Wow. The dude with the air horn is pretty ballz to do that. Idk if I could sit in the tree and watch that happen. I would want to get down and make him leave with a lot of aggression. That's just uncalled for.

Good luck guys. I will be checking on here all weekend while I'm at work lol. Leaving work Sunday night and driving straight to camp. Can't wait to get there! My old man texted me today and said he saw a big buck right by camp. Said it was 140 plus. I've taught him everything I know on field scoring so I'm sure he's darn close. I got pumped up when I read that text! About a hour later he sent me another text saying he is sitting on the front porch having a glass of rum and coke and is watching two bucks fight in the woods below camp! He said it was awesome to watch. We just had the property logged and I think that has made a huge difference.

WHOS PUMPED FOR OPENING DAY!!!!
Adkhunter1590 replied to AaronBlaine's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I can't wait. My old man already headed to camp. I have to work all weekend. Going to drive out there Sunday night when I get off and hunt monday and tuesday. Wish I was the boss like my old man and could take off whenever the hell I felt like! Lol -
Truly pathetic. I want to ram my ranch hand full replacement bumper on the front of my truck into the rear end of every car I see with Obama stickers. Especially when they cut me off or do other stupid stuff. I hope our country can be turned around for the sake of my kids. Electing officals like Obama is going to ruin america. Its sad. There used to be so much pride in being a American....not much to be proud of anymore

Ya they can't use lead anymore. You'd be surprised how far out of balance a wheel can be even with a brand new tire. With the new tpms systems it's even more of a pain in the ass
-
Don't mount them yourself. And deff don't have walmart do anything on your vehicles. Those guys are jokes. You need someone who knows what they are doing to properly balance them or your gonna end up with a crappy ride. I prefer to buy local. Repeat business ends up getting you bigger discounts later on. That and idk how it is around you but a lot of shops around here either quadruple the mount/balance price or just flat out won't do it if you buy the tires someplace else

I think covering your scent works better than eliminating. Your body will always be producing sweat and the bacteria from it will emit human smell. And like others have said with foods smoke etc. Hard to completely eliminate all smells from attaching to your body and clothes. Covering up with wafers and other stuff seems to work well I've always found. I also use a gel that smells like apples around my stand. Just smear it on a couple trees. Its not edible so not considered "baiting". I never thought it would lure in deer for the smell I've just used it to mask any scent I emit.

Lol. That thing is as good as dead if it makes it past one to many stands.

Will checking my rifle ruin my hunt tomorrow?
Adkhunter1590 replied to Woodjr55's topic in Deer Hunting
Fire away. I had a group of guys come hunt with me in kansas and I took them to a sand pit to take a couple shots before the morning hunt the next day. After all 8 of them got done blowing 100 rounds for fun more than target practice a 163 inch buck crept into the corner of the sand pit as we all stood there bsing. One of the guys noticed him first and turned around and looked at me like he saw a ghost and asked if he could take him. I said sure season opened today man if you want him have at it. Sure enough he nailed him with a free hand 175 yard shot. He was a happy man lol. I was too because instead of hunting all week he got to help me take down bow stands and cameras and move his buddies around to different stands haha. -
Lately I haven't done anything at all. My camo has been in the house and the buck I killed the other night I had blue jeans on that I had worn all day and a camo jacket that hasn't been washed in scent free detergent in weeks. I never go to crazy. Usually wash my stuff in scent free detergent. Then air dry outside. Bag it in plastic and store in a rubbermaid with those fresh earth wafers. I'm a big believer in those little wafers. I usually have at least 2 if not 3 attached to me and my pack. I think they really help cover up your scent. And they last for a long time. I still have one attached to my scent blocker pants that have been there since last year and it still stinks lol. Sometimes I will shower with scent free soap but most of the time I forget it. Rubber boots are always worn as well.

Thanks Geno. Haha your right man I had no idea about the 3 blades. O well it was my last one anyways. Wasn't a huge fan of them to begin with but hey they were freebies so I figured I'd use them up. Geno when you gonna venture out west and get after a kansas giant? I'm hoping to make a trip out next fall but most likely the year after.

