If you were in the area I'd say come on down! There's no shortage of work or good pay. Guys who do nothing but sweep the floors all day here make a few pennies under $18 a hour. For those with more ambition it's no problem to clear 70-80k a year. Good luck this season to you as well!

Thanks grampy. I hope this is the last fall that I get shafted with covering so many hours. We let a guy go back in late summer so we've been short handed ever since. Some how we can't find a single person in the capital district that can do the job of a miller to replace the guy we let go. It's not a easy job in the least, but it's not impossible. Anyone with at least average intelligence can do this after a few months of training. It's the work ethic that all of our possible candidates have lacked. We've brought in about 5 people the last couple months to see if they could do it and not a single one wanted to work. When the hell did "work" become sitting in a break room or locker room on a cell phone all day? That's the mentality these guys bring in the door. We even have "assistant millers" or wheat runners as we usually call them, who are supposed to help us when we need it and pretty much do anything we ask of them. 3 of the 4 can't get off FB long enough to look where they are walking. They are also supposed to have a pretty solid understanding of how the mills operate and function so they can take over in emergencies if needed....but our guys can't even handle their own equipment let alone my 8800 pieces of equipment. Not sure why they even keep them classified as "assistant millers". More like chair warmers they are. Sorry to get off topic....needed to rant there for a min.... Good luck tomorrow and this weekend to everyone! Let's see some bone on the ground!!!

Back at work. These 12 hour shifts are getting old. Supposed to have this weekend off. Well now the guy covering me said he doesn't wanna work. Fantastic. And then on top of that I get told we have to run the mills Sunday night too. So now I'm gonna be awake for about 3 days straight. Great... After getting out of the stand this morning I moved my ground blind over to the big field. Will be my spot to get out of the weather and take my son out for a few hours. Should of had this setup here weeks ago but I kept forgetting or didn't have time. Hopefully it's brushed in good enough. Ran out of time. Needed to get at least 3 hours of sleep before going back to work.

That's alright. I'll take a bent frame over possible life endangering stuff. We pay insurance for a reason! It's only a bunch of metal and they make new ones every day! [emoji16]

Congrats grow! Can ya toss some of that good luck over here? I'm getting worn out. I think I've hunted all but 5 days this season. I can't say I haven't tried. But it's looking like I'll be eating tag soup with my bow tag. This will be 2 years in a row. Not cool. O well. Gun season might shake some bucks loose around me and let me get a shot off. Had 3 does come by at 20 yards early. I could hardly see them. They are currently standing next to my chicken coop stealing corn and wheat from my chickens. Wife and kids are watching them out the window. Had a button buck come stand in front of me in the field for 30 mins then he left. Now it's just me, the wind, 500 squirrels and 600000 blue jays

She's a beast! 8 of them were in pike or Calhoun county Illinois and one in otsego county ny and one in Albany county ny. I will admit that all but 4 of them could have been avoided. But when you have a bumper like that, where's the fun in swerving? I've also taken out a guard rail at the emergecare place the one time my infant son was choking on vitamin b liquid drops. He was hardly breathing and I was hauling ass to get him there before he stopped breathing all together. I jumped a curb and drove across the landscape beds and plowed right into a guard rail next to the building before ripping it into park and sprinting my son into the doctors who were waiting. That bumper does a amazing job when I need it too

That's the first thing that crossed my mind the other day when I could pull the big 8 away from the 2 does. Grunts, snort wheeze even a couple bleats. He didn't step one damn foot off those does rear ends. I sat there after he left thinking he was acting like he's in lockdown
-
I've taken a few off the road over the years. From watching someone in front of me nail one to hitting them with my own truck. As long as it's fresh, like done right in front of my eyes or a buddy says he hit one 10 mins ago. My truck has a big full replacement aftermarket bumper/grille guard that is a total deer slayer. I've hit 10 deer with that thing and barely a scratch. I've cut up 4 or 5 of those deer and they taste no different than ones shot with my bowtech

