Big doe! Congrats!

Just play around with it. Test it out in the yard and walk by it at different distances and look at the pics. You'll get a feel for how high it should be.

My son started going hunting with me since he was 3. Loved to go hunting with me! Never passed up an opportunity! He is 16 now and discovered GIRLS! All his time is spent with his girlfriend(s)! My daughter is 12 and has been going out with me since she was very young also. She just went out and sat in the stand with me last week. Loves to squirrel, turkey, and deer hunt with me. I do see her interest starting to fizzle out also, as she is spending a lot of time with friends and is approaching the teen years. Don't get TOO excited about how the young ones show so much interest in hunting at such a young age. Once they hit the teen years and everything that comes with it, you might be disappointed. I never would have believed it myself, as much as my kids liked to go. All you can do is give them a good foundation and hope they get back into it later.

Any Experience With Lasor Vision Correction?
Cabin Fever replied to Cabin Fever's topic in General Chit Chat
Sure sound like everyone has had great results! I better get checking into the cost. -
I have a stand with a crabapple tree 20-25 yards on each side of it. The last 2 times I'm hunted the stand before dark, I've had 2 different does with fawns come out of the thicket and trot directly to the apple trees at 5pm, right on the dot. I swear they wanted to be the first ones at the apple trees to grab any apples that have fallen during the day! Like women rushing to a sale, gotta be the first ones there!! LOL

Do you shoot the doe if the fawns are with her?
Cabin Fever replied to mossy725's topic in Deer Hunting
I have a hard time taking a doe if she has fawns. Especially if she only has 1 fawn. Can't say that they don't need their mother after they lose their spots and have been weaned. They still haven't seen their first winter yet, so it would be benefitial to have momma around to get them through that. And yes, does and fawns get back together again after she has been bred. -
Screw that, shoot them! If you're concerned about the "stink", haul them away then or put the carcass near your buddys stand.

I used it before, as I hunt near apple orchards and a lot of crabapple trees. Might wanna wait until it gets cold enough that the yellow jackets aren't active anymore. Man that does bring them in!! Sometimes I'll even pick up a couple rotten apples on my way in and rub/smear them all over the sides of the tree that I'm in when I'm in the stand. Having the strong smell of the rotten/sweet apples, certainly has to help cover some of the human odor.

Here's a video of him intimidating a smaller 8pt to get away from the scrape. The next video after this one just showed the smaller buck running away. No confrontation needed! But, the smaller 8pt snuck back in a little later!

I find it interesting, and a bit annoying, when people say that trailcams spook deer. Does he look the least bit "spooked"? LOL I think it depends on the brand of trailcam and if it makes noise, looks too out of place, or something else that gets their attention. I only have experience with Bushnell Trophy cams though.

Great buck! That'll give you something to think about!

Great pics! That red fox... too funny!!
-
He's a beauty! He sure is getting his neck jacked up!
-
Good God he's wide!! What a rack!!
-
I drove by this guy again yesterday. I see his still laying there.... no rack, but he's still there!

Been toying with the idea of Lasik or other lasor vision correction. Has anyone done this that has first hand experience with it? I've only heard positive experiences from people chit chatting on the radio, but don't know of anyone personally that has done it. I don't think I've ever heard anything bad. I would LOVE to get away from contacts and glasses!

100% serious! Now I'm sorry I deleted the video of me "freshening" the scrape! Bladder was about ready to explode, so I needed to drain the tank fast! No time to shut the cam off first!
-
Very nice! Looks like he's just chillin'!!
-
Sounds opposite to what those bleat cans do then. Those things really make a long bleat!
-
Well, lets just say, it's all ME!! I just wiz in my scrapes.
-
Oh yeah!
-
Nice buck! Congrats!
-
Hey welcome shooter! I work right in your neck of the woods! Congrats on your buck!!

I am a big fan of using the grunt call. I have probably grunted in every buck (6 or 7) that I've shot in the past 5 years that I can remember. Many of these were from just blind calling and throwing a few grunts out there when nothing is going on. I want to try using the snort wheeze this year also. Interesting on some of the hunting shows how some bucks that show little interest when hearing a grunt will turn on a dime and come in to check out a snort wheeze that is thrown at him.
