Thermacell. Works wonders! I never thought it would work so good but I was dead wrong lol. When I hunt in a ground blind I use it and you can watch them try to fly in and they get barely in the window and shoot right back out. Its amazing. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I can hear them from my house but haven't seen any yet this year. We live up on a mountain on the edge of a cliff and can hear them buzzing down in the valley but that's about it Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

We have dish network. I like it a lot. Doesnt go out to often unless the winds.get real bad and the rain gets real hard. But even then it only goes out for a min or two and comes back on. Seems like as soon as the rain hits hard it will go out then take a min to fix it self and then its fine. Not a big deal. We also can't get cable at our house. My house sits a half mile off the road and TW wants like 9 grand to run the cable to our house. So that was a no go lol. The phone company that has a line to our house but they don't offer any internet. So smart phones is all we have for internet which kinda sucks but the verizon mifi things are way to expensive for only 10gb of data. Verizon did tell us they are working on getting fios or something like that in our area soon. I've seen their crews working now and then so hopefully we can get that at some point. But the dish network has been good on its pricing. I think we pay like 60 something a month. Unless we order movies but the price hasn't changed at all. We did have direct tv but we had a lot of problems with their equipment freezing up and last year they lost a lot of channels that we watch so that was the final straw I called them up and cancelled. They tried getting me with a 328 dollar cancellation fee but I told them to stick it I wasn't paying it. They called one time about it after that and haven't heard a word since. That was aboit a year ago. I had some friends do the same thing and they haven't paid it either. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Cool. Thanks. Havent seen the tv all day. Yard work and doctor appointment for the baby. Glad to see NY is getting a cabelas though. I don't mind ordering some stuff online but clothing or boots I gotta try on first before ordering. This is definitely good news Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I haul fuel tankers and seeing any type of hauler cause a wreck like this really upsets any driver. There's only 2 things that could have happened. Either he high hooked on the kingpin or the 5th wheel jaws were defective and broke..which is VERY uncommon. High hooking is much more common. All that takes is a lazy SOB not taking 1 second to bend over while walking by to make sure the trailer is sitting flush on top of the 5th wheel plate. Hauling fuel tankers that reach 108 thousand pounds is dangerous enough and to make a good living I have to move quick and keep rolling all day long but I never rush a proper pre trip before rolling out the yard. If the investigation proves it was the drivers fault that man should never be allowed to step foot in another motor vehicle regardless of size or type Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah I'm figuring this won't last up to season opener. In August I plan to disc it all under and plant something for fall Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

I haven't had any problems with weeds yet. A few little ones here and there but I just pulled them out by hand. I had to rake a good amount of leaves to get down to soil so I don't think I have a lot of weed seeds hanging around in the dirt. Most of my woods is pretty clear of weeds and underbrush. Just a lot of trees. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

I highly suggest it especially if you have no equipment or can't get any equipment to your spots. Both of my little plots don't get nearly as much sun as they should and are still growing quite well. I have plans to cut back some trees but so far it hasn't been a deal breaker. I mixed 10-10-10 fertilizer with the seed when I spread it also. I don't know if that played a big part in how it's growing but I'm sure it didn't hurt. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

Here's some new pics. Built a little containment fence too. Growing more and more each day. Pretty suprised given the lack of pure sunlight. Gotta work on getting some trees cut back. But so far my little experiment is going well Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -
I think the reason why some of the episodes seem to be all over the place is because its a non-scripted show. They are just living life and cameras are tagging along. If it was scripted there would be a story line and some sense created out of the madness. I personally like the show. They are good people who made a killing on duck calls. The american dream. And they give back to the community and other organizations. Willie even adopted a kid. They are some goof balls for sure but it is WAY better than these other stupid shows out these days. (Like jersey shore and real house wives of whatever stupid county...all the BS my wife trys to make me watch!) As far as I'm concerned I hope the show stays on for a long time. Gives me a good laugh everytime I watch and at least its hunting related sorta lol Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Here's some closer pics I took quick just now This second one is the antler king and whitetail institute mixed. The antler king is the tall grass looking stuff. That was coming up a few days before the WI stuff did. And here's a pic of the circle shaped area that I didn't have a pic of in my original post. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

Ya I'm not saying the lime is what made anything come up so far but I'm sure it didn't hurt any. As for doing a better soil test. Well I just didn't get around to it really. We just finished up building a house and had a baby 2 months ago so I've got my hands full at home and a 70 work week. Trust me I want to do everything right the first time but I just ran out of time ans patience. Wanted to get something on the ground to see if I'd get any sort of results. I'm sure the no plow stuff isn't the best mixture to draw in deer or the best for nutrition but that isn't what I'm after just yet. Working my way there one step at a time. I will be getting a tractor or at leadt some implements for my atv soon so I will be able to till everything up good and plant the best. The pics look like the canopy wouldn't be letting in much sun but there's a lot that gets through. I cut back a bunch of trees. Now that the trees are filling out I've noticed a few more that will have to be taken out. Thanks for your advice though! I Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

Thanks. Ya I think liming helped a lot. Along with spreading it out just before it rained. The rain worked out perfect actually. It woulf come down pretty good then stop and get sunny for awhile then rain some more. Did that all week long. Last night and tonight is going to be down in the mid to high 30s I hope that doesn't stunt the growth any. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