Kids are a good luck charm sometimes. My 9 month old gave me "kisses" (more like slobbering lol) the other night before I walked out the door to hunt and I shot a 6 point that night. Congrats on a healthy baby elmo. Your world is deff gonna change now. Stock up on anything with caffine for those sleepless nights!

O I forgot to mention the best part of the hunt. Not only did he come in close. I'm talking 10 yards but when I drew back when he was around 25 yards he walked right at me and stopped at 10 and stared at me for almost 5 mins. I couldn't take a frontal shot I don't believe in shots like that. My arms got so tired I had to let the bow down real slow. He stared at me the entire time. Never ran off or got alarmed. I'm guessing because I was on my knees and the lower half of my body was behind a little knoll and had grass on top the knoll somewhat blocking me and the fact that it was windy and grass was swaying around that he didn't think much of my movement. I was shocked though. After a couple mins of a stare down he turned broadside and I drew back again and made the shot when he put his head down to feed. Never had a deer be so casual while engaged in a stare down like that lol

ADK Birthday Buck! My 3rd Hamilton county buck!
Adkhunter1590 replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Deer Hunting
Congrats man! Very nice buck! Those hard pack in trips are a blast. I miss guiding the back country in montana. Maybe the wife will let me set up a wall tent in the backyard! Lol -
Thanks everyone. I have been sitting in my stand every time I've gone out since opening day and I was just looking to switch it up a bit so I took a little stroll. Ended up working out quite well lol. I didn't know about the 3 blades being illegal. Type I meant "2 blade" . Havent seen any signs in stores either. The ones I have are left overs for a package I got in kansas like 2 years ago.

Well I shot a nice little 6 point. He will be mighty tasty! Was after a big 8 but he wanted nothing to do with my grunts or bleats and ran off after does way out in a field. I have been craving some venison and dying to let a arrow fly so when this 6 point came across the field about 150 yards away on a string to my grunts I let him have a rage 3 blade. Was a cool hunt I watched a lot of action. I was on the ground and just decided to walk up to the edge of the field and just lean against a tree and watch till dark if anything came out. Didnt really expect to be cutting up a deer that night lol

I have the under Armour rubber boots. I love them. Extremely comfortable and have been very durable over the last 2 years. I wear them year round and abuse the hell out of them. Still no tears or leaks or really much sign of wear when they are cleaned up. I highly suggest them. I have the uninsulated ones and I think they run about 120 bucks.

How do pass the time on stand when bored?
Adkhunter1590 replied to nybuckboy's topic in Deer Hunting
Same here with playing on my phone. Text a few people sometimes. Or read this forum and some truck forums I go on. Usually check the weather app at least 25 times lol. I usually play with the phone for a hour then sit and watch the woods and other animals for a couple hours. Then once I begin to bore a bit I will take the phone back out. Napping isn't unheard of either lol. I've been known to doze off leaning against a real comfy tree haha -
Boy it would be a tough call. I'd say yes on number 1. As long as I scanned the woods thoroughly and double checked I would take the shot. The 2nd one would be a tough call. I only hunt private land so I have the peace of mind of knowing where everyone is. And our stands are all very far apart and there's no way we could hit each other. On public land I would say I would wait for a better shot. No deer is worth another's life. But at the same time like others have said, most of the time there is no "perfect" shot with solid back stops behind your target. Its a tough call for sure

You need more decoys. Birds will be more likely to come in with more decoys around. When I go hunt waterfowl in kansas we put out a minimum of 500 decoys in a field. Usually much more than that. Layout blinds are deff a good idea too. Good luck!

Both are great guns. I have heard very good things about the venture. It is said to be a extremely accurate gun for the price and well built too. If it were me I'd go with the venture. But you can't go wrong with a 700 either.
-
Nice buck Geno! Sounds like a awesome hunt! Mount that one for sure!
-
If he doesn't use technology to hunt he must strangle his deer to death with his bare hands. Pretty sure bows and guns are considered technology. May not be "modern" tech but was at one point in time

I think we have the same understanding teebug. Its not complicated. People want to baby kids so much now it's sickening. I see it everyday. Even some of my buddies are guilty of it. But everyone has the right to raise their kids how they want. Just don't tell me to alter my parenting because your kid isn't ready to do stuff mine is.

Hmmm. I know a lot of people in mayfield. I will have to make some calls!
