Blood was great for 150 yards. Then started thinning out. I zig zagged all through the thick stuff trying to find her but no luck. If she made it past there she must of crossed the road down into property I don't have permission on....and the guy who owns it isn't exactly friendly. I can't confirm with a blood trail that she made it that far so I'm not asking the guy permission to search around for a doe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well I looked for my doe from last night. I can't find her. Followed the blood trail into the thick nasty stuff and have been pulling thorns from my body for the last hour. Lost the blood in the thick stuff. I backed out and circled to the other side to see if I could pick up the trail again. No luck. I hate losing deer. First time this has happened in years. Well I haven't found my doe yet. I'm a bit surprised. I heard her crash about 40-50 yards away. I know it was a bit windy but the thick crap she crashed into, I should of been able to hear her continue on. Anyways. I tracked her a good 150 yards. Tons and tons of blood. She should of bled out no farther than where I stopped. I backed out after initial shot to grab my wheeler and step son to help me. We stopped when it got way too dark and momma was blowing my phone up saying dinner was ready. The blood trail was also headed into the thickest stuff on the property. It's a mixture of thorns and vines and other ungodly thick vegetation. I couldn't drag a 9 year old through there in the dark let alone get myself in there without getting tangled. So we decided to head home for dinner. Which was oven roasted back strap from last weekends doe[emoji16]. Temps should be down in the low 40s high 30s. She is gonna have to hold over night. Hate doing it. But it happens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Trimmed up a new stand and made a spur of the moment decision to move a stand. The stand I moved was on a edge of a dried up swampy area. Decent movement around it, but it's close to my neighbors house. Decided to move it farther back into the swamp. I think it will be a good spot. A lot of trails and sign. Looks like the bear has been in there tearing up a dead tree too. I'm gonna hunt it this afternoon and see what happens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Been in the stand since 550. Not the best wind in the world for this stand but they can come from any direction here so I guess it doesn't matter to much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

One of the only sectors of business that you'll ever face cut backs or lay offs! Our mill has been here I think 70 years now and never once had a lay off. We have numerous job bids open that we can't even fill. I call bologna when people say there's no good jobs out there...they just aren't looking hard enough or they don't want to actually work. That's cool. I'm sure you got plenty of our stuff rolling through on the daily. I'm pretty sure we are the 5th largest mill in the country, so I'm sure our stuff is sent all over. I used to actually drive the pneumatic bulk tanker trucks that deliver the stuff but ended up getting into the mill. A lot more money and better schedule. It's a small world these days isn't it? What type do you buy? Regardless I'm sure everyone on this board eats the products made with our flour. Almost any type of food product requiring flour made in the NE has a very high probability of coming from here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree with law. It will take you a few years to get a handle on what's going on there. Cameras will be your best friend. Buy a lot of them and run them year round. Good for keeping a eye on the land while your not around. Is your property all woods, or does it have some open field type areas? There's a lot of things you can do to a property to make it more attractive to deer. Google articles on land management for white tails. You'll find lots of good info that will really improve your success. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My uncle used some sort of grunt tube that hooked onto the bottom of his jacket on the inside but it stuck out the tail about 2 inches, with rubber hose connected to it that ran up the inside of his jacket and pinned to the collar. I always thought it was the coolest thing ever. He was using this back in the early and mid 90s when I was a kid. I can't remember the brand or if it was home made. But this thread has reminded me of it and now I must switch over to google and find me one! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well I sit here at work mapping out my game plan for tomorrow. Looking like I can shut these Mills down around 3-4am and be out of here in plenty of time for the morning hunt. This is good as I'm technically on a 12hr shift which gets done at 7am but we've been cranking out the flour and should be done early. Doesn't always happen like this! Will probably sit on the edge of my big field for the morning then take lunch and head across the street to finish trimming up my newest stand and check the camera I put over there. Will most likely hunt that stand in the afternoon as well. Need to see if I have any active scrape juice left and get my dripper out too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hang mine as long as I possibly can when the weather allows it. But when it's warm I butcher and age the meat in the fridge for 5-7 days. Always seems to work great for me. Doe I shot last Sunday morning I butchered right away due to temps getting into the low 60s that day. Put all the meat in the fridge to age and will be trimming it up an it and getting it into the freezer tomorrow or Monday. Everything except back straps will be ground up but I still like to age the meat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I usually lean my bow against my pack. Long stabilizer helps hold it up too. Something like this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I got me one! He's a little young. But he sure is a cute little buck. Jumped out in the ground blind behind the house with the little guy for a bit. I doubt we will be here long and I'm sure all the noise coming from this blind will keep everything at bay but little guy is happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's half the reason we go to camp isn't it? Lol. I don't drink much at home, a beer or two now and then but I'll knock them down when we get up to camp. Away from the wife and kids and work...gotta let loose and unwind sometimes. Everyone needs those nights at camp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depends on how long I'm sitting for. But I always at least bring some water. Last weekend the kids went apple picking so I've been packing in a apple with me. Halloween candy tags along with me once that stuff is in the house. But I'm always a big fan of simple crackers with peanut butter. Just need a little something to regain focus on a long sit. All day sits and hikes I'll pack a sandwich or two. Especially on cold days. Nothing better on those long cold gun season hikes than stopping for lunch and making a small fire to warm up by while you enjoy a sandwich and make plans on where to go next with your huntin buddy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My weather app tells me first light is at 6:32 Am. If I could make it out in the woods tomorrow morning I'd be all settled in and quiet by 545. I usually try and time it so that I have at least 45 mins of quiet time in the stand before first light. I like that time, nice and peaceful and gives the woods time to settle down if I made too much noise getting in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The things I've over heard guys saying in stores like that is funny and even scary at times. Some people really have no business hunting if they can't take the time to become at least averagely proficient with everything that is hunting. I'll admit sometimes I can't keep my mouth shut and have to offer advice or warn them if I think it's gonna get someone killed. Trail camera section is where I open my mouth the most. A lot of guys do zero research before buying and just go by what the boxes say. So I'm usually tempted to offer some free advice as someone who's tried a crap ton of brands and models. I kinda see it as my good deed for the day helping out these poor saps. Helps keep my karma in the positive lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cold weather Coats

Cabelas brand of wool products are awesome. Keeps me warm and their wind shear tech keeps the wind off ya. Not crazy expensive for wool either. I'll be buying another set next year for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
2nd day in a row of no hunting for me. Work is killing me. Hopefully can get out tmw afternoon but I have to be back to work early so it might not happen. This warm weather doesn't make me too motivated to get out there either. Thinking I might just wait until Sunday when I have the day off to get out there. Give the woods a little rest for a couple days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree, the double steps are awesome. I have a few sets of them. So much easier to hang stands with being able to put both feet on steps. They are the pretty much all I buy now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
