  1. Too bad to sell them, but perhaps he needed the money. Doesn't sound like he was really into antlers anyway. Glad to see B+C use their heads. Embarassing that they would fire 2 long-time much-respected scorers because they disagreed with a ruling.
  2. Pretty much- I cut one tree down and cut it in half. The angled "post" was the top. I tried to find some cedar posts to buy but couldn't find any. Next year I may have to replace the branches, but the post will hopefully still be good.
  3. It appears that B+C has changed their stance. Nyantler- I'm sure you will be interested in this article. http://www.deerandde...47&rid=68358559
  4. Here's a good discussion about the Climb Paws I found on Archerytalk: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1022484
  5. Thanks guys. I will likely order the climb paws as I have not found or designed anything better so far. I thinkl Ameristep used to have plastic strap-on steps but recalled them due to breaking. Seems they could make a metal one with a thick plastic coating?
  6. Believe it or not I saw 2 fresh scrapes while mowing/fertilizing a clover plot...
  7. Amen Phade. I can't tell you how many nice bucks I've had on the cam in velvet only to have them vanish when they shed it. At the same time be ready for new bucks to show up mid-September.
  8. We started chopping tuesday and most of the neighbors started this week too. We shoot for 35% dry matter for silage and when its ready you have to get it before it gets too dry. The warm spring and dry summer made the corn mature a little earlier. We're about a week ahead of normal.
  9. Growing up in CT we almost always had a bachelor group of bucks feeding on a huge patch of Jewel Weed down the hill from our farm.
  10. Nice deer. I remember LL Rue III writing about deer working sticks and stubs at that height. Hard to notice. I would be interested to see what other action you get there.
  11. Cedar is not all that common. There is one spot where there are 10-15 mature trees. The idea is to put a licking branch and possible rub tree in a conspicuous spot. The bucks can't seem to be able to resist it. I read about it in a Steve Bartylla article a few years ago. I didn't use any scent. It appears that the opportunity is enough and now that bucks have worked the set there is all the scent i need.
  12. The 1stheifer 8 pt is decent. That last buck is the one i have the most hope for that last one-12 pts as a 2 yr old.
  13. You mean "Beauty is in the eye of the BEERholder"
  14. I use one of those plastic coated screw in hooks in my garage. Should be able to find them in the same aisle as ratchet straps at HD.
  15. Growalot- I guess if I stay on the right side of the law I'll never have to worry about it?
  16. Good deal. NYantler- I'm a little surprised they don't have different classes of felonies- violent and non-violent. Perhaps there could be a distinction between the 2 as far as gun ownership. At the same time I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone with a felony conviction.
  17. Phade- thanks for the praise. As far as scent control goes- the one problem with running it through a washing machine is the "whale tail" is riveted to the piece of aluminum in the seat and the seat fabric is sandwiched between the two. If I remove the rivets and replace them with small bolts I could remove the whale tail and the aluminum piece and probably run it through the wash. It could also be washed by hand. The only absorbent part of the whole thing is the foam in the seat which can be removed via a velcro opening. I usually run my Tree Saddle through the wash a few times per season. The whale tail did bump my legs as I ascended the tree at times- I'm thinking that if I did replace the rivets with bolts I will be able to rotate it out of the way when not in use. I'm pretty sure there are no safety implications, but will eaxmine it further. The linemans belt goes up the tree fine. I usually lift it up onto the next tree step before I lift my foot up. I don't usually "flip" the belt up the back of the tree rather than slide it, especially if on a rough-barked tree. Hope this helps. -Sam
  18. The infrared flash makes red and orange (think summer coat) appear white or almost white.
