1. you're right, steve. this is an 'apples to oranges' comparison. if comparing guns to cars is the best that the anti-gun control movement can come up with, it says a lot for the lack of rationale in their argument.
2. Dave, I clicked on the link that Burmjohn listed yesterday- that brought up the comments from Newsday readers that were printed in Newsday on the 28th and that your original post was referencing. In those comments, there was a link to the original article from the 22nd- this article was perfectly benign in my opinion. At the bottom of the page from the 28th, there are a bunch of comments from guys rebutting the comments from the anti-hunters.
3. I'm not a big fan of Newsday either. but, i think you guys are going a little off track. the original article, from April 22, was not slanted at all. the comments from readers that they printed on April 28 were slanted. but, aren't these exactly the types of comments that we would expect from the general public- especially here on long island? in fact, if you scroll down the page from the two negative comments, you'll see four more from people rebutting those comments. i'm not looking to start a big controversy- but, it seems to me that Newsday printed a decent informational article about the youth turkey hunt, and now we're slamming them for printing the comments that they received about the article. if Newsday was so 'liberal' and 'anti-hunting', they never would have printed the April 22 article in the first place.
4. Dumb question- why is a dryfire such a concern?
5. Holy geez. Any idea if the guy was OK? Remember that footage years ago of the guy that was hit with a javelin? Yikes.
6. Thanks G-man. I'm looking forward to next weekend.
7. Virgil, you should be listen for birds right at dusk. Usually in the first week of Sping Gobbler its between 8 to 815. I will usually sit in a field and listen. I wear my turkey vest and take a seat around 745 and will sit and listen until its totally dark. Try to stay out of the woods if you can. 9 times of 10 birds will roost half way up a hill or right on the edge of a field, but don't get discouraged if you don't hear one. There has been many times where I have listened the night before and then the next morning I go back to the same spot and I hear turkeys gobbling all over. I have noticed this especially in NY. I just can not seem to roost birds in NY. Thanks a lot. That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for- I'll give it a try. I've seen plenty of turkeys on my land during bow season. So, I'm hoping for a good start at turkey hunting. I've got a slate call that I've been playing around with. Thanks again.
8. I'm also new to turkey hunting and have been looking forward to picking up some advice from you guys. One question- when you talk about 'roosting birds', what time of evening or night are you guys referring to? Should i be in the woods listening for birds late at night, or closer to dusk?
9. sounds to me like you did the right thing and shouldn't feel the slightest guilt about it.
10. Looking forward to hearing how you did. Good luck.
11. Did either of you two actually see the ceremony? The fool on the radio is lying, in case you're interested. I wonder if he actually watched the ceremony either. Look at the actual footage on youtube. The room is broken into three sections. It looks as though the recipient's family and fellow soldiers are in the section to the right. Politicians are in the section to the left. The statements about his family and fellow troops being seated behind 'political cronies' is just meant to get you boys riled up. I've seen on a number of other forums where guys have started this same rant and then later apologized after seeing the actual footage of the ceremony and learning that they were mislead....again.
12. But they are not letting me know anything about the substance of the posts. Only that they are unhappy I posted it by resorting to insults and personal comments, non of which give any clue as to what you guys think on the issues. Here's something I will tell you about where people like me are coming from that can be discussed at great length as well. As a matter of fact, all of my posts are coming to you from this viewpoint. Our view is that liberalism is a mental disorder characterized by narcissism, victimhood and paranoia. Its end result will be the apocalyptic Nanny State and a long, slow collapse into third world status. Like I said, not to be taken seriously. But they are not letting me know anything about the substance of the posts. There is no substance to most of the things you post- it's pure paranoid propaganda. That's why they are not dignified with a response. Our view is that liberalism is a mental disorder characterized by narcissism, victimhood and paranoia. Its end result will be the apocalyptic Nanny State and a long, slow collapse into third world status. Just comical. Again, not worth dignifying with a response.
13. he wants to be attacked. it makes his sense of paranoia feel justified.
14. i can't be bothered addressing the specifics of the nonsense that you post- it's so absurd that it doesn't deserve a response. and, stop trying to play victim. your tactic is simply to sling mud and see if any of it sticks- and, you have a group on these forums who eat it up. then, you're quick to go on the defense and claim that you're being attacked the second anyone calls you out. and, exactly what would i be 'sulking' about?
15. another propaganda article from another 'reliable source' presented as fact- you really are a broken record. and a picture suggesting that our President should be compared to Hitler and Stalin- you really should be ashamed of yourself. now you're just showing yourself to be a complete crackpot not worthy of being acknowledged.
16. This group is decidedly Leftist and if you trace their history of political affiliations, it is more than obvious. That's probably true. But, are they any more slanted to the left than all of your sources are to the right? You can't expect to be taken seriously when you want to disregard someone else's propaganda while promoting your own as 'facts'.
17. Is that the doorman at the hospital? No. But, if you're looking for a career boost, i can see if they have any openings down there. What do you do for a living, smartass?
18. I actually would also like to know what you do Virgil. I'd also value your views because you should be "in the know". I'm the director of a clinical department that provides both inpatient and outpatient services. Sorry, can't get too specific.
19. Quote from: virgil on Today at 12:29:49 pm
Virgil did you say you work for a hospital? Yes.
As a patient? Dave Was that supposed to be clever?
20. Do you really have the inability to admitt that the post VJP made right out of te law are facts? Did you even bother to look at them and consider them. Or is the real reason for you blind support that you ...your family...or your circles would be the ones that are benefiting from this program. Some of the bullet points that he listed are not in dispute. The points that are paraphrased and misrepresented are the ones that imply that the government will be deciding how much doctors will earn (currently, Medicare already determines rates anyway), and that the government is going to ration care, and the nonsense referring to 'death panels'- these are not facts. They are paraphrased summaries made by someone who opposes the legislation and posted by someone else who is in agreement with the author- that does not make them fact. These are intentional distortions meant to rile people up.
21. you're a broken record. you're too busy ranting that the world is coming to an end to see that it's actually just passing you by. at least you'll always have these forums where you can find enough people who agree with you and make you feel validated.
22. i posted that article to show you that there are plenty of articles and opinions on the other side of the argument. i've never read the huffington post in my life. it's as uselessly biased as all the sources that you use. that was exactly my point. you keep referring to everything that you post as 'facts'. in fact, you've only posted opinions, paraphrases, and speculation.
23. VJP, once again you're boring and predictable. More confusion between facts and opinions and more postings of the same opinions misrepresented as facts. And, of course, all coming from sources whose positions are known to be similar to yours. You're a bit of a one-trick pony. If you can force yourself to read an editorial from another perspective, i've attached this one... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/stephen-m-davidson/why-support-the-imperfect_1_b_736877.html
24. vjp, i didn't call everyone on this thread inaccurate. i called you inaccurate and pointed out that all you do is continuously post comments made by people whose opinion is the same as yours and make believe that this is 'evidence' that your position is the only reasonable one. and, in an effort to prove me wrong, you go ahead and do it again. all you've done this time is post the paraphrased words of an opponent to the law- still doesn't prove anything, nothing directly outo of the law. your personal attacks are just another attempt to rally your troops on this thread. i never claimed to know the bill backward and forward, and neither should you.
