  1. i think they are back together after mom went off to breed
  2. take photos w/ gps onInclude his back tag, and always ask to de chamber the gun/empty the bullets when escorting them off.
  3. One of those rare days (3H) where I looked forward to climbing down the tree to help my dad out with some chores. Cold and quiet, counted 4 beds from my stand, as sun came up. Hunting private land, heard a buck grunt (tending I think, 5 relatively short equally spaced grunts-only done once I think it was a deer vs. a person). One cool thing about this snow is you can go and confirm what you thought you saw through all the trees and out range was indeed a deer.
  4. They allow shotguns on weekdays out in the hamptons.I am limited to mostly hunting state land out there, one spot bordering a golf course. I've been amazed by the positive reception they give me, almost cheering me on to get rid of the nuisance to their manicured lawns and expensive cars. Wish easthampton would be more welcoming to non-resident hunters even on private property.
  5. Thanks guys! Belo, could i ask you to repost in whichever forum you find to be most appropriate? And Biz-R-OWorld, petition covers westchester as well
  6. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/authorize-crossbows-for-hunting-in-suffolk-county I am not sure if you have seen this or other petitions like this. Could I ask you to spend <5 minutes to help us w/ votes down here?
  7. Anyone who gives a bad name to hunters by doing something illegal or merely unethical (like a shot at the end of your range/one you aren't sure of) hurts us all. Obey the law regardless of fines.
  8. That sense of entitlement is disgusting.Turn phone gps on, take pics, especially of back tag, call it in and prosecute. Also go and register the threats w/ local authorities. I fear he'll be back out there Monday w/ attitude of "I told him"
  9. probably a good thing as 4s has joined antler restriction party.I don't think you can take spikes or forks even w/ a dmp (pls correct me if I'm wrong)
  10. just had a doe pass w/ two fawns ,does this mean rut's over or yet to begin?
  11. I'm in stand and should be looking elsewhere, the arguments made in that second link seem irrefutable.

    Skinning

Learned trick hard way 1/2 way through. Pull on skin and make a big bubble, then push the bubble around (less escapes through the open belly once field dressed)
  13. Thanks, up by Fremont, u r right too skittish
  14. Movement stopped [this morning ]northern Sullivan county Groups of threes and a couple loan does. How long does rut last, did I miss it?

    Skinning

I read about that one and hunt state land skirting a golf course. When I got my deer I used the air compressor, made it a lot easier but having field dressed it will try golfball next.
  16. I think a lot of people who smoke are in denial about it's stench
  17. Just wanted to thank you for the informed and intelligent debate. I know this is a public forum, would any body object to me taking parts of this dialogue into a note to the DEC, senators or representatives? Would anyone like to help draft the letter to open Harriman to bow hunting pls PM me? Was an environmental biologist/field biologist a long time ago, have to sharpen up my writing skills.
  18. Wow, anyone know where I can buy "grouse" cammo?

    Sundown

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8305.htmlI'm all too aware of the Magic hour. The dec and law are very clear on this matter, "sunrise to sunset". Probably to protect the sport and hunters in the field from those that "think they saw a deer"