Thank god for that electoral college. Your cities didn't turn out like you hoped because you didn't have a black man promising free shit to them. If the DNC really thought the minorities were going to rush the polls for a privileged, self centered, old white woman they were obviously asleep at the wheel. I called the outcome of this election months ago on the sole reasoning of her not being able to pull the blacks out of their ghettos without promising them a better free ride. Anyone with a brain knows you can't cut half of your voter base out and expect to win. There's no idiot wing here. This is just the silent majority who was tired of putting up with watching our country get flushed down the shitter. You and your buddies are more concerned about allowing perverts in girls bathrooms than protecting our countries interests. Our side spent the last decade being lazy about voicing our opinion and getting out to vote our way to a better future. Obviously that behavior is over with. You think this election was rough? Wait until the next one....you better hurry and find your "safe space" now, cause I hear they are running out. If Trump pulls off some extremely positive things for our country in the next 4 years...you libs better kiss your hopes and dreams good bye, as I doubt you'll ever be able to convince anyone else to drink your cool aid again.

weather for Sunday of the southern opener is looking good
Adkhunter1590 replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
Yep so the weather forecast has officially made up my mind on getting my ground blind moved out into my big field. I wish I had a small platform for it to give me a little better view. Might have to see if I can whip something up quick.... -
Up and at it again. Verrrryyyy quiet in here. Smelled a rutting buck on my walk in. Probably should of sat the stand closest to where it stank. But I'm hell bent on shooting one from this swamp stand! Might go to field and stream after I get out of the woods and pick up a new rifle. Shot my shotgun yesterday with slugs and the accuracy was terrible. Open sights with a smooth bore, so I knew it wouldn't be crazy accurate but it's still not gonna work for me. Wouldn't mind putting a scope on my benelli and getting a rifled barrel for it but the price of the barrel is almost as much as I paid for the gun! I haven't rifled hunted in a long time so I don't even have one anymore. Thinking of getting the Remington 783. Cheap and good enough for someone who's not doing much other than hunting deer under 250 yards. Any good word on these? Or does anyone have a nice rifle for sale in 308 or 06? Lol

Walk in was cool. Moon light was so bright. Felt like I was walking in at high noon. Been in the stand for about 30 mins now. Wind is fairly calm and I hope it stays that way. Comeeeee ooonnnnn big boys where you at!!??
-
Which public lands you going to rob? If you haven't tried PR yet, I would deff give that a try. A buddy of mine has been hunting PR off and on all bow season and has had shots at some decent small bucks and a lot of does. So if your looking to get your gf something you should take a walk around there one day once gun opens. Might run into me one of them days! Lol.

Back in for the afternoon. Small spike ran 5 does around me this morning early on and that was it. Got out around 930. Came back in around 1245 and decided to rotate my stand around the tree 90degrees. Was facing north now I'm facing east. Doing so has opened up a better shooting lane to where the big 8 skirted by me yesterday morning. Let's see him try that again! I should of had my stand facing this way from the beginning. Haven't seen anything since I got settled in. Hopefully they get to moving soon
-
Ya I think I'll be buying the biggest platform hang ons I can get from now on. The one I was in this morning is decent sized but real light weigh which is good to long hauls. So I may have to retire that one to the garage to be used on random quick setups on different properties. Other than not being able to see them coming, a ground blind would have done the trick this morning.
-
You should of seen my attention to detail this morning when I was attempting to use my bow riser while at full draw to push/swing my bow hanger out of my way haha. I had every clearance issue there could be this morning. Dang buck was behind me and I was determined to try and wrap myself around that tree to get a shot. If it wasn't for some branches about 25 yards out he would of been toast. I still can't believe I was able to move my bow hanger and pack while at full draw and not spook him or the two does. Depending on how tomorrow morning goes I may be taking that stand down and moving it over about 40-50 yards to get a better shot at where they seem to keep moving through. Will see how ambitious I feel
-
Well I was hoping that would happen but no luck. He was trailing two does and had no intention on leaving them. I tried a few grunts and even hit the bleat can but couldn't get him to change course. Was only 30 yards out but he skirted my two shooting lanes in that direction by mere inches. I possibly could of had him early on when I first saw him but I wasn't ready that quick and it would of been a difficult if not impossible shot anyways. Just got back to the house. Gotta sleep for a few hours and be back to work at 5. Tomorrow I'm off so I'll have the whole day to sit I could of dropped on top of the 3 pointers back and rode him around this morning
-
Little spike came in as I was pulling my bow up. Not 5 mins after he went by a 3 pointer came by. Then 20 mins after that 2 does and a big 8 came by! He's got to be all of 130. Maybe more. I drew on him 3 times. Couldn't get a clear shot!! Uggghhhhh. What a freakin bummer!! Now I'm sitting here freezing and ticked off lol
-
This is my internal debate on a daily basis. I can either hunt real close to the house or walk back to the farthest stand on the property line. I walk all the way to the back and see nothing and my wife is texting me saying there's 4 does in the yard which is about 70 yards from my closest stand. I just start walking out there now and decide where I'm gonna go while I'm walking. Which usually means, how far do I have the energy to walk right now lol

