hunt his property. Pretty sure he won't mind but there's plenty of state land around. Hoping my buddy will come with me, if not this might be a solo trip. It's a getting back to my roots trip...I grew up hunting those woods out there and something about that area just calls my name every year
  13. Didn't see a thing this morning. Which is really weird for this field. I think that's the first time I've never seen at least one deer in this field in a morning. After getting out we went and cut down our Xmas tree. Got that all setup in the house for the wife and kids to decorate while I hunt this afternoon. Wife also talked me in to a trip down to lowes for trim to finish off the new French doors I put in a few weeks ago. And then ended up buying 12 led recessed lights to replace the cfl ones in our kitchen. And then she talked me in to doing all the lights before I came out to hunt. Good thing they are easy and quick to install. Hope to see at least something come by tonight. Should be getting to that magic time any moment now.
  14. I'd get ya pics of the basement but I don't have a death wish today. This is the creepy attic room behind where I sit. The most F'ed up part about this.....I shut that little door the other day....
  15. Up in my haunted house. The creepiness of walking inside and up the stairs sure isn't going away the more I do this haha. Hope to see a decent buck cruise through the field. Or at least a nice big doe. I need some more meat for the freezer! Good luck today everyone!
  16. I'm here[emoji1309]! The Gifford road poltergeist hasn't murdered me yet lol. I didn't make it to my haunted house today. Got out of work late and I slept right through my 2pm alarm for the afternoon hunt. But I will hopefully be out of work tmw morning early and have all day to hunt. Good luck all!
  17. On my way home from work and almost hit two does before even getting out of Delmar that were being chased by bucks. The one was a nice looking 8 or 10. Was hard to see while driving. Seen quite a few deer in the fields as well. They must be on the move today!
  18. Kinda like this? Would kinda more go along with guys shooting before legal light. But same idea
  19. I will never understand accidents like these. I just can't fathom not being sure of your target. I have to analyze the hell out of everything I intend to shoot. I have really good eye sight but even at 100 yards I'm pulling up binos or a scope if I can to check out what I'm about to fire upon. I've had friends, family and even trespassers walk through the woods to me and never once did I think it could be a deer for more than .3 seconds. How anyone can teach someone firearm and hunting safety without beating it into their heads not to shoot unless your sure is beyond me. I know my boys will be taught the way I was, and if I ever see them do anything stupid I'll whip their asses and revoke gun privileges.
  20. Sitting here watching the field and my mind is wandering. I bet my two long lead cords will reach from my garage to this place. Electric heater anyone? O man the possibilities....
  21. I got out of the haunted house around 10. Walked to the other end of the field and pulled a card from a cam. Walked back to the house and had some lunch and looked at the pics from the card. Lots of deer moving in and out of the field but most of the movement is at night. There's one decent 8 point that's been coming in to the field almost every day right around dark. Even though he's not what I would call a shooter....I'm getting really itchy.....struck out on bow tag, I can't let my gun tag go to waste. Really need to add some meat to the freezer as well. Might have to let the muzzy bark tonight if he steps out....
  22. Well I went into the creepy locked room. There's another even creepier crawl space or something in the back corner that I heard some noises coming from. Freaked me out so I got the F out of there! I can only imagine what I'd hear in the basement...[emoji15]
  23. Haha! That pool better be deep to get me to stay the night! Lmao!
  24. Hahaha. I hope not. I locked the basement door just to be safe! Lol. There is a very small triangle shaped door on the other end of this garage attic that goes into the 2nd story of the main house above the living room and kitchen. But it doesn't span the whole house. Maybe 20 ft long. It's like a separate room you can only get to from this garage attic. And there's a old massive dead bolt locking mech on the little door. Like someone was locking something or someone away up there. The lock and hinges all seem like overkill if you were just simply locking some non living items up....ooo the stories these walls could tell....
  25. Up in my haunted house blind this morning. Even spookier getting in here in the dark haha. I've got all day to hunt. Don't have to be in to work until 7. I hope I can put a nice buck down today. I'm at least nice and recharged this morning. I passed out on the couch last night at 6. Must of crawled into bed at some point cause I woke up there at 5:03 am ready to hunt. After being awake for 42 hours that sleep felt awesome. Was up early enough to take a drive to town for a coffee and cigar. Now I'm nestled in my haunted house ready to roll. Just had a doe walk in front of me 20 yards out. Not a clue in the world I'm up here.
