So let me get this straight. Seeing lots of deer during a sit in the stand like on TV isn't reality? Well let's pull your head out your ass and expand your hunting travels a little farther than your nearest state land. Take a trip to kansas or illinos or Ohio or iowa. Or many other Midwest states where you can see 30 plus deer during a sit. Not all shooters or even bucks. But seeing lots of deer is a reality for many not just TV shows. And no they aren't just high fence places that this exists in. I guide a TV show and they saw tons of deer every day and eventually put down a 160.

I sit here in my blind hiding from the rain with a dip of grizzly right now.

So opening day is over. What happened out there?

Made it out tonight after work. Was in a bit of a hurry on the way in and bumped a doe not 30 yards into the woods. Bummer. But with the rain the ground was soft so sneaking the rest of the way to my stand was quiet and easy at least. And the doe didn't run off to spooked just trotted off. After about 45 mins in the stand I was going crazy because I knew I could hear a deer walking even though it was so damp and the leaves weren't crackling. I thought I had the direction of the deer pinned but sure enough I was wrong. it was a spike walking slowly to my left instead of where I thought in front of me. I watched him go and about 15 mins later I heard more rustling. A couple does were coming in behind me. They messed around about 40 yards out but no shot. Just as the last few mins of light was fading one doe began to walk down the trail towards me but stopped 20 yards out. Of course no shot. She stood there for a a few mins then turned around and walked up the hill away from me. That's the third time I've had deer walk that hillside just out of range or behind brush. I'm gonna try again in the morning but I think I'm gonna move my stand across the creek to the other hill side. -
Sounds like a miss if she was blowing. Try expanding your search farther for your arrow. May have shot over her back and we all know how far a arrow can travel. Most deer won't blow after being hit. They will bound off and stop but I've never seen or heard of them blowing after being hit. If it was a real high hit shot there's a very good chance she will live also. Good luck!

Opening morning was slow. Didnt see anything until I got down out of the stand around 8. Walked about 50 yards and saw a buck with only half a rack about 100 yards down the draw slowly walking away from me. He must have walked down the side of the ridge in the only little area I can't see due to trees. I slowly stalked him for about 200 yards and got within 20 yards. Ground was soft from the morning dew so it was quiet walking and no wind at all. Was cool to stalk up on him so close and I could have arrowed him but it was a young 8 with his right side broken off already. Save him for next year. Afternoon I didn't see anything. Tons of sign and tracks though. My stand is at the bottom of a draw with a swampy area and real thick brush behind me. With a trail that's beat down like a cattle trail crossing the edge of the swamp crossing about 20 yards in front of me. The trail leads up the hill on to my left and crosses a power line into some nasty thick stuff I believe to be the bedding area. A Lot of deer sign all over this place it's going to be hard to hunt it this early in the season. I think the rut will produce a lot more deer sightings as they run between the ridges chasing down the does. -
I have been seeing deer out moving all times of the day. I drive around for work and while out in the country me and the guy I work with have been seeing does and bucks walking about in fields even at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Mornings seem to produce the most movement but I would count the afternoons out either. Especially at higher elevations where it tends to stay cooler in the afternoons. I'm planning on hunting in the woods back off the food sources to catch them on the way back from feeding and hunting closer to the fields in the afternoon as they make their way back out.

I chew grizzly wintergreen all the time when I hunt. I shot my antelope and my last buck and doe with a chew in my mouth and was spitting on the ground the entire time in the stand. I'm sure it smells but I've never had any deer spook from it. Its kinda became a good luck thing for me now lol.

I have a ton of fun stories but I guess the most memorable one was the day I shot my first deer. I was 15 at the time and had been hunting with my bow for almost a week at hunting camp with my dad and uncle. Me and dad always sat close to each other usually no more than 100 yards apart and everything we saw was always out of bow range for me and he wasn't going to let that browning 30-06 rip until I got something. So on our last day after being skunked all week and hammered with snow, rain, wind and crazy temps I begged him to let me use his rifle even though it was technically illegal but screw it it's hunting camp there isn't any game wardens around these parts! Lol. He finally gave in and let me take his browning and he unpacked his mossberg 500 slug gun. My uncle left that morning and he told us to go out by his stand as he had seen a lot of action out that way all week. We decided we would go sit in our stands until after light as my uncles stand is across a nasty creek bottom that's a pain to cross in the daylight let alone dark. So about a hour after sunrise we made our way down the hill crossed the creek and climbed the hill and got up to my uncles stand. My dad told me to climb up into my uncles stand and he would walk out and around to a field about 500 yards away and walk back through the thick area to try and push a buck out to me. So I climbed up in the stand and got all set and waved to my dad as he began to walk off slowly to my right. I started to turn my head to the left and caught movement and sure enough it was 2 does running up the hill towards me. I watched for a second and saw there was a small buck chasing them. My blood started pumping like crazy! I raised that browning up and saw that the does were going to run across in front of me roughly 70 yards away. So I positioned the gun out in front and picked a nice open spot I would shoot the buck looked like it was headed for. Mean while my dad isn't 60 yards away yet still walking slowly. The does crossed through the open spot at full speed as I looked through the scope I saw the second doe pass and saw the buck coming. Held my breath and squeezed the trigger. I looked up and didn't see the buck all I saw was the two does running off. My dad starts yelling "what the hell are ya doing!??? You didn't shoot a damn squirrel did ya!?". I yelled back "No I got a buck!!!!". I was practically falling out of the stand I was so pumped up. I climbed down and my dad walked back over and he said he didn't see anything but two does after I shot. I said I know I think he went right down. He was skeptical on whether or not I was tellin a good story or not lol. We walked over to where I said the buck should be and he's asking me if I was sure it had horns I said yes dad I'm sure. As soon as we got to where I said it would be he stopped and looked at me and said "well shit look at that boy you were right!". (probably the last time I ever heard those words). I had put a double lung shot on a nice little spike with 16 inch long spikes. not a monster but it was my first buck and I couldn't have been happier. My dad actually teared up a bit as he was so proud of my first buck and that I made such a good shot. We dragged that buck down to the creek and gutted him out and tagged him and dragged back to camp was interrupted by our hunting camp tradition of when you shoot a deer you always stop at the halfway point back and crack open a cold beer and drink to the deer gods in thanks for harvesting a great buck and memory. I will never forget that day as long as I live and I can't wait to share a day like that with my son when he grows up. Thanks for reading!

