PA's deer numbers are down... to a level the habitat can support! I've read the reminiscent stuff sour PA hunters have said about the way it used to be- seeing 20+ deer at a time. That's all they've ever known. Now they see a deer or 2 per sit and think the herd has been destroyed. In reality the herd is a lot healthier and is the way it should be. Guys like Gary Alt are highly educated in wildlife management. In fact he has a PHD in it. I'm going to have to trust his judgement over any number of hunters. Would you rather have a committee of Grey's Anatomy fanatics directing your open heart surgery or the guy that spent 20 years of actual training?

I remembered the scoring system correctly, but those big ears really throw things off. I agree that the forks are a little weak as are the G4s. Still a nice buck.

The "tree" is a red cedar I cut and stuck in the ground so they can rub it and make a scrape under the branch. I thought the one deer was rubbing it but it appears he was just feeding. The food plot was planted with oats, winter peas, crimson clover, and ladino clover in mid-august.

I get 148 without the abnormal points. I really have no experience judging mule deer.

This guy and his buddies seem to be on the move. They suddenly appeared 3/4 mile away from where I last caught them.

145-150 mainframe 8

Nets are for fish!

The 20" are in there! You gave him a score of 154 Popit. I get 152 in my estimate. Follow the math: G1s 10 x 2= 20 (agree) G2s 10 x 2= 20 (i say they are 11) G3s 6 x 2= 12 (agree) MBs 23 x 2 = 46 (agree) Mass 36 (32 for me because he is an 8 Spread 20 (sure, why not) Add it up... Those brows are a game changer. That buck is about as good as it gets for a NY 8. I was struck by how much he reminds me of the buck in my avatar. He would have been right at 150 if was an 8.

Spotted this in Michigan. I could come up with captions for this all day..

There used to be elk on Whitney park in the 20s and 30s when my great grandad was a caretaker there. They died off due to harsh winters. They looked into introducing polar bears too but luckily decided not to.

I am missing my first CT season in several years.

I have had a doe behind my house that regularly has had triplets for several years now.

My brother accidently bumped 2 past me a few years ago in the Adks. At first I wondered why there were horses trotting through the woods. Didn't take me long to figure it out though.

What do you store your gear in?

I had plano totes from home depot. They seem to produce their own stank so i will not be using them any more. -

I use plastic tool boxes made by Stanley. They have wheels on one end and are more sturdy than the average tote. I seal up any holes with duct tape and put gasket material around the rim of the lid. You can get them at Home Depot. -
Can we build a list of hunting shows that feature high-fence hunts so I can avoid them? Who were the guys in the 90s that were caught tagging farm deer as wild deer for a hunting show?

I would let him go another year or so.

Late born yearling buck? I had one come by last year that just had 2 polished nubs for antlers.

Do you have any other pics of him? I'm pretty sure he's easy 130's now. He has exceptional mass.
-
What buck in the background? I have trouble seeing past the one in the front.

Doew- I have shot a lot over the years as well. I like to do it to remind my body how everything is supposed to feel. I think I got the idea from one of the many useful Terry Wunderle articles.
-
Anyone else do this? I've been shooting 30 arrows a night for a few weeks now with my eyes closed. It allows me to focus on how the shot should feel. I actually attach my release, draw, and shoot all with my eyes closed. (I do open them to verify that I will hit my target somewhere) I find it makes it a lot easier to do all of these things when hunting. Makes it automatic.

That's why my target has 12 spots on it now. Robinhooded one a few years ago and was not at all happy about it.