I tried uploading from my phone but idk if if it worked. If not there's 2 links from photbucket. Not the best pics but you csn see some green coming up Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -
Well since I haven't bought any equipment yet and the property I bought is new so I'm gonna have to start from complete scratch having to clear out all the trees and stuff I decided to cut down a few trees and try some throw and grow type stuff just to see if it would even grow at all. I cleared out a circle shaped area about 30 yards in diameter and a old atv trail I cleaned and raked up which is about 40 yards long and about 6 ft wide. Now I know this isn't a huge area or anything that will be a big food source but its just a experiment until I get a tractor and can spend some more time clearing out a big area. I used a bag of whitetail institute no plow. And a little sample bag of antler kings version of no plow. I also spread out 3 50lb bags of lime about a month and a half in advance after using a antler king soil Ph test strip that says my soil PH is about 6.5 (will send out a soil sample to a lab once I get everything cleared for a true test) also spread out 10-10-10 fertilizer along with the seed. I got the seeds down a day before the recent rains came which seems to have worked really good in my favor. I've got growth beginning quite thick although its still all low to the ground but it looks like its coming up good so far. Here's 2 pics I took quick of the trail strip today. Will take some closer pics tomorrow (was in a rush today..wife was rushing me to get going to go see the in laws for mothers day lol) but I'm pretty pumped to see some growth so quickly. Anyone else have any experience with this no plow stuff...good or bad? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I have 2 Reconyx cameras. Have left them out in temps down to -20 and they work perfect like always. I've tried just about every camera company known to man and nothing works as good as reconyx. I know they are expensive but soooo worth it!!! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Your dead on about the place. I guided for them. Success rates are very low and farms are over hunted. Your money is never going towards gas there. They don't pay the guides gas. We have to use our own trucks and pay for the gas to haul heartlands clients around. It was messed up Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Hey all. I am tossing around a idea in my head..well maybe just a dream but bear with me. I am originally from NY but moved out west after high school and became a big game guide. Guided in the back country for elk and sheep and then made my way to Kansas where I began chase after throphy whitetails. After Kansas I went to Illinios. Now I've gotten married to a girl from back home in NY and moved back here to begin a life together and have a newborn and built a new house. Since guiding is not in big need in NY I have had to switch careers and now haul petroleum in bulk tankers. It's a good job and the pay is good but I'm always itching to get back into something in the hunting industry. So now that I've bored everyone with a little background on myself I'll get to my question. I was wondering what everyone thought of starting a small business in making food plots for people who either don't have the time or the money to buy the expensive equipment to produce quality food plots. I've looked into machines like the plot master that appears to make quick work of laying down a nice plot. The cost of a plot master is what turns alot of people away like me if I were to just use it for myself. But if I were to use it to make some plots for other people for some cash then buying one would be a no brainer. Do you guys/gals think there is a market for such a idea/dream of mine? Lol. I guess I would like to think that there's alot of average joes like me out there that can't afford big tractors or atvs and all the implements to set up the food plots we dream of, but paying someone a small chunk of money to cover gas and seed and some labor would be doable for most. I would really like to make a small side business out of doing something like this. It would help cover the cost of a plot master(or similar machine not completely set on it) and eventually bring in a little extra money for the family and would be enjoyable work and I would enjoy helping provide other hunters with awesome food plots that could help them bag a big buck and increase the quality of deer on their land. So let me have it guys...am I crazy or what? Lol

Hey all. Anyone tried the new React bow sight by Throphy Ridge? I looks pretty cool and the smart pin technology has me awfully curious. I haven't found a great number of reviews but it seems that everyone who's tried it has liked it so far. Seems pretty crazy that once you set your 20 and 30 yrd pin that 40,50 and 60 fall right into place without having to mess with it.

Lol ya sorry about the pics of pics. These pics were originally taken with my phone to send to friends because my laptop has no Internet where I live in NY or where I was in IL. Cell phones was alll I could manage lol

Yes the top 3 pics are all of the same buck. Just different angles and distance. Geno. I do not recommend heartland lodge at all. That's actually exactly who I worked for out there lol. They suck. The owner is only in it for the money. They used to be alot better but they have lost alot of their best leased land and put no effort or money into getting new leases or food plots. It's all about how many hunters they can run through there each season. Which is a huge reason why I didn't like working for them. I wanted to work for a outfit that truly cared about the client and didn't treat them like a profit margin. And their best and longest last guide will not be working there anymore (not me lol) for reasons like I've stated. He had a farm with them for many years and had alot of success and alot of the repeat clients all went with him for a reason. But from what he's told me that farm may not be in the picture anymore and it was their best one. So he's gone now. I forgot the name of the new outfit he's working for out there but I can call him and find out. He's the guy you wanna be with in Pike county. I can also talk to a few of my other guide buddies and see who they recommend. On a side note: I personally recommend hunting Kansas over Illinios. Not saying like county isn't good cause it deffinatly is. But I had much better deer success in Kansas. Pike county is know by millions. Therefore it's hunted VERY hard. The hunting pressure is insane out there. Especially with big outfits like Heartland that only give guides X amount of stands and we have to run 2-3 guys a week on them and keep doing it for 2.5 months. You can only move a stand so many times before you run out of good options on a 200-400 acre farm. I've found that Kansas is much less pressured and the hunts seem to be more enjoyable for everyone I guided. That and I see hunts costing MUCH less in Kansas Vs IL. I'm not trying to tell you where to go I just figured I'd offer up my personal experience. Either way I hope you have a good trip and a successful one no matter where you go!
