I hunted 4w this past weeked and shot a 200 lb bear. I did see a lot of does and a nice 6 pointer, but that was the only buck I saw, but didnt have a shot at it.

2010 Deer Harvest Thread - Post your Pics and Success Stories!

At around 8:00 in the morning I saw a black object for about 2 seconds. He went behind a brush of trees so I couldnt see what it was. Then he popped out of the brush heading right toward my stand. He peeked up at me, then looked back down, I drew down of him, he peeked up again, looked back down and then I shot. The arrow hit right by his neck area and he took off running. I radioed to my father in law that I shot a bear. I waited about 45 min then it started drizzling so I told him to come over to follow the trail before it dissapeared. 5 minutes later he radios over that while walking to my stand the bear was right by him. The bear hot wind of him a barely able to walk he started moving away. My father in law took a quick shot with the bow and put the arrow right through his ear lobe, and the arrow stayed in looking like an earring. The bear was pretty much done by then so he went another 10 yards and died. I'm thinking that I'm going to get it mounted with the arrow in the ear. -
I saw a 6 pointer following a doe from a distance but not chasing.

Opening morning I shot a 200 lb bear. The evening post I saw a beautiful 6 pointer about 60 yards away, with a rifle I would of had him, but he wouldn't come in. A bunch of does. Sunday morning I had a few does under me before the sun came up, then later in the day I used the can a few times and 2 coyote came running out. They were just out of reach to take a shot. Hopefully getting back out next tuesday, damn work!

I know this is for deer but opening day I shot this 200 lb bear -
I use 'Dead down wind' and I swear by it. Great success and I've walked up on deer early in the morning on the way to my stand and they barely moved.

I washed everything today, went food shopping. O hope it rains tomorrow on the island so I can leave earlier. Just want to get in the woods already.
-
I start showering with scent free about 2-3 days before I go out, and the night before I go into the woods. I hunt with guys that smoke and they still are successful, but whether it's mental or whatever I still feel the need to take the scent free showers.

Congrats!! I like the set up also!

Getting antsy!!! Can't wait to get out in the woods!!!

I know how everyone feels about feeding deer, but what's everyones take on minerals? Example: Acorn rage, C'mere Deer, etc.. I know it's illegal in NYS, just seeing if people find it different than feeding.

My stand location is just as strange. Through out the day I have a swirling wind, but all the deer come from behind me, so much so that this year I'm taking a chance and I turned my stand around to face that direction. They always start from behind me and move around to the front without scenting me. I once had a beautiful 8 pointer come from behind me and it startled me, and he took off from my movement.

I've used sawyer for the past few years on Long Island and not one tick or chigger found on my clothes or myself. They sell it at Dick's sporting goods if you don't want to order and pay shipping from cabelas.
-
Don't get too excited, I can't tell you where that deer came from. It never showed up on any trail cams. I'm also in hancock off of 268.
-
I won't. I hunt public land and I went out last year on opening day and people were everywhere. I parked in one spot and before I went out in the woods I saw another hunter walk out and said dont bother. He was sitting in a stand with 2 doe under him and another hunter walked right up and set up near him. I usually like to let a week pass before I head out.

I just ordered it off of cabelas so I'm going to take a shot at using it this year. The reviews seemed decent on cabelas. -
I only lost 1 dear and it was my first deer that I shot. I shot it with the bow, got too excited and I believe went looking too soon and kept pushing it further and further away. Looked for 2 days and nothing.

My ladder stands stay up all year, but I check to make sure nothings broken or rusting away. I do agree with regretting to not take the seats off, this year I had to buy new seats for my stand since they either were eaten or blown away during some bad storms.

Has anyone ever used 'Border Crossing Ever Calm Deer Herd In A Stick'? I was watching a sportmen channel and they had a comercial for it. Just curious if anyone has used it and had any success with it. Here is the website for it: http://bordercrossingscents.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9

I don't believe first come, first serve would work. Don't forget there are still people taking the hunter education classes as we speak, so does that mean that they don't get a chance at a doe permit? I think in fairness the way it is now is the best way.
