Haha you ain't kiddin. It's deff a bit creepy sitting up in the garage attic lol. There's tons of stuff all over in the house and garage. It's like the people just up and left decades ago. They must of been into hunting though and I have a pretty strong feeling that they sat in that garage attic right where I am. There's old hunting hats and even a box of old hunting magazines up there! But the deer know this place has sat abandoned for decades and they walk all around it and in between the house and barn. I have a stand on the other end of the field and I've watched them while on stand walking around the house. Seemed like a no brainer to use it to my advantage -
Didn't make it out of work early enough to get out first thing. Had some stuff to do but I'm out now for about 2.5 hours before my in laws get here. I'm breaking in my newest blind. The abandon house next door has a big attached garage with a door on the one end on the second story facing my big field. Now that I have a weapon with a scope capable of reaching across the field I'm gonna try sitting up here as I watch the deer walk all around this run down house and few half standing barns. Should be a perfect "natural" blind!

Well my new CVA wolf is dialed in at 100. Took about 5 rounds at 50 to get me around 1.5-2 inches high. Backed out to 100 and it's dead on. Shot 3 rounds at 100 getting under 2 inch grouping. I know I could stack these bullets on top of each other with a better rest setup. Was kneeling and leaned over the rear rack of my quad. Not ideal as I couldn't get as steady as I wanted but I'm happy with under 2 inch groups at 100. First shot at 100 above. Forgot to take a pic of my grouping Shooting 95 grains by volume of black horn 209 with a 250 grain TC shockwave sabot. The Vortex scope has impressed the hell out of me too. Anyone who's looking for a new scope should check out the Vortex line. Great scopes with awesome warranty! Now that I got my gun dialed in, I can focus on hunting again. A few weeks left to put a buck on the ground. My last chance will be the Ohio late muzzy season trip. Hoping to tag out in both states! Good luck to everyone out there today!!

I'm 99.9% sure a tine can be counted if it's 1 inch or more. So anything over a inch and it counts. At least that's what I've been told and I'm pretty sure I read in a regulations book at some point. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Glad to hear the cvas are working good for you. I hope mine provides years of reliable service. I hemmed and hawed for a few days over the scope. But I kept coming back to the memory of doing this the last time I bought a gun with a scope package. And I kicked myself in the ass back then. So I figured I'd better just pony up for a better scope. I'm sure 99.9% of the konus scopes are great. But I'm THAT guy who always gets screwed with the .01%. If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Nice! Mine came with the Konus scope but I just don't trust scope packages anymore after previous bad experiences. So I didn't even bother messing around and bought the Vortex separate to put on there. Hard to tell how good the glass is inside my buddies house where I mounted it but it looks nice. First Vortex product I've tried. Hoping it surprises me as I'm usually a Leupold only guy. My only dilemma now is going to be finding out if the regular breech plug will fire the blackhorn 209 powder. I'm going to order the special bh209 breech plug but it's gonna be a couple days until it gets here. I'm impatient and want to shoot tomorrow haha. I could just go with regular pellets but I already have a bottle of blackhorn from last January when I took my old mans TC encore to Ohio. So I'd kinda like to just stick with it and use the powder I have on hand.

Congrats to everyone with deer down! Didn't make it out today. Did make it to dicks to pick up a ML though. Stainless CVA wolf topped with a Vortex 4-12x44. Hoping to get some time tomorrow to get it sighted in so I can finish out Ny seasons here with it and then take it to Ohio in January for late ML season Anyone possibly know where I could pick up a black horn 209 breech plug for this thing locally? Albany area

Went out for a couple hours this morning. It was in the low 20s with mid to high 20 mph winds. Bitterly cold for sure. Saw a doe and my resident button buck. Other than that it was dead out there. Stayed in and caught up on a little sleep this afternoon. Not sure if I'll hunt the morning tomorrow. Depends on what time I get out of work. If I get out at 7 I'm going to head up to dicks when they open and pick up a new muzzleloader. I just ordered a vortex scope, sling, and gun case online to pick up tomorrow when I get my gun. Gonna go with the CVA wolf in stainless. They only have the scope package model but I don't trust cheap package deal scopes so that's why I ordered the Vortex. Will just have them slap it on there for me when I go. Decided on a new smoke pole since me and my buddies are planning another late season Ohio muzzy hunt in January. We went last year and had a blast. It's a cheap trip and there are some big bucks in Ohio. Can't wait to get some range time with the CVA

