He may be deceptive with the last measurement of with circumference of the beam with that palmation. Easy 125. Great buck anyway.

Was out this afternoon and had a good 2 hours. Saw 5 doe and was thinking about how subjective deer hunting is good or bad Rut or no rut. Its all what you see and don't realize what could be sneaking around behind you in a grey coat blessing their lucky stars while you had the worst season of you life. Tonight walked down to corner of my property by my food plot. Started to see a ton of new tracks since the snow. Then spotted a doe. Then as that doe was feeding toward me spotted 4 others below her going to the neighbors property. As i am sitting till dark i see 3 guys in blaze on the neighbors property walking out long after i saw the deer. Probably thinking not a good nite because no deer but i watched 4 deer walk in between the 3. One looking up and 2 looking down the hill. Very funny and i am sure i have been there plenty of times. Makes you wonder how good or bad a season really is.

Out in 7p for the afternoon hunt. Up for thanksgiving with the family till saturday. Saw nothing sat and sun. Actually 5 of us saw nothing after hunting private land and walking state land. Tonight different. Walked out at 2:30 pm to check cams and saw tracks all over property. Work my way back to food plot and saw 4 in some hemlocks about 100 yards out going to neighbors property and had another young doe walk within 45 yards of me. 5 deer within 10 minutes. Would have been perfect with the old iron site 30-30 but no doe tag this year. Great weather. Headed back out tomorrow and found a great rub. -

Snow is covering everything. Weighing down branches. All my shooting lanes are gone. Just heard first shot -

Got about 6 inches of snow in 7p and its still coming down a little. -
Was looking at the weather for opening weekend in 7P. Saturday a little warm with a breeze but Sunday much colder with rain and snow and wind between 15 to 25 mph. Ugg. Its going to be a long sit on an exposed ladder stand, especially knowing that my brother with be inside his newly built shooting house with windows and a heater. So at what wind speed do you call it quits for the day. Not only for lack of deer movement but for safety reason such as falling branches or trees.

I just did the same thing in prep for this weekend. Sprayed my hunting arrows down with camp dry for my recurve. Also if it is also raining or even misting i will put a zip lock or sandwich bag over my fletching while i walk to my stand and on stand. Once i have an arrow nocked i will do what i can to keep the water off my fletch. Even cover it with my hand or shirt until its go time. Good luck to all

Great story. I will be out chsing the king this weekend with my dog in between bow hunts in the am and pm. Hoping for 4 flushes in a day let alone 4 kills. Those must have been the days.

Get more sunlight in there. Even if you take out a couple of trees most of that throw and grow stuff is usually winter rye or wheat and it will grow on the bed of your truck in a teaspoon of dirt. As for the lime do the best you can do. Of course discing it into the soil is ideal but I read somewhere on another forum of a guy that simply top dressed (spread on the surface) lime and his PH came up. How much lime did you apply. My experience with woodland plots is that their PH is usually very low. Mine started out in the 4s. Now after 3 years they are in the high 6s. Also may want to consider expanding the plot over time. If you have any deer density those small plots get eaten up quick. Good luck and keep us posted.

Although probably not the correct way, in my plots I dig out around the stump a little and cut them as flush to the ground as possible. That way they don't affect the brush hog when mowing. Im using a pull behind disc with a tractor so when they are cut flush the tractor and disc roll right over them.

Lack of rain is my fear also. I planted buckwheat end of june and haven't been back to see if the plots were a fail or not. Using them for green fertilizer so no big deal. However, I am worried that this dry spell will continue and screw up my fall planning plans. I read somewhere that it is better to not have rain at all (until a good amount falls) then to have a little to start germination and then a long dry spell which will kill the young plants. May have to wait closer to September to play it safe.

Still nothing in 7p. But this is grear weather. Been fooled by the "i hear deer foot steps, dam only a squirrel" for the last time. Next year im gonna sit in my stands end of september and thin out these red squirrels with the ole marlin .22 -

Back out in the stand in 7p. Travelled light because of heat now looks like its going to rain. Nada all morning. Took the afternoon off to run the dog. -

22 feet up in 7p. 57 degrees and a little breezy. Had to opt out of my food plot stand because the wind was wrong so picked a tree in an oak flat and stumbled across a superfresh rub line. Maybe my new spot for a while. -
Im going up this upcoming weekend November 6,7,8. Hoping to find some in the Chenango area or any grouse. I heard that the 3rd or 4th week in October was best for flight birds. Hopefully there will still be some around

Decide whether to take the recurve or the compound. Still never got one with the recurve but the wet weather has me nervous about getting my traditional feathers wet and not being able to shoot out of a ground if I am forced to hunt out of one because of the weather. Maybe take both and switch it up.
-
My situation is the complete opposite. Set up the trail cameras over two small plots and get plenty of regular shots of bucks 100 to 120 (shooters in my book) late august through early October then they just disappear. This year I am going up this opening weekend to see if any are lingering around but now have to deal with a potential hurricane. Oooh the joys of deer hunting.

Was on another forum and a guy there was detailing his training since Aug with his dog. Said he was seeing good Grouse numbers but who knows exactly where he is. I am going up to Binghamton area this weekend and pray that i don't get rained out.

On way back home for lunch after work, traveling on Northern State westbound and just as I am about to get off on exit 42N, Huntington / Deer Park Road, saw two fawns still in spots on north side of parkway.

I was on way home from spending fourth of July upstate and as traveling down throughway near Harriman State Park it seemed like a lot of trees were not fully leafed out. Was wondering if anyone has seem this. Looks sort of like trees in early spring when they first start to leaf and aren't completely filed out.
