As far as im concerned i feel for HUNT6246. I just put in an approx 1/4 acre plot in the middle of the woods. Now i knew we had fairly high deer denisity near my property in Chenango but after clearly the tres and putting out uckwheat this May i was really suprrised when my trail cam showed pics of 8 or 9 deer pounding the plot. I disced and planted green patch plus in the end of July and again the deer were hitting it hard. Even though my ultimate goal is a better deer herd i would still like to have some growth come bow season after all the hard work, sweat and bug bites getting the plot ready.

During the realcold weather i use under armor cold gear, then a windblocker turtle neck, wind blocker vest, wind blocker sweat shirt then an outer layer. all cabelas gear and works great.

I am looking for some recommendations for a disc harrow. Currently the one i used this year was older than dirt, was a pull behind type (not liftable / no 3 pt attachment) but due to being rusty and old it made the most awful ear piercing screeching / squeaking when it was pull from 2 discs rubbing tgether...but considering it was free i cant complain too much. Although it worked fine the problem is for my to get it from pllot to plot takes hours because of having it to pull it very slowly down logging roads. Therefore i am looking for a recommendation as to a new disc for next year to speed up my ploting efforts. Im up in Chenango County and know there are a few Tractor Supply companies around and i know they stock king kutter discs (an angle iron from and a tube bow steel frame which is heavier) Considering i am only going to be discing maybe 2 acres in total spread out over 3 or 4 plots does anyone have any recommendations. Oh it going to pulled behind a cub cadet 32 horse tractor

I put out the buckwheat just for the summer and then disced it into the ground as a green manure. the after fertilizer and lime i seeded with mossy oak's green patch plus mixed with their clover plus to hopefully have a spring clover plot. we shall see. first time with this plot

After seeing how the deer are using / eating what little growth that has come up ultimately it will be a fall plot. I have some perenial clover / chicory in the plot (first year) so i will have to see how it does this spring. I took into consideration the direction of the plot to get as much sun and i am trying to cut back the surrounding trees (mostly beech) so that it gets as much sun as possible. I think im gonna keep the trees as the property is only 32 acres and i want it to be as much of a super market for the deer as poossible come fall. I started to put in the plots cuz in the past once the acorns were gone deer sighting dropped significatnly as we only have 32 acres. The trail cam i put up and the photos i got really have given me the food plot bug because i can clearly see at least 7 if not 8 different deer using the plot from the pics. thanks for the advice and i will let you guys know how it goes this year.

I would love a stand like that nice and comfortable. Just set up and lock on 18 feet up in a hemlock overlooking new foodplot. Hopefully something passes within recurve range.

Bucks appearing on trail cam. I just recently picked up a bushnell trail cam after using a 5 year old stealth cam. Anyway I have had the bushnell over a new woodland plot that had some buckwheat in it all summer and got a lot of pics of about 7 or 8 differnt deer. doe and a fawn, doe 2 fawns and a last year small spike and 2 other does. Question is that although i have yet to see a buck on the cam yet this. I am assuming that the bucks are elsewhere (cuz in 5 years we have taken 4 off property with 3 being 100 plus inches) when do you guys with similar scenarios start seeing bucks appear. I am not super worried cuz i know they are around just curious...I would assume that sightings or pics would start increasing in mid october..

Looking for a little advice regarding some small woodland plots i started this year. Both going to be between 1/4 to 1/2 acre when done but the problem im having is that i am going to have to cut some nice sized oaks if i want the plot to be completely tree free. Both get very decent sun light but not 100% full sun. Both plots are located where they are on the property due to previous logging in the area giving me a head start on the tree clearing, space on property and distance from fenceline. Question is how much a difference will leaving these oaks in plot affect growth of whats planted underneath. The canopy on the oaks starts almost at the top of the tree (not all the way down) and isnt very wide. These arent the only oaks on the property (we have a ton of oaks that produce acorns) and considering that we only have 32 acres i was considering leaving them in as i want to try and make the property as much of a grocery store as ppossible for the deer. Thanks The two photos are from trail cam but only show a small portion of plot...These photos were also taken early in summer with some buckwheat growing that i threw around...since then plot was cleaned up better of ground debris and disced and planted with Green Patch Plus .

Great looking plot. But how did you get it that clean. I just put in a woodlot lot August 1 and mine (first year plot) is no where near as clean as that.

mbucks, where were u hunting in Coventry? my family has a place off of route 235 on Stonehill Road. There are def some nice bucks in that area. I was up last week in august and saw a ton of nice bucks still in velvet all along route 235, route 30, route 7 from coventry to afton to nineveh. i myself didnt see jack this year but a year of no bucks makes bigger bucks for next year.

My father has a place off of 235 in harpursville outside coventry. I try to at least shoot 8's or better but i dont know about anyone else. Good luck in your QDM. We only have 30 acres and cant imagine it doing any good but i am sticking to my guns.

I hunted opening weekend and also Nov 5,6,7 didnt see any rutting action, only small spike which i passed on. My brother said he had a 6 come by his stand raking trees in reponse to my rattling ( i was about 150 yds away from him) and a fork horn come in but that was it. Now it time to break the 7mm wsm and make some noise (well hopefully)

I have hunted in NY and PA. Started 10 yrs ago in PA before the 3 pt rule went into effect. I have to say that today where i hunt in PA the deer are much better. You see a lot more bucks running around in that 90 to 110 inch range. Now they arent monsters but very nice bucks. The problem i see is that most of these deer in PA and the ones i've seen in NY arent outside the ears except maybe a few examples. Now i know passsing a bcu always makes him better but i cant imagine too many hunters being happy if they had to watch 13 and 14 inch wide 100in deer walking passed.

Big deer yes. And SCI is a great organization that does plenty for hunters and hunters rights but usually when a deer is scored SCI it came from a high fence ranch of some sort. All the legit (free range / free roaming) giants are always B & C or P & Y. Good for him. Giant buck but not for me.

I started 3 years ago with a PSE impala (only taken some small game). Last year picked up a Martin x-200 55lbs. Have been shoting a lot a range trying to get good. Feel very confident out to 22 and confident to 27 or 28. Trying to dedicate some early season weekends strickly to recurve. Not sure if i want to give up rut weekend yet my luck i will see a stud at 40 yards and with a recuve there no chance.

For me i will take the 7th to 14th with 9, 10 and 11 being the best but really it depends on which of those days fall on the weekend.

If i was holding my recurve...shoot. (have yet to get a deer with it). If i'm holding the compound pass and wait for a doe.
