  1. UPDATE Pics from this week of 'My Boy". Finally got the right feed block in the woods, I had 430 pics in 6 days. A few smaller bucks, and a few does. But its this guy that Im after. Got some daytime pics this week. The tines are growing and hes a few inches wider than last year. I took the advice of NFA-ADK and watched the video. Today I put the camera up to 7 feet and put it on video for the week. Im gonna do like last year, try to only change chips once a week to try and stay out of there. Enjoy.
  2. One more shot of the buck. Just a week, and the tine length has doubled. hes wise to the camera tho. One shot this time and he took off. I may need a better camera at this spot, that wont spook him as much.
  3. First of all, this is in New Hampshire. Its a Big and J block, and I know its the same deer because of the hundreds of pics I have of him. His rack will have a small kicker off the G2 on the right. I found one of his sheds 2 seasons ago. The one with the same kicker as last year. Its him. Look at that sag of the back.
  4. Its gonna be all about growing the tine length now. I forgot how tall he was last year till I just looked at this post. I gotta get this dude.
  5. This is the 4th year in a row I have this deer on camera. Hes at least a 5.5 years old I would say now. Last year on the second day of the season he walked out of the woods, looked right up at me as if someone told him I was there, then bobbed his head once and walked right back where he came from. Problem was...I was caught sitting down and couldn't move. I figured I wouldn't push it ,being it was only the second day of Bow season. Well....I never saw him again till right now back on the camera. last year I told my friend Ill get a chance at him the first week....or in the rut. I was right. I guess Il say it again...I either get him early, or the rut. The rest hes too smart for. This is his best rack yet. Its always been a nice 8 pointer, but its now a lot wider. The last picture is from last year.
  6. God Bless and thank him for us. This is not a political posting sits in trees, don't make it one.
  7. They are great for late season or after that first now. The deer know they are there, they seem to save them for later here in NH.
  8. I buy bonus points in Iowa for archery for a future hunt
  9. Yea, that's the trick Sampotter. Another taxidermist turned me onto the Gesso, PP method years ago. It always scares you to paint them white with Gesso first, and then putting purple water on them. You would never think they would come out looking like bone, but it does. Just have to be careful for runs because they become darker than the rest.
  10. Wooly is right. Potassium permanganate. get it at a plumbing store. Mix up about a teaspoon in water. It turns Purple. Each coat you put on gets them darker and darker. Just don't go wild. Everywhere your brush goes will make it a shade darker, if you make a drip on them, that will be darker...I do taxidermy and this is how I restore the color to antlers. Ive done deer and caribou with this stuff. If the horns are unequally discolored, you can put a coat of Gesso on them. Its sold in wal mart in the crafts section. This will make the horns equal, and ready to receive the Potassim P
  11. Nice to hear when things are good, not just bad. That's where us Hunters and family men stand apart from the crowd who think negativity is News. Appreciation for what we have and have created in the case of children. Rock on.
  12. Trespassing is trespassing. I have a new lease this year with deer stands all over it. Once I tell the owners of those stands to get the stands out and stay out, that's their only warning. After that I will have them arrested every time I catch them. Im sorry, but the excuse that "ive been hunting here for years" isn't going to work with me. The same has happened to me and I found a new place to hunt. Leasing is the future if you don't own land. Trespassing is just a slap in the face because I know they can read the 100 posted signs I put up. I wont shoot people with paintballs, but I will make sure they never shoot another deer on my lease.
  13. Racks look the SAME to me. taxidermy can do the rest.
  14. They don't do a tree much good either.
  15. I too have a 4 wheeler and I haver the owners permission to use it for work, not play. Like putting out stands and recovering a deer. I care less about them than I do poachers. Ill tell them to get out, but poachers will be prosecuted. Yes, maybe we will indeed be helping each other out with me being there and LEGAL. This kid in the message above is the one who called me. His family used to own this land. As Ive said, Im looking for someone out there to be included on my hunting lease, but they have to also be willing to do the police work for the good of the lease too. Time will tell if it will be worth it in the end. Otherwise Ill just leave town after the season with a bunch of new stands if the poachers leave them in there. We'll see....
