  11. Seriously better re think your only 3. Go read buckmaster7600's post in Big woods thread about the 5 well placed shots the deer simply absorbed.
  12. Deer definitely looks startled by them as well. They are defiantly not houses in distance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Rolled it up tight and tied it closed and made a rope sling. Already carrying 30 pound backpack, 2 turkey strut chairs , slug gun, my jacket and hers tied to backpack. What's one more item. But daughter was warm , fed and had coffee lol. I felt like a pack mule.
  14. So from blind or stand is a good mile to car. Thru blow downs , beaver swamp , bunny brush and small creek. I constructed this drag out of a thick piece of canvas that used to be part of a golf dome. Added 3 grommets on either side and two towards front. I cinched deer into wrap and then ran a split tow rope thru front two grommets to deers head. Standard shoulder , chest harness and away I went. I couldn't believe how easy it made it. Don't think I ever hunched over , swore or had feet go out from under me. Heck I didn't stop more than a few seconds to enjoy the surroundings Glad I did this and suggest you guys think about making one to make your drag easier too.
  15. So daughter and I sitting by 6:15 this morning in our ground blind. At about 9 I stood up to take a leak. But of course a big juicy doe was standing off to our left at 25 yards. Daughter couldn't see it as she was sitting. Had hammer back on .44 hoping she'd see it but it slowly trotted off never flagging her tail. At about noon 2 deer come ripping in from the left again about 20' in front of us. Daughter couldn't as she tried get on one. I couldn't get the slug gun up either. Hand gun was sitting sitting atop my pack. One stopped but quartering away at 40 yards. She still couldn't get on it and as it turned to run again I dropped the hammer on the .44 It dropped right there in its tracks. Daughter got a tear as she thought she blew a chance. This happened all so fast I acknowledged. Now we walk up to doe. Ballz, literally 2 less than 3" spikes all dark and apparently hidden behind its ears as it boogied by. Thought for a moment I spent my buck tag but lucked out in that regard. Antlers were very dark and I checked teeth. All worn down. Buck in recession ? Don't know but certainly not the typical spike. Decent sized deer , venison in the freezer and my little hunting buddy was with me which made it that much better. My homemade venison burrito drag I made worked awesome. Mile drag was easy. Clothes in wash now , guns cleaned and oiled and going to give it another go in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Venison black bean chili waiting for me after hunting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. My pack is so heavy if I fell over on my back I'd look like a turtle who couldn't get back on its feet. I'll weigh it when I get home later.
  18. So every few years I gotta throw the same village idiot SOB out of here. Today's the day. He and his buddy smack dab in the middle of my brothers woods. One of them distinctly shot early and recently on brothers property. I left blind to throw them out. Claims to be tracking a deer he said. " your brother gave me permission for retrieval " he said. Show me a blood trail. And no response. Told them to leave the way they came in. If it was cold he wouldn't be out here. He's gotta go 450 pounds and can't zip his jacket shut. Few years ago I watched a Bambi bed down. They were on brothers property and I see them shoot Bambi. I walk up to them and he " says I just shot a big buck ". BS I told him. He gut shot the dink. So I just told him he should probably shoot his gun on paper as he's 0-2 in my book. Daughter and I in blind and waiting for the deer.
  19. So I stand up in blind. Big doe was 25 yards. Daughter couldn't see it. I had hammer back on .44 but was hoping she could get a shot but couldn't. She slowly meandered back the way she came. We've got a shrew in our blind.
  20. Alls quiet out here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. 7 turkeys just meandered by. At 40 yards they were calling and could barely hear them. So we see deer while turkey hunting and turkeys while deer hunting. Typical. Doesn't that just beat the band. Betcha we've heard 100 shots ring thru the hills so far. Been quiet lately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Dang , shot rang out on property line covering same trail as us. Cmon deer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