The Real Outrage
Adkhunter1590 replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There's a big difference in flapping your gums in frustration of a bad possible future outcome vs actually going out and causing all chaos. Your like minded Hillary supporters are not protesting. They are full blown criminal riots. At this point those people have demoted themselves to being a waste of space in this country. I sincerely hope they are all rounded up and arrested and charged with domestic terrorism. Only one could really hope that they resist arrest just enough to warrant legal lethal action. The people who voted trump in are the same people who accepted Obama winning not once, but twice! There were no protests, riots or days off from school or work to "mourn". We sucked it up and moved on and hoped someday we would be delivered a candidate who could secure us a victory. If the democrats were doing such a great job, the massive voter turnout to change our country's course wouldn't of happened. So keep up your complaining and crying. That's exactly what we want! The longer you continue to stomp your feet the better we look! [emoji1303] -
You do realize you and your liberal protesting buddies sound like nothing more than a bunch of 4year olds throwing a temper tantrum right? He is your president whether you choose to mentally accept that or not. When will you finally grow up and rejoin us in the real world as we know it and move on like normal adults? I hope you can grasp the concept that this type of behavior is EXACTLY what the rest of the country is completely fed up with. Which is what led us to finally get off our asses and be patriotic Americans and vote our way to a better future. You and the people like you are literally nothing more than a laughing stock. You are sealing your fates with your "protests" and childish behavior. How can any of you say your intelligent people when you literally based your entire opposition of trump on him inciting hate and racism in our country, and turn around and begin the largest hate and racist campaign yet less than 24 hours after the election. When the hell did anyone ever see trump supporters making FB posts and tweets about supporting the killing of Hillary supports and whites? When did trump supporting celebs call for supporters to beat Hillary fans with bats? You people are the problem!! Not only are you and others alike the biggest hypocrites known to man kind, but you really aren't the brightest crayons in the box either. I see reports of Hillary fans wanting to literally start a civil war over this. These are the same people who want to ban guns, need safe spaces and counseling to get over not getting their way. How in the holy hell could they even fathom wanting to start a civil war!!?? Did they forget what "war" means?? Did they also forget that map showing how red the US is these days? I'm not sure who could think that war would last more than about 3 mins.

Man that wind was brutal this afternoon. I didn't make it out in the woods as I had to be to work at 5. But I was outside trying to jump start my wife's SUV before I left for work. Not sure how the battery died. It's only 2 years old with 30k. Shouldn't have a bad battery already. Will investigate that more over the weekend. But my boss did come over and went out and sat in one of my stands for the evening hunt and saw nothing lol. I told him I doubt he would see much today with the crazy high winds. My property is basically a big flat area on top of a hill so we get whipped by the wind hardcore as it comes sailing in over the catskill mountains. My deer seem to move off my place and down into the valley below my house onto the neighbor when the winds get going like that. I'll be in the woods in the morning for a couple hours. 12 hour shift tonight and another one tomorrow starting at 5pm so I'll be in from 530-9. Need to catch a few hours sleep before work. Will be at it all day Sunday though! Good luck this weekend everyone. Should be a good one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well she's practically still a virgin. Only been used a handful of times. On her maiden voyage she was mounted by a pike county Illinois swamp donkey though. He managed to get a hump or two in before my client plugged him with a slug gun. These days she collects dust in the garage but I decided to take her out tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
