I'm not sure what all there might be. Mainly odds and ends, box of this and that to see what brand/load the gun likes better, etc... Some old stuff, that I might question it's accuracy. It can't be mailed and probably wouldn't be worth the gas to pick it up anyway. You would be better off using the gas money and buying new stuff.

Don't laugh, some of it is .357!! LOL

How do you dispose of old unwanted ammo? I thought I heard at one time that you could turn it over to any police agency and they would get rid of it for you? Not sure though? Would like to clean out the gun safe one of these days.

Thanks for the links. They will help give me an idea anyway. BTW, isn't NOT having electricity, more like "camping"? Honestly, I don't think I would want power. Being off the grid is nice and is no big deal. Propane lights, propane stove, propane refrig, wood heat. If I want to watch TV or charge cell phones, then I have a marine battery with an invertor. On the rare occasion that I want to use power equipment (saws), I have a generator. Maybe I've just adapted, but I don't feel like I miss out on anything by not having power. Actually, I enjoy it.

Maybe you should have read the origional post. He said his lack of sightings date back after the first day of archery, not just since gun season started.

Looking for some input regarding how to determine the monetary value of my camp. 'Considering' selling and buying something closer to home, but not sure if it would be worth it (money would have to be split). I can figure out the acreage (27 acres) value, based on local sales, but I'm not so sure about the rustic log cabin? All the trees used for logs were cut on the property and cabin was built by the previous owner himself. I don't think that square footage would be a fair estimation in this case. We use propane lights and a woodstove inside. I think I would like to avoid using a realtor. Not sure a realtor would value it the same way a hunter would anyway. Doubt a realtor would appreciate or consider the "extras" (cleared foodplots, pond, sawtooth oak/chinese chestnut/crabapple tree plantings, 16' - 6x8' tower stand, storage buildings, it's "remoteness", state hunting land ~5 miles away, etc...) into their value like a hunter would. Is there a site, dedicated to selling hunting property and camps, that might give me a better idea on value? Suggestions on how to determine value of cabin itself? I currently do not have pics of the inside, as they usually turn out pretty dark and don't do it justice.

There are GIANTS killed in PA every year!
-
You know, it does make you wonder. Articles in newspapers have been written recently about wild boars in NY, DEC statements to shoot on sight, etc..., but other than the "one" killed in Marion, I haven't heard of any others being taken in NY. You would certainly think with the amount of hunters out during gun season, that at least a few would be taken.?

It's not just you, trust me! Everyone that I've talked to hunting in 8F is experencing the same thing! I hunt in 8F exclusively. I keep a hunting journal of every hunt. The first 2 weeks of bow season was better than average for sightings. I saw deer just about everytime out! I had trailcams over scrapes at this time also and they were on FIRE! I've never seen so much scrape activity, so early in the season. Not just the amount of bucks, but the number of big mature bucks hitting the scrapes at that time. I ONLY see the big boys come out to play during the rut. I've been doing this for several years and I know the pattern. The young bucks start hitting scrapes for ~10 days before the big boys. When the big boys know the does are about ripe, then they start hitting them, which normally happens in the first week of November. This year, I put my cams on mock scrapes on 10/14 and had big mature bucks on them immediately until the end of October. Crazy activity, ~2 weeks earlier than I've ever seen. I had videos of bucks chasing does in the middle of the night and a lot of daytime scrape action. From 10/15-10/31, I hunted 18x and saw 23 deer. Then, Nov. 1st rolls around. Between Nov. 1st-18th, I bow hunted 24x and only saw deer 3x (5 deer)!! Plus, scrape action, trailcam pics, and daytime activity completely shut down. Gun season started on 11/19. I've only gone out 5x but have yet to even see a deer in gun season! I left one trailcam out (pulled the others for fear of tresspassers stealing) in a spot that usually sees the most activity. In the first 5 days of gun season, only one deer (fawn) passed by, and it was moving at 2am! Yeah, I share your frustration!

Can you imagine trying to get through the woods with that rack on your head? LOL What a buck!! -
I would again caution anyone that wants to try this to not use a galvenized can. Do a google search on it! NOT GOOD! Just a couple... http://www.ehow.com/info_8620608_dangers-cooking-galvanized-steel.html http://www.smokingme...om/a/galvanized

One thing that I've learned is not to use lighter fluid on the charcoal or buy the charcoal with lighter fluid on it. When I used to use that, I could taste the lighter fluid on the turkey. I've gone to using plain charcoal and use a charcoal chimney and newspaper to get the charcoal going.

I have yet to see a deer this gun season! Nothing! You bet your butt I'd shoot him right about now! LOL I need some meat in the freezer! Don't let anyone make you feel bad or belittle you for taking a legal buck! To each their own!
-
That's your buck, no doubt. I completely agree that hunting season brings out the worst in some people. Can't understand why he thinks he has any right to the buck? The guy was clearly tresspassing and never should have been there to even fire a shot at the buck in the first place.

We do the turkey under a bucket about once a year. The trash can used in the link above sure concerns me! Everything I have read stresses not to use buckets or cans that have paint or are galvanized, due to toxins: Cover turkey and stick with plain steel bucket: - Invert 5 gallon plain steel bucket and lower same over turkey down to the aluminum foil. There should be no handle, no paint, and no galvanizing on the bucket. Removing the handle eliminates it being hung up on the bird during bucket removal. The paint or other coatings are obvious toxins. The paint should be removed and the bucket fired for an hour or more before using it to cook a bird. Galvanizing must not be present on the bucket to avoid zinc narcosis.
