  1. I try to stay 100% trad. Successful 2 out of the last 3 years on does. Only time i switch to compound is like moog, bad weather, and then i hunt out of my brothers box blind. Not set up to use the recurve and need the distance of the compound.
  2. On my way to Riverhead this morning from Huntington, saw 5 dead bucks along the way in the median starting at about exit 63.
  3. Thin neck. Looks like 2 and a 1/2
  4. Im going out for a few hours before turkey and football.
  5. Never claimed that but I have had a few missed shots due to the tree rocking and rolling.
  6. Congrats. Who cares if its not a monster buck. Shoot what ever trips your trigger yearling, doe or buck.
  7. weather looks like it may me getting a little better. For 7p Sat calls for a slight chance of rain/ wintery mix until the afternoon when it picks up to 60% chance. Feeling better all ready as I hate sitting in a ground blind which was plan B with all this rain that I thought was coming.
  8. Yup. Every few years a shitty opener makes some big boys get bigger.
  9. Saw that too. Sunday looks like snow for my area in 7P but still windy. Wish I had a field edge to sit on to not have to worry about falling branches.
  10. Just had 6 doe and a button buck eating in my plot for the last 25 min. Past on the button buck at 15 yds and missed a big doe at 25 with the recurve.
  11. I just bought the card reader from Moultrie, about the size of half a credit card for about $25. Works easy enough with a simple app downloaded from the app store. easy to see videos and pics. Deletes real quick.
  12. Thought it was turning out to be a good morning. Just got set up and heard one sounding off about 500 yards away in neighbors field. 8 to 10 gobbles then POW. Someone got lucky. But at least they r gobbling
  13. Getting ready to head out for day 2. Wonder how that atorm affected the birds last night. Probaby soaked. Anyone have any rainy evening before a mornings hint advice?
  14. Only heard maybe 4 or 5 gobbles all day. Saw a nice coopers hawk and a goshawk. Then at 2 when i was on my way to some food plot maintenance i jumped two toms in my plot. I know where i will be tomorrow. I think they were feeding on the clover and rye thats popping up in the plot.
  15. Only heard 1 gobble at about 5:45am. Heard 2 shots. Very quiet morning.
  16. Headed out in a couple minutes. Short 5 minute walk to my set up. No birds roosted just going off of prior years hunts. Good luck to all. Stay safe and shoot straight.
  17. i would start with S.L.I.M. its from NY State Dec. State Land Interactive Mapper or something like that. It shows you the boundaries of state land pieces in both traditional maps and in aerial photos which is good. You can also print up the maps in color. After that its all leg work. Good luck and good hunting
  18. Another thing to consider is how much time you will be able to invest into either training your dog or keep up with refreshers if you have a pro trainer do all the initial work. With a pointer, if from a good breeder, the pointing is the easy part as they are born with that ability but the training involves making sure the dog doesn't bust birds before you get within gun range. As to a flusher, the major training involves getting the dog to walk within gun range and work the ground in front of you. I think it is a little easier as training goes. Also if you go on you tube and put in search for grouse hunting you can see some good videos of all types of dogs working including labs who have the natural retrieve after the shot. Good luck and have fun
  19. Good to see timber work. I am planning for my early spring work sitting around work.
  20. Nice half rack 8. Is that a ladder stand in the background?
  21. Hunted this year and although I saw plenty of does I realized during gun season that the property was very open, especially after the storm of opening weekend took most of the leaves off of the trees by Thanksgiving. My question is this, we had the property logged August of 2014 and although I am seeing green briar pop up I don't know what else to expect or how soon to expect it as far as regeneration growth. When it was logged I had the logger leave the tops. I am planning on dropping 20 or so poplar trees, giants that serve no purpose and are shading out the canopy as the logger did not want them. We had a forester come through and he said that they shade out the canopy and serve no real purpose to wildlife at that age. With all that being said and a new cutting by me this Spring of the poplars, when should I expect to see a difference. Also after I drop the poplars I am going to plant some pines throughout this area in the tops of the cut trees for additional cover and to also protect the seedlings. Thanks
  22. Out in 7p till dark. Heard a couple shots on walk in. Nice weather. Close to 40 with a slight breeze in my face
  23. Heading out in 7p in 45 minutes. Taking my brothers shooting house because hes at home. Weather looks good this morning with rain forecasted for this afternoon. Good luck to all and shoot straight.