Can you just put in for preference points like western states? I'd like to start doing that. If so does anyone have a link I can go to so I can start? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I just switched to hauling bulk tanks with flour but before I was hauling gas tankers for almost a year. You all would be shocked at how often the wrong thing gets dropped in the wrong tanks. I know soooo many guys thay have even dropped a few hundred gallons of diesel in a unleaded tank and stopped it then switched it to the correct gas compartment. Super and regular get mixed all the time and no one will say a word about that ever unless they are retarded. The gas going in your cars is not nearly as clean as you all think lol. And do yourselves a favor...if you see a tanker unloading at a station and you need gas...keep going! Tons of crap gets stirred up in there when we unload so all that gets sucked into your cars. Sorry about the pics I'm working on it! Lol. Just moved into a new place so I'm working my way to the box with all my hunting stuff in it. Wife has me moving stuff into the house to be unpacked before I can have my garage to myself to get set up with all my stuff. Hoping to get off work early today and finish up in the garage. Thanks for your patience! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Hey all. I'm offering up a Reconyx HC-500 for sale. It works perfect and never let me down. Best camera on the market hands down. I hate to let it go but with a new job and moving and a newborn I just won't be getting around to much scouting this year so I hate to see it sit. I have two of them and Im dying of the thought of getting rid of both but if I got the right offer I will let them both go. They retail for $450 so I'm not sure what to even ask. Both look unused and look brand new still. Haven't had a lot of use either though. Shoot me a offer on one or both and we will go from there. I will get some pics of the cameras tomorrow. Thanks guys Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Looking for a backpack
Adkhunter1590 replied to Hunting3m's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have a badlands super day pack and I love it. Tons of pockets for everything and very comfy to wear all day. I've used it for back country elk and sheep guiding. And the best part is they have a lifetime garuntee. If you ever destroy it (no matter what caused it. Could be your dog chewed it up) they will replace it for free!! The packs are a little pricy but not terrible but very high quality and for the lifetime garuntee I think its worth every penny! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

sitka camo?
Adkhunter1590 replied to dirt_a_KISS's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I believe gor tex bought sitka. And the creator of sitka has opened a new company with a differenr pattern style of camo. Cant remember the name now but some pretty wild looking stuff. I have a few sitka things and I love them. Yes they are VERY pricy. No doubt about that. But the stuff holds up very well and is extremely comfortable and fits very well. All pockets and nick nacks are well placed and serve useful purposes. I got my stuff mostly because I was on their prostaff for a few years and got everything for a major discount or free. But the comfort level is a huge bonus to me. The camo pattern has worked very well for me. The timber series I think they were calling it works well when your high up in the trees especially in shade. I prefer the brown/tan colored stuff when on the ground. And its designed around a animal looking at you on level ground vs thw timber stuff is supposed to hide you at elevation. I recommend the stuff but I realize its out of many peoples price range. And It is for me too if I didn't get the discount. That new zone stuff from.cabelas looks nice and the asat stuff is good too. Under armour also makes reslly good stuff as well. It all comes down to what you wanna spend amd what's most comfortable to you. You can kill a deer in plaid and I still do sometimes. I have a wool set of red and black old school plaid pants and heavy jacket when it gets real cold and nasty out and I want to sit all day that I use. Still works to kill a deer Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

I'm not sure how it is where you live but a plate on a atv means nothing where I am. The plate does not give you the right to ride anywhere. Which is why I don't register or anyone I know for that matter. As far as I know road riding with a atv is illegal anywhere in the state. I'm not sure about certain state lands but around here you can't ride on state lands with a plate either. Someone told me that you can register a atv with a written bill of sale. I'm not sure if this is correct though. Either way I don't ride off my own property or family property so its never been a big deal. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 -

Hey guys. I'm looking to sell my 08 Honda Foreman 500. Its got 880 miles on it and runs great. All the plastics are in good shape and have nothing more than minor/normal small scratches. It has ITP mud tires and ITP wheels as well. Front grill guards has a few dents but nothing major. I bought it from a old man in kansas where I worked as a hunting guide. Used it to transport my clients to and from tree stands and hauling dead deer out of the woods. The only problem I have is I do not have a title or anything for it. Out in kansas they apparently don't issue titles for atvs nor do they even have a way of registering them. I don't register my atvs no matter what state so I've never seen this as a problem but some may or may not but I just want to be up front about it. Blacks topped the list. Asians actually rated lower than whites. The list went blacks at top. Then mexicans then whites then asians. Just saying what cnn said that's all Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

The race war will never end. Wether your racist or not the pure factual numbers don't lie on criminal actions and other things. Cnn had stated a few years back on live tv the percentages of whites, blacks hispanics and orientals of by the the age 25 how many would be dead or in prison. Guess who topped that list and guess who bottomed the list out? The media fuels it very much so. Either way the kid was a punk wanna be gang banger and I feel no remorse for him. You go looking for trouble you better expect to pay the ultimate price. How many honor students get shot? Pretty simple case of ones life choices becoming their demise. Oh well. One less person to cause the state to spend more money on in future court dates and probable incarnation. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
