  1. I wear a Sitka fanatic jacket. Has a built in muff in the jacket. They call it a kangaroo pouch. Jacket is built for bow hunters who don't like to wear thick gloves. So I just wear a thin glove and keep my hands in the pouch. Warm as hell. There's also little pockets inside the pouch for handwarmers as well. Expensive jacket but well worth it!
  2. Me with my antelope I got in wyoming. And the second is a client I had in Illinois 2 years ago with a nice buck I guided him on. Was a cool kill because I used a drag line which he had never used or heard of before and he got to witness it work. Buck came in nose to the ground right in front of the stand.
  3. I've seen it work well in kansas. But we had a bad experience with the people using them. CEOS of dicks sporting goods gander mtn and a few other big name stores and some company reps from NAP and ameristep and others were there hunting for a week. Buck bomb was a new product at the time and they used the hell out of it but when I went to take down the stands they just left the cans laying all over the place. But it was effective during the hunts.
  4. Lmao. I think she's got me trained. That's alright she and the baby are worth it. Hunting is what I love to do but family always comes first. Once they are taken care of its game on!
  5. Well alright I guess if it's free to sign up why not I will do it. I rent a house right now that has electric heat (not happy about that) so any discount off my electric bill would help. What do I need to do now? I don't have my current electric bill on me at work but I can get it tonight when I get off.
  6. I think the ship has sailed on that one. She knows I can do it now lol. Shot myself in the foot with that one
  7. I went to that website and typed in my zipcode to see rates and it says something about a 1% savings? Is that really all I will save? I'm confused.
  8. Damn..i tried all those tricks and I still get diaper and bath and changing clothes duty!! Especially now that my wife is suffering from morning sickness it's even worse! I spent all last weekend doing nothing but taking care of the baby and house chores while she was laid up on the couch puking. The only thing I've managed to do badly enough and get out of completely is laundry...apparently colors and whites don't mix and I wasn't supposed to wash my work clothes with baby clothes or put baby stuff or her stuff in the dryer. whoops. O well win for me! Lol
  9. Well hopefully the pic attached but here's my little guy playing with a she'd I found when hanging a stand back in august
  10. Well I got lucky. My first came back on valentine's day this year. And we just went to the doctor on tuesday and found out we are expecting a second one already! Due date of June 19th. At least neither one will be born during hunting season lol. But damn I wasn't ready for a second one this soon! I think I may need a second job! Lmao.
  11. I agree with call DEC. if they were hanging a stand a couple feet over the border or right on it I'd say flip the stand upside down and put a note on it but since they are pretty far in and baiting DEC is your best bet.
  12. I've seen many times no blood with a gun hit. Its amazing how it can happen but it does. Sometimes I've only found a couple little hairs and not a drop of blood but the deer is found dead. You owe the deer the best search you can offer. Just get out there and start lookin you may end up with a big surprise!
  13. I wasn't seeing anything yesterday afternoon so I decided to get down early and take a little walk. Would take a few steps and stop and watch for 5 mins or so. I made it about 150 yards and saw a flash on the ridge side in front of me. I kneeled down and watched as a small buck (maybe a 4 pointer? Not to sure he was moving to fast and about 100 yards away) chased 5 does all around. He was running hard too. The does wanted nothing to do with him lol. Was entertaining to watch for awhile at least. But it shows that the rut is coming! On another note I'm sitting in my car waiting to see if this "big buck" my father in law keeps telling me about comes out by his house every morning. I don't have a stand or anything here as there isn't much land at all but he tells me everyday this buck comes out to eat off his apple and pear trees. Figured I'd grab a cup of coffee and just sit here and see if such a buck exists
  14. Well I failed miserably this morning...I over slept! lol. Dammit I hate when I do that. Was a long week at work and haven't got more than 4 hours of sleep each night so I was a zombie. I won't do it tomorrow morning though!!
  15. Lmao love that movie. Back on topic. Ya plenty of people drive to their stands and still kill deer. If your stand is real far away or hard to get to I still at least would park it away from the stand a little ways. When I was guiding I brought guys to their stands with my truck or atv all the time. If your dropping someone off its best to leave it running to cover up any noise you or they make getting off/out and getting up the tree.
  16. Weather for next weekend is looking to be even colder! Down around 32 at night. But this weekend should be real good too. I'm torn on where I will hunt in the morning. Either behind my house or drive down to my father in laws property where his father who lives across the street keeps telling me everyday that a "big" buck and a few does keep coming into his yard every morning. I think I might take the drive and see if I can catch a glimpse of this "big" buck lol. The old man is losing it but ya never know right!
  17. I too have used real antlers on decoys in the past. I agree it looks better. Which reminds me...I will have to dig out a set as I too have seem to have misplaced the antlers to my decoy..hmmm...could swore I put them inside the body cavity lol
  18. Elk they deny. Coyotes years ago. Wolves most definatly (had to write a 20 page paper on "wolves in the adirondacks" my senior year of high school which included quotes from several DEC officals at the time. Don't ask for the paper that was years ago lol. I may be mistaken but weren't moose disregarded until the past decade or so? A few posts in this thread have listed different animals that were denied existence or believed to be extinct (some kind of woodpecker was talked about a few pages ago I believe).
  19. There are cats here for sure. DEC will deny of course. Just like they have denied other species living in the state. Mountain lions are elusive creatures. They do their very best to avoid contact with humans. Which is why sightings will be uncommon or nearly non existent especially with very low numbers of them around. If you don't believe how elusive they can be try going out west to hunt one. They can be tough to find especially without dogs. When I worked in kansas as a guide I had a client call me and say he had just saw one and at first I didn't believe him. But after finding tracks I called fish and game and they came out and confirmed the tracks and the lion was caught a few weeks later a few miles away. Fish and game figured the cat came from Colorado. And we were about 35 miles south west of wichita. Its very possible for them to move long distances without being seen
  20. Tried to quote but something messed up on my phone. But anyways...you can chop your way into anywhere and still kill big deer. trust me I did it for a living for years. It won't bother anything if you leave the area alone for a couple days. If your that worried about noise use clippers so it's practically silent. And I wasn't meaning to blaze a path wide enough for a truck. Just take down the essential branches needed to walk through without snapping branches and catching them on your bow or pack. Yes it's best done during summer but it's not a deal breaker to get in there now. Especially since it's still early. Just take your time Teebug move slow and you should be just fine
  21. Bring a machete and reflective tape or pins. Cut yourself a small path and mark it. This way you can walk quietly and be able to find and stay on your path in the dark
  22. Coal stove, furnace or boiler. Way easier than wood and safer. Spent 15 years burning wood. Got a coal stove and I love it. Still have a small wood stove for hunting camp but for home you can't beat coal. Burns efficent, hot as hell and no smoke or black dust like you would think. Newer coal stoves are pretty neat and keep everything much cleaner than even wood. I also liked not having to cut and split and stack wood anymore. I have coal in 50 pound bags but you can make a bin and get it delivered in bulk. And you don't have to worry about covering it or keeping it dry. It will burn soaking wet doesn't matter. I love a wood stove like anyone else and I wouldn't give up the one we have at camp. But for the house...it's just so much easier! I encourage some of ya to look into it as you might find it suits you.
  23. They make solar powered chargers. My buddy has one that the solar panel is flexible and packs easy and will charge his phone, gps and other gizmos
