In general factory loads are loaded at a lower C.U.P. This is because older guns as well as most autos can not take the max pressure. However some manufactures have their "Super loads" that they will tell you to not use in _____________ guns. They are mixed powders so it is hush hush and they are pushing the limits of that cartridge. As far as point of impact. Yes a different charge can make a little difference. I find 4 " alot. I have shot bench rest years back and working up loads in a extremely accurate target rifle I have seen 1.5 " alot for charging moveing POI . The only other thing that I can think that could have moved you POI 4" was : have hot the barrel was by the time you got to that particular load. But truth be known POI is not that important when working up a great load. Get the group down, then adjust sight in to fit.

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Santamour123 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I am totaly for AR's However I feel places like Letchworth are doing it correct. AR's but if you are under 18 years of age The AR does not apply. Let every kid shoot a spike . That is great get them hooked.- 1885 replies

OK here you go I have used a whelen but ended up with the 350 rem. almost identicle ballistics. I have used the 180 up to the 250rn The 180 are a very short bullet and tend to blow up even at the 2600 fps-2750 range. The 250gr will shoot straight through any thing you can throw it at. For average whitetails to much. The 200 gr horn. sp with a max load of IMR 4320 is by far my favorite. It has the penitration for the angled or bone shots. But opens up real well. I have killed about 20 whitetails with this load. I have only had 1 take more than 2 steps. And that was because he was running flat out when I hit him, and he only went 15yrds. LOVE IT

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Santamour123 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I can undertsand the meat part. But in my area not everyone, but alot of those who shoot smaller bucks do it in numbers. Maybe if we could get them out of the woods would help. Major fines for violators i mean $1000+ not $ 100 or a slap on the wrist.- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?

NY you are right. This will raise some opinions!!! IMHO the anti AR people are realy fooling themselves and tring to convince every one elso of it as well. Everysingle person here, I don;t care who you are would shoot an nice 8 point that was standing right next to a 4 point!!!. And I will bet my life that they will feel great about it. Now if those people would understand that 1-2 years of sacrafice ( maybe they would get luck off the bat and kill a nice buck) would realize all those oppertunities at smaller bucks they are having now would translate into the same amount of oopertunities at nice bucks- 1885 replies

Picked up my new bow about 5 weeks ago. Already got approx 2000 shots through it. And that will sky rocket with warmer weather!
-
These are also the same statistitions that estimated the NYS deer heard wrong in the late 90's. They admittedly counted every deer with out legal points as "antlerless" yes tag wise this is correct. But when it came to the estimateing 1/3 in theory are bucks to be.

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Santamour123 replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
OK so I have been sitting back trying to fallow this whole argument. From what I see, there ar the hunter that want to grow bigger bucks(they are very interested in the trophy aspect of it) and there are the hunters that are in it for the sport ( they want the meat and the better oportunity of a kill) How about this. All bucks harvested need at least 3 on 1 side to be a legal buck. However to please the others you "buck" tag can be used on an antlerless deer. This would help 4 fold 1- the younger bucks would get older 2- Safety more taget ID required 3- reduse the does in over populated areas 4- The hunters who just want to hunt get a deer Some will say it is not fair to restrict. But if you want my honest opinion "4 on 1 side 2 week rifle season." So my suggestion is very compramising! And lets face it those who can go out and kill a spike the first weekend. If you could wait 1 -2 years all those spikes would be 6-8 or even better.- 1885 replies

Rage 2 blades. Saw amazing results from them last year. Shot a buck through the heart that took 3 bounds and tipped over dead. And I saw a buddy of mine hit a big 6 straight in the guts. The deer ran 60 yards and bedded down dead.

If you are comparing to an older bow, any bow will amaze you now. However when you start to get into the uper class of bows. They are truly modern marvals. I upgrade every 2 years. And within that amount of time the technology is very improved. I just picked up my new Mathews z7 xtreme last week. And absolutly love it.

I shoot the ICS hunter 400's. I originaly started shooting the because the vibrake tech. And loved the performance so I never switched back.
-
Which one did you try? I tried the MR5
-
Akins archery in watertown is 899 for the z7 extreme which is retail. But if you do a deal with no trade in he will take 10% off (809 plus tax)
-
I did try it. Very fast!! However it felt very jumpy in my hand. I have been told the are very unforgiving. But, Unforgiving today is probably equal to an easy shooting bow of 5-10 years ago.

I am looking into upgrading bows.

What ever you ar using for chucks will smoke any yote. As for deer with a 250 nosler makes a 60 gr partition. I have seen this work on deer before. However not recomended. It all depends on shot placement. I have killed 2 does with a 223. But. it is a bench rest rifle and I am shooting them directly in the ear or between the eyes, pff of a rock steady rest.
