  1. Thank you Paula. I wanted to stop at 40 but these birthdays just keep happening. At least I still get gifts !
  2. I just ground several pounds this week. I freeze the cuts I want to grind in a freezer bag and grind it after thawing and trimming anything that is white off the meat.I made a meatloaf and cooked it in tinfoil on my grill the other evening when it was 90 something degrees out.I have never re-froze the ground venison so I don't know how it would be that way.
  3. I hunted weekends several times too on Whiting last year in the afternoons.I was surprised that I was able to get away from most of the hikers but I could hear some people talking. I actually watched a buck chase a doe there last year one weekend afternoon .
  4. How is the morning on Whiting rd ? Are there many non-hunters during the week ?
  5. Ha, I know what you mean Larry I dislike the glow tacks on public property,Letchworth is full of them too. I also don't like when people leave the plastic marking strips tied to trees until it falls off eventually. There are numerous trails cut by the town so I don't mark any and I prefer hunting the afternoon so I can see.I may try mornings this year I will have to see what is available.
  6. I agree pewlodar the money is minimal I get bothered by the lack of recognition that hunters receive as management of deer populations though. I agree I would spend much more driving elsewhere and there are numerous car/deer collisions in Webster so I would rather have one in my freezer.Good luck this year.
  7. I agree it isn't perfect but it is close to home and I wouldn't be able to hunt Webster otherwise.I see plenty of deer on the town properties, some are much too tame for my liking. The deer seem used to seeing people but cautious nonetheless just as they are in my neighborhood. The last two seasons I have not been bothered by anyone.I don't mind reducing some of the deer numbers in the town so I will see.
  8. I am registered this year. This is my 3rd year. I wasn't happy to see the $10 fee this year but I know if I hunt there enough I will recoup the money in gas saved.I am hoping to spend more time on the town land this season but I do like Letchworth too.A friend of mine moved so I lost one hunting spot this year. There are many deer in Webster and in the town properties so we will see.
  9. Reminds me of the time my dear departed uncle drew my cousin's bow back and hit the release trigger somehow sending the arrow through the garage window. Fortunately there was just an overgrown field for a very long way behind the garage.
  10. If I laugh out loud will the Government take my guns away ?
  11. Happy birthday Fasteddie. You put much younger hunters I know to shame !
  12. The fawn in that picture is newborn. I had a fawn with spots hanging out in my yard for about 3 days in early June. The fawn was back this morning, I could not believe how few spots were left and how much It had grown.I had to get to work or I would have taken a picture.I hope the one above can survive the year.
  13. My one and only big buck.Opening day of firearm in the southern zone (8F) 2005. Had the antlers scored after they were mounted, 132 gross / 130 net. I regret not having a full head mount done but I didn't have the dinero at the time.My buddy likes to tell me when he comes over how I should have had a mount done.I also didn't have time to weigh him but he is the biggest bodied deer I have ever killed too.Nice bucks everyone!
  14. Man,look at all those racks ! I hope they are near the spot you checked out.
  15. That is wild grape Fantail the deer were eating some of the leaves. Ivy I have growing in a circular area in my back yard that the deer like to lay in.That big 8 was camera shy he stayed behind a lilac and a pine tree of course.
  16. I have not had any deer like this visit before.Residential neighborhood so no hunting for a mile at least I am guessing. The larger bodied deer is an 8 pt. and the other buck is a 10 or 11 pt.He has 3 browtines but not sure how long.He even fertilized the lawn for me.Look closely you can see the red summer coat is almost changed over to the brown winter coat.
  17. I was at my local store last night. I bought ONE 40 round box of .22 's because only one "unit" per customer per day.So if you buy one 500 round box that is one unit or one 40 round box is considered one unit. Guess what unit sells out first ? I am in favor of a limit but 2 or 3 of the 40 round units makes more sense to me.
  18. What a nice night with your son.I had a similar experience once at a Bills game.Free tickets that were in the Jim Kelly Club area I believe it is called. It was a nice surprise.
  19. I have taken a handful of deer with Thunderheads. No problems passing through broadside with carbon arrows and my old compound bow at about 55-60 lbs.. Mine were mostly doe not past 30 yards.I will buy more Thunderheads, in fact I think I will check on-line right now.....
  20. Happy Birthday, enjoy your dinner and beverages.
  21. Tried for 2 for 8M even though I knew the second was low chance.I received one and bought my bow and muzzleloader tags so I have more than enough tags for this year. Hopefully my new bow and scope on the muzzleloader will be put to good use.