Saw a few does and a spike this morning. Got out of the blind around 9 and still hunted with my buddy for a couple hours. We bumped a doe but that was it. Caught a few buck tracks but they weren't fresh enough to bother pursuing. Decided to get a few hours sleep and forgo the afternoon hunt. Back to work at 5 for the 7th day of 12 hour shifts. Except I think this is gonna be a 14 hr shift as the guy coming back from vacation in the morning probably doesn't know he should be in at 5am instead of 7. Gonna have to send him a text. Been a long week getting 3 hours of sleep a day. I hope I get a crack at a buck soon cause I'm wearing myself down this huntin season. Congrats to everyone who put one down today! Boy I sure do love these pop up ground blinds for days like today. Nice and warm in here. 30 and 20 something mph winds. About 2-3 inches and still coming down....sideways. My buddy is up here hunting my place today and he chose to hike back in to a ladder stand in a big pine on the edge of the swamp. He's gonna freeze lol. We're gonna for a walk around 830. He will push the swamp towards me and i towards him till we meet in the middle. Love gun season with some snow! Good luck to everyone today!

I've had to finish off a few deer with my knife. Doing it to does isn't a big deal. But doing it to bucks is a whole other ball game. Those tines are like daggers. So your pretty much in a knife fight with him. Had one in Kansas once I had to put down even after the guy shot him 4 freakin times with the bow! That poor buck looked like a pin cushion! Finally I had enough of watching this buck get shot and jumped on his back and grabbed his tines so they wouldn't stab me. Luckily he had lost most of his energy by then and only gave me one good lunge but I was able to pin him down and get his throat slit.

Congrats to everyone with deer down!! Warm and windy here in 4H. Sky is clear over to the catskill mtns for now. But this wind is getting to be a bit much for the stand I'm in. If it gets much worse I'll be getting down and sitting in the ground blind that's pretty much underneath me. There was a doe about 30 yards out in the field when I walked up to the base of my tree. With the high winds I was actually able to slowly climb up the ladder sticks and get in without being noticed. She has since wandered off. Hoping this front moving in gets them up and moving. There must of been 100 shots I've heard already. Most of them a good ways off but holy hell its a war zone. First shot was at 614!! I could hardly see a damn thing. I've had 4 does come by. No buck yet

Whatever gun holds and depending on where I'm going I might have some in the pack. Hunting at camp or behind the house just whatever the gun will hold. Long hikes into the mountains I'll bring 5 or 6 extra. More for survival in emergency situations than for animals. Ya never know what you might need extra rounds for but they don't weigh that much so they tag along.

Miss my A bolt. Picky about ammo but damn she was a shooter I'll be out tmw with my trusty benelli supernova 12 gauge with some cheapo Remington 2 3/4 sluggers. Won't be shooting too far so it should be alright. Might pick up a new rifle next week but benelli will do for now.

Just read a article on Fox News about the Trump effect in CEOs after winning. The list of companies who are kissing his ass right now is impressive. Article also said the US dollar has his a 13 year high as the stock market continues to rise. Damn guy is 2 months away from getting in office and has done more good for the economy than Obama did in 8 years. I like where this is going!

Where my big bucks!? The 7 point and spike both came back. Now there's 3 does. Spike chased biggest doe off. Can't get out of the stand with deer all over me. Something big seriously needs to show up anytime now. Need to sleep like asap. Work again in 6 hours.

Just rattled in a nice little 7 point. Maybe 105-110 incher. Needs a couple more years. Let him go. Waited 10 mins after he went by and hit the rattle bag hard again. Waiting to see if anything else comes by to check it out Texting my buddy who's in his stand in 4J. He's telling me to shoot everything I tell him that walks by lol. He thinks I'm nuts for letting that 7 point go by on the last day. My trigger finger is getting awfully itchy....

I haven't paid the closest attention the last week but from what I've seen there's an awful lot of important people that only a few months ago bashed him, now eager to set up meetings with him. Ford now keeping a factory here and apple wanting US factories. If this is a example of how quick positive things can move under trumps administration, I think we are gonna have a awesome 4 years. Feels pretty damn good to be an American again.

Got in late around 615. So far 2 does a button, spike and 5 mins ago a nice 8 or 9 pointer. He wasn't huge but he was decent enough for last day. Couldn't get a shot. He stayed in the thick stuff 40 yards out. I grunted and bleated and he could care less!! He was sniffing the air like he was trailing a doe. He was up wind of me so I know he wasn't smelling me. I hope he doubles back. Or have another bigger one come by lol. Good luck everyone.
