  1. Check out fieldsupply. They often have really big discounts on stuff. I remember seeing some rain gear sale a while back with lots of brands around 70% off Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. They sell it at walmart. Check it out first. Poor durability, it's like a cheap cloth material that reminds me of those $1 reusable bags at grocery store Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I had a few close calls but long story short nothing. It was hard getting a clear shot where they were, you had to get to like 20 yards. My buddy shot a real nice 6x6 330" bull in my spot when I was walking up the mountain with him. It was a heck of an experience. Definitely will be back there in the future Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I just went through the process of shopping for rain gear for my archery elk hunt in the Rockies. Long story short finding quiet rain gear is difficult. Finding quiet rain gear that is breathable and waterproof is near impossible. Either way after testing a ton of brands, I settled on the Badlands Alpha rain jacket and pants. Their Exo rain gear is more lightweight and packable. It's amazingly quiet and saved my butt in the Rockies for 3 days of nonstop rain/snow/hail Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. With that said, I have really liked first lite base layers. NOTHING beats merino base layers. I have plenty of UA base layers and they are warm but they stink real bad and I sweat bad in it. Merino is wayyyy better for warmth, comfort, and odor control. Sitka outer layers are awesome. I think their fanatic line is way over priced for what it is, might as well get some Berber fleece stuff from cabelas. I bought some of the first lite sanctuary stuff this year because I like ASAT pattern stuff and got it on a good sale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I recently went on an archery elk hunt to Idaho and got into the expensive top of the line gear. Honestly I don't see the use of Sitka, Kuiu, or Firstlite for deer hunting here as much as it's useful out west. Here you can dry out your gear and usually aren't stuck in the woods all week at a time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I normally wouldn't, but when it's college hour and it's time to really drink it's goes down faster with a splash
  8. Ohh, and the new Red Stag with cinnamon is really good with Coke. I can't stand fireball either because it's like candy. This stuff is good though because it still tastes like whiskey
  9. When I think of bourbon I think of too much money. My classy nights consist of a bottle of Crown or Jameson. Nothing goes down smoother than crown and Coke or Jameson and ginger ale. Never had any of Glenfiddich* or whatever it's called apart from staring at the price tags at the liquor store. I'm 22.
  10. I have found a lot of solid buying options. The Marlin forums has been a big help. I hope I'll like it as much as I think I will
  11. If anyone has or knows of someone who would like to sell their gun, I've been looking for one but would rather buy a local one and see it in person rather than over an online auction. Email or PM me what you have, please include condition, year (or Serial #), and price. Pictures are a plus too. Thanks. [email protected]
  12. Yeah it wasn't too far off the road thankfully, walking the shelfs on the lower side.
  13. hahaha yeah, I broke a sweat as I was driving all the deer toward you I went back last weekend and got a nice doe Sunday. I have to pick her up at the processors tomorrow [emoji39]
  14. I thought the super X's were Winchester's rifled slugs.
  15. I pretty much agree. 90% of hunting I do is under 125 yards. But one farm I hunt has lots of fields and its in Onondaga county, so the extra range is nice.I totally agree with you though. That's why I go back and forth which to use. I want to try the partition golds in my shotgun next year if they shoot good. I've only read amazing things about them. Meanwhile, hornady reviews are good mostly but with an alarming amount of bad expansion reviews
  16. I've had good performance on deer with the lightfield hybrids. I switched to the hornady SST because they shoot much flatter and extend my range with the shotgun. I've been contemplating trying the Winchester partition golds. Supposedly they are devastating on deer and shoot good. Hornadys shoot good but I've heard they aren't so good on terminal ballistics. I'd rather have a good shooting slug but know for sure that it will drop a deer effectively and that's what I've heard they partition golds offer.
  17. I learned my lesson. It took two close calls, but one thing I'll always remember that your broadhead can shoot even when you don't expect it, always keep it pointed in a safe direction incase it does.
  18. Not gunna lie... I've had two "misfires" using my bow. Once at an archery range, and once in the stand. The time in the stand, I drew back on a 6pt, then decided not to take it and let it grow.... Well I just tapped my release with my finger as I tried to put it behind the trigger to let down my draw. The time at the range, I was being irresponsible/complacent and drew the bow back with my finger infront of the release trigger. Just a small nudge sent the arrow, luckily the bow was down range and near the target, but I lost that arrow to say the least. It is important to note though that I use a Spot Hogg wiseguy release, and the trigger pull is seriously light. It just takes a little nudge to send it.
  19. Maybe I'm way off but when I think of big game and long range, I think of .300win mag or wsm. Designed for long-range shooting with its flat trajectory and can be easily shot with 180gr bullets compared to the smaller alternatives of the .270/308 you've suggested... Just my input. Yet if you read online you'll hear plenty of people say "you can even shoot a polar bear with a .243. It's shot placement, not size." I'll take my odds though with a larger round (given the same shot Placement, which should be consistent upon the shooter).
  20. I think for the most part they are very similar. Just seeing if anyone had input. I think they both have the 2nd and 3rd axis adjustment. Either will be an upgrade from what I have. Neither have the micro-adjustment that I'm aware of.
  21. I have a harness made by gorilla and love it. Heavy duty and the buckles are convenient. I don't have anything bad to say about it.
  22. Well I found a heck of a deal on Lancastersrchery, there was a Viper Venom 5 pin on clearance 50% off, and an Axion Vue 5 pin sight that was over 50% off. After calling my friend, we both decided to buy them as I've been looking to replace the same sight I've had on my bow since I bought it 4 years ago. My buddy said he doesn't care which one he takes, it's my choice. So which one would you chose? I've heard good things about Viper sights and not much about Axion.
  23. I've hunted the 7 region for a while and even though there are big deer, there is a lot of hunters and not all that much land. Especially lacking is the agriculture surrounding the public land. From my experience, the biggest deer I've ever seen was south east of Geneseo. In just one day, I shot the biggest buck in my life (respectable 10pt but nothing record holding or anything), saw countless doe, a 6pt, and a buck that looked like fricken one of santas reindeer. So for me, I'd go with the region west/southwest of the finger lakes.
  24. haha or bark up someone else's tree *stand. But in all honesty, I'm not looking to hunt other people's properties. This is a hunting forums where we all have a common interest (hunting) I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes. I was just posting out of I guess frustration and seeking advice from you older, more experienced folks. It seems getting permission now a days being new to an area is really hard (duh).
  25. I've actually called them. They recommended braddocks bay. Nothing else really around here unfortunately. I guess I can't be picky but in my situation as a double major in biology and healthcare administration I have virtually no spare time apart from studying and school work. I was trying to find something in a close proximity of Brockport so I have a place to go before/after classes or on the weekend before studying. Maybe I'll get lucky with a landowner or strike up conversation with someone in town. *fingers crossed*
