All spring/summer every 4 days, ugh. I have slacked in October between the heat, rain and hunting. Planning on doing the full monty (mow, trim, fill dog holes etc...) this weekend and then praying for frost by the 31st!
-
I know the feeling but still tons of leaves up in my area does a number on sightings. I have been hearing action in the pines and catching whiffs of tarsal nearly every sit tho.
-
Any doe stand can become a buck stand quick...nice harvest!
-
I would give my left nut the be out there right now. Thank goodness it's gonna be warm again this weekend, am I right fellas? Seriously next Monday looks like a consistent stretch hopefully it will knock leaves down and turn things on. Good luck this morning best since the opener.

Heading out to my closest stand, would rather hunt elsewhere but no time so here goes nothing...
-
Alright you guys got me pumped to arrow a varmint.
-
How do you skin them (where do you make the cuts, do you cape it)?
-
Sweet shooting man!

I know it's just me not being much of a trophy guy I didn't know what to do with it or who to deal with so it was a real waste of effort for me which I feel kinda bad about all around. I don't like to kill stuff I don't process and eat...not judging I'm just not into it. It was a waste it had a real nice coat: Edit: congrats Chrisw nice shooting!
-
I personally wouldn't waste my deer hunting time recovering one of those stankin mutts...especially when it's wet. I put one in my previous truck then I ended up just burrying it at home...never again.
-
Anyone out there...seems to be the best AM since the opener. Finally a few member got racked bucks in the harvest thread way to go everyone on all the harvests. Tough weather!
-
We just went through this...that is a fine ethical choice for you and we are not talking about sitting out in all day deluges to make poor shots on deer. Sometimes you get wet...do you have gear that helps, why/how is or isn't it suited for bow?
-
I was gonna mention that too..lol, just bustin balls.
-
Thanks for apologizing for hijacking the rain gear thread with your "rain hunting is bad ethics because..." statement. Cuz you did. If you ever want to try it (you might not even melt buckmaster) come back to this thread for some good advice. To Review: I'm happy with Kryptec did not like Badlands.
-
Hunt how you want you threw out the ethics card I just assumed you were afraid of losing a long blood trail to the rain...I try to keep them down in sight DRT.
-
As I said just because I'm sitting in the stand when it rains doesnt mean I throw my ethics out the window... It adds factors to consider in my shot selection (as in whether I shoot or not) etc, and yeah beyond that if something goes wrong that can happen anytime so you do your best to avoid errors and learn from the ones you make. If you're worried about preserving a 150 yard blood trail or longer your shot selection credo is not as good as you think. If you are opposed to hunting in the rain don't do it. I have found well hit deer with little blood just by seeing that the trail was recently used. Also why bash a product you've never used...dude didn't say it would find his deer for him he said he'd like to see if it works.

This is a message board...so I'll take you by your written statement.
-
Well I can tell you I was dry today but it was basically just living in a cloud at 2000ft not a pour down.
-
I don't need to kill a deer either the elements don't bother me much and I wear appropriate gear, wet is good for me 35 & above better than hot...and I'll hunt and ski all day dry 0-20* snow and wind no problem, I enjoy it.
-
My experience is anything less than a downpour tends to dilute/spread blood trails but not wash them away...can actually help a little in a pin drop trail. If you aren't in the stand as systems collide you are missing out...don't have to shoot when it's pouring...I don't see them as much then anyway, but after it breaks, gotta pay to play! Like any other factor considerate it in your shot selection, ethical range, etc.

I got the badlands stuff 3 seasons ago, just a bit more than 9.99 (teehee) but same effect... So last season I opted fur extra layers (poly and wool only, cotton kills) and just accepted getting soaked. Better than sweating, in fact it's active scent control...that said I'm enjoying dryness in the krypec so far this season.

Any army/navy or even eBay.

I have overpriced badlands rain gear which does not breathe is not comfortable and is loud. Went with kryptec vellus fleece jacket and pants this season only got to wear it opening day (36*) and today (just the jacket). Supposed to be good w/layering from early to late season (0-50*). It is warm so I was only wearing a tank top to my tree and I waited until the rain chilled me completely before I put it on pitzips open. i must wear stuff fully zipped for string clearance but man I was comfortable in 60* with steady drizzle and occasional gusts much more than I would have been in the garbage bag I mean badlands gear. Fleece obviously totally silent and super comfy this stuff is also waterproof/windproof. I also have firstlight lightweight merino wool pants that stay warm even if wet.

Well zero seen again conditions were great for a mid day but c'est la vie! I did hang and lock on a hawk hang on so I did get that accomplished. Which reminded me how great my molle frame packenstein (frankenpack) is: i have hiked ladder stands in over a mile...cost me 15 bucks and I use all my old packs on it 3rd year using it.
