A little update. I heard in the past that deer were spotted by the farms on Pulaski Road in Huntington. Well the other day I was going to work and made a right onto westbound Pulaski Road from Oakwood Road. Just past the little farm stand Kerber's (which has an amazing cheddar cheese ham and egg biscuit) I saw three bucks on the front lawn of the house immediately next to Kerbers. I stopped and turned around to make sure and yup three bucks. First one had a very large body (at least 3 years old) and already had velvet antlers about the length of his ears and already branching. Second one was a big spike in velvet (probably 4 inches) and last one was a yearling buck. The woods on both sides of Pulaski over there before the nursery are so thick and come right up to the road side that it is just a matter of time before one gets hit.

Question for anyone with knowledge about average cost for digging a well for house water and also a septic system. Assume property not in the watershed area, most likely going to be in Chenango or Broome county. I was looking at buying land and then having a double wide put on the property as a home. Obviously the additional costs of having a well dug and a septic system or cesspool are added. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

Overcast with slight breeze in 7P. Jumped 2 does in dark behind my garage and had a big curvy spike come through at first light up from new logging road. Perfect broadsie shot at 40. Let him go to grow.

I'm having the same bad luck. Other than seeing a yearling doe at the bird feeder on the way back to my house a couple weekends ago I have seen squat. Jumped three in the dark on two separate occasions but that is it. What makes it more frustrating is that I have 14 different deer on camera on one of my little clover plots. One pic had 8 does and 1 spike at one time in the field and 5 different bucks that I have gotten on cam beside those. I think since they started the season opener on October 1 we all get gung ho and get out there right away and end up seeing nada and being discouraged. I'm holding off until November 6,7,8,9, (after my previous hunt of Oct 17, 18, 19) when I will be in the woods dawn to dusk. Got to hang in there, a sit all day soon enough can lead to a minute of heart pounding adrenaline action and a nice buck on the ground.

Hunted Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in Afton / Coventry in 7P primarily for deer but have to say this has got to be one of my more memorable weekends hunting. Deer wise saw nada in the woods. Jumped deer in the dark Friday and Saturday morning on the way to the stand and only saw one deer, a yearly doe, at the bird feeder on the way back to the house this morning at 9 am. Each afternoon, I took my German short haired Pointer Jango,14 months old, out for some grouse hunting, thinking that I wouldn't be in the deer stand all day, and boy do I have memories.... Flushed grouse on Friday and Saturday. Saturday afternoon I stumbled across someone's weed growing spot on state land and today in an hour saw a fisher and got some video and flushed 4 grouse. Only 1 shot at grouse all weekend as the leaves are still too thick but am happy my boy is doing well. A very nice way to spend the afternoon as opposed to sitting in the house eating and watching TV. Sorry if the pics/video is sidewise. Fisher was crazy. I pull up to a spot on state land to hunt grouse where we flushed 1 yesterday as the area was loaded with apple trees, horthawn and multiflora rose. So as I am about to park and I see a fisher 35 yards off the road going crazy on a dead tree, going up and down and around and around ripping and clawing the bark off. I guess he chased a chipmonk up there and was after dinner. So I turn my jeep around and he is still there as I drive back again, have to find a new spot as I don't want to dump my dog into the lap of a fisher. And he is still at it. So I get out, cross the drainage ditch and stalk to about 25 yards from him and got this video. Not the best but my I-phone was all I had. Look on the dead tree in the middle of video and he looks like a black squirrel on the tree. Oh and after we left, hit a different spot and flushed 4 grouse in an hour. 1 shot no hits. Great day. Called it quits at 9am in 7P. Freezing. Shooting a recurve and only having a thin shooting glove on your is cold. As i am walking back to house walk up on a yearling doe by the bird feeder by the house. So i take my short hair to hunt for some grouse and see a fisher 30 yards off the road clombing a dead tree ripping it apart. He was so occupied i turned the jeep around got out and stalked to within 20 yards and took some video. Will try And post later.

Maybe a coon. or a porky. look around for scat under the tree. Maybe from repeated climbing by the animal in the same spot on the tree as opposed to a one time occurrence. Also see if you can look up the tree and see if there is a coon den. -
Thanks for that woodcock sighting link.