  16. Let her swim as soon a possible. But DONT force it on her. Play at the waters edge and let her explore the water. You don't want her to be afraid of it. My last pup actually fell into the pond the first time, went right under, came up shaking her head, and I couldn't keep her out of the water or a mud hole for the next 12 years.
  17. I have aleady met one neighbor. I went over to ask permission to recover game on their land. I also met the guy who leases behind me. He the one who told me that everyone who goes to hunt my land just throws the landowner name out there like their buddies and hunts. The access is whats in my favor. Theres one road in and when my truck is there, people will know to stay out. Other than that they have to ask permission to cross other peoples land to get to mine. But as we all know..they don't ask, they just hunt. Maybe ill just hunt this one year, get my 3 deer and leave town with a lot of new hunting stands?? No, I like this piece, its full of deer now and they haven't even had fawns yet. Its gonna kill me to let that nice 2.5 yr old buck pass, only to have somebody else shoot it on MY lease. The times I want to let my land sit quiet before I hunt it are times I really don't want other people out there stirring it up. hard to manage land that you don't live on.
  18. Thanks for the replies. Yea, the DEC wont want anything to do with my problem. Im gonna post the hell out of it. Not sure if I want to leave my number or not. Someone made a good point. If I take a stand down and leave a note on it, whats gonna stop someone else from taking it and they will think I did. I don't want to be the out of stater coming in and ruining the hunting party, but I did pay for the hinting rights. The land owner cant even allow relatives to hunt it. Its all in the lease. But for years, people just throw the owners name out there as if they know him and hunt it. Its gonna kill me to be all set in my stand opening day morning and start seeing flashlights coming thru the woods to these stands. That's when I will let them know in person to stay out. I will have cameras too, so Ill know whos there. Everyone gets a first warning, then It gets ugly. Which I would rather avoid. Ill give it a shot this year, but If this bullshit is bad...Ill just wont renew the lease. In which case the Pirates, the trespassers, the hunters who just don't get it, will win. I guess Ownership is the only way to go with hunting land. Then I am the law.
  19. So as I mentioned earlier in a post, this is my first year leasing a 150 acre piece in NY. So I went out to turkey hunt the first few days, figuring deer hunters would also be hunting turkey there. Well I didn't run into anyone yet but my Tree Stand count is now at 10. Just walking around scouting my land I have found 5 lock ons with screw ins and 5 ladder stands, of course mostly right where I had pegged as a good spot. This land hasn't been posted in years ,well not really...all the Posted signs have been ripped down or at least Ignored. I started posted the shit out of it, but I have no dilusiions that I can drive off all the Pirates on my lease. But its thwe tree stands that I have to deal with first. Heres my choices..what do you say? I could take them all down and leave them at the base of the tree with a note to basically stay out! or I could leave them up and use the frigging things when I go out there. I mean, they are all in great spots. Then when the owner of the stand comes and Im in his stand...I'M IN THE RIGHT..correct? MY land, then tell them to stay out. Third option, I could take them down and give them al to the local game warden and leave a note to tell them where to get their stand back. And then have the warden tell them to stay out. Or I could take the bottom section of the stands and leave a note with my number and have them call me for their stand. That way I have their name and contact info. But I really don't want to start out by taking anybodys stuff. Even if its on my lease land. Question...will these hunters not be back til opening day?? Or will they be out there to scout their stands and see my notes I left to take them out. And do it before the season? I dunno..but this is going to be a shitty year of booting people who have hunted there before I ever did, but hey...Leasing is the wave of the future and present of deer hunting if you don't own. So...think twice before you try hunting on land that is clearly Posted! How fun can that be when you have to look over your shoulder all the time.. because...Im coming!!
  20. inject with formaldehyde. That's the best and most long term way. I do it on my taxidermy birds
  21. It sure is. Ive killed many with mine. 45 grain hollowpoints do the trick. Its a nice fast flat shooting round.
  22. Im with ya Brother. Whack em good.
  23. Sounds like your all set as long as the birds do their part and show up. Have a great time and post the pics when you get one.
