  1. If you want to see them IN the roost, your gonna have to look early. If they don't come by right away, give a crow call or a turkey call and try to locate them. Just don't mess with them too much before next week if you know where they usually roost.
  2. One test? How about false positive. ONE sample. That's not statistical enough for me. Either way, its natures way....its natures way.
  3. I use a 22 Hornet. Love to kill woodchucks for the landowner
  4. Thanks to all for the replies. It is what it is in the end. I will post the shit out of it, and talk to the neighbor to ask permission to recover deer on his land and start a conversation to find out if he hunts my land. Like I said, theres plenty of deer to go around, but if I want to leave my land "quiet" for a week or 10 days, I need to know others aren't just ruining it all for me. Yep, first year will be a lot of telling people to beat it. I don't want to get into any legal BS so I just hope Im not dealing with total bad guys. Like some have said, and I agree, Im open to a good relationship with a neighbor, WITH limitations of course. Like no hunting when Im there! That will be the opening week and many weekends. One good thing is..its early, I have all summer to get my point across with signs and info gathering. And yes, I will have many cameras out, so Ill know whos still screwing with me. Thanks for the input..I see this is quite common.
  5. G man, if I owned I wouldn't feel as bad. But Im hoping I don't find y truck or camper f...cked with. I would do the same as you and let the people who ask ,Im would even welcome a "local" on my lease to be my eyes when Im not there. My lease is for 5 hunters. And of course I have all my buddies on there, but in the coming years Id be open to a local hunter being included. I made the notes to leave with the stands, and laminated them, Ill tie wrap them to the stands and see what happens.
  6. I can see its gonna be a tough first year on my lease. I leased a nice 150 acres of crops and woods in Oneida County. I went out to scout the land for the first time and meet the owner. Upon inspection, it seemed like every time I thought I found a good area...I would look up, and theres a tree stand. Some very old wooden ones and a few new ones. Problem is the land has not been properly posted in the past so people are hunting there and the owner doesn't even know it. That's only because hes not a hunter, hes a grain farmer. The leasing agent said I might spend the first year kicking people out, but it will get better in time. I agree somewhat, but its the police work I could do without. Ive hunted a long time and the last thing I wanna do is have people...Hunters...prosecuted for trespassing But..Ive paid good money for the exclusive hunting rights. By the looks of the deer trails and the ones I saw, theres plenty of deer around, but Id hate to have one of these pirates shoot the BIG BUCK out there. Right? So...what do I do..The landowner does not want those hunters using 4 wheelers on his land, but they do anyways .He doesn't have time to police the land which is somewhat remote from the main road. I found a clearly beaten path headed right for the neighbors house. So ,do I go over there and be the bad guy and tell them to please stay out and obey the POSTED signs Ill put up. And also ask if the stands out there belong to him, and then ask him to get them out of there. Oh yea..and then I have to turn around and ask him if I can chase a wounded deer on his property if necessary. Its all a delicate situation. All I know is Im not gonna make a lot of friends. What Im gonna do is take the tree stands down, and leave them at the base of the tree with a note that basically says stay out. I will however leave my # and tell them that if they call me, we can talk about me putting them on the lease in the future. So..how would you react to going to your tree stand, and finding it nicely placed at the base of the tree with the note saying your done hunting here. I say it sucks. But..I will also say, that when I see Posted signs, especially nice new ones, I stay out. I don't enjoy hunting , looking over my shoulder all the time. Oh yea...and what if I run into these deer hunters with stands on my lease out there during turkey season? I know Ill be there. I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or experiences with this please.
  7. Those things sell all the time on e-bay too. It looks good, so maybe it could bring good cash
  8. My friend had a game camera on a Coyote den last spring in PA. The mother dragged 9 fawns down the hole to feed them over the course of the spring. None are left to make the truck pile.
  9. Im with Arrow Flinger on this. It makes Archers out of Gun hunters. If you want to bow hunt, grab a bow. To me its all about the Optics. If you shoot a Bow you need to practice a lot more, so don't be lazy. Im all for it for disabled people who need the help. Last year I went out to Bow hunt with my friend in PA. When I got there, him and his friends were all shooting Crossbows and I had my Hoyt Maxxis 31. I was like ...what the F, I thought we were Bow hunting. As I age I too may have to make the switch in order to still shoot pointy sticks.,but it wont be till I cant shoot my bow I think. But that's just me, a stubborn old school type.
  10. Larry, I really don't know how you came up with that opinion based on what I said. Of course we use modern equipment now, As I said...follow along now...starts with hand tools, then spears, then bow and arrow...and now.....Compound bows. Where does it say Im any better than him. Personally Id rather close the distance between me and deer with brains and skill, not making up the distance with a bullet. That being said, yes I also muzzy and gun hunt just as the other guy said.
  11. Maybe because we think Bowhunting is the purest form of hunting as it was when Indians and such had to get close to their quarry to kill it. It went from hand tools to spears and then the Bow and arrow. I like it because its the most challenging hunting, where you need to do more to get inside the animals "comfort zone" to earn a shot. I don't like the animal suffering part, but I also know that if I put in the time to practice, I will make an ethical shot which I owe to the animal.
  12. I like baiting for a full moon. bait a few nights ahead at the same time, early eve. And the full moon night, be waiting in your tree stand. They usually send in a scout yote first, then he goes away, and then the whole bunch of them will come in. That is if there is a pack of them. I also find that they like fresh meat, Not rotten meat .A Coyote is not a scavenger, he wants to kill his meal. Blast em all
  13. Catskill, something tells me you weren't so lucky?
  14. well because I was looking for information , not judgement day.
  15. Oh boy...I was told you could..but not during hunting season? Whats the deal...?
  16. He gonna be scrambling for his life there. Maybe that works? Until he gets crushed
  17. now that's a good read. let me know when the book comes out.
  18. Nice Bucks. Great forum here, welcome
  19. wrap the head and neck in a moist cloth, then lay the feathers and tail flat and freeze it in a garbage bag. Double bagged. Then bring it frozen to the taxidermist.
  20. All good points. Yes deer will feed ahead of low pressure because they know whats coming. I agree with a few of you who like to be out in the tree when the storm breaks. Nothing like the end of the storm when everything starts moving around again. Ill go out in any weather, the only one that really pisses me off is wind. Windy days are the only ones that can keep me in the house. Ive finally learned NOT to hunt certain stands when the wind is wrong. Even tho I want to...its better not to in the long run Better to have multiple stands in case of any wind direction. Im also one of those guys who can tel weather change by the pain in my knees. sucks.
