  1. Typically this time of year I would be in here til noon and then do a pm sit. But since my wife originally took the week off in case we wanted to do something for our anniversary (we did see Ben Bailey at funny bone on Sat) I'm thinking I'll go make some time with my gals (2.5 yr old daughters home too so it ain't all fun and games.) Great morning...I battled a red squirrel, passed a good doe, smelling deer often and just as I was finishing this a red fox came right under my stand. Gonna pack it in a few...good luck all!
  2. Second pass of the day... That a$$hole red squirrel was napping In his treehole 10 yards str8 ahead of me I drew and held it on him forever but $40 arrow & BH sticking there for the rest of my days hunting here would have annoyed me.
  3. If I can muster the stuff to kill for my own reasons I certainly will for the good of a wounded animal. I get plenty of tags, 2 buck & 3 antlerless standard + dmaps + 2 transferred dmps & TDMFA 2/day thru January. That doesn't include PA & Jersey tags when I hunt there.
  4. What's the local mast and browse look like?
  5. Healthy young lone doe gave me a 20 yard broadside I passed a few steps later she was right down wind and it stopped her and then she calmly deviated slightly away from me but in the same direction. Only the 3rd deer I've seen from stand this season, first one I didn't shoot ha
  6. I threw out a couple turkey calls and a red squirrel came to my tree and harassed me for 10 str8 minutes he just kept hop circling the base of the tree chirping at me... i couldn't get a shot and nothing I tossed stopped him so fur the first time in my hunting career I got out of my stand and chased away a red squirrel. Edit as I was writing this the little fckr snuck up the tree and chirped right behind my ear I almost dropped my phone!
  7. 43 light rain but dry under the canopy and drier under my kryptec vellus gear and Sitka incinerator hat. First AM hunt fur me since the opener. Only hunting big does, thanksgiving birds and yotes here in 7j until the 18th... My 7r lease yearlings (and the bears) better still be on high alert as the landowner wants dmaps filled.
  8. Moog I agree with mike I've been blowing through stuff even on a decent 130lb dressed with a similar arrow and less DW...I agree you would probably have been good but you are never wrong fur playing it safe...a long or unsuccessful recover would have been an unkind reminder. You don't need me to tell you that, good call...get him tomorrow!
  9. Bump that arrow up to 520 see what happens. But also agree have a tech check it quick. Congrats on the harvests so far.
  10. 125 grain Strickland Helix single bevel rediculously sharp out of the box. Used the same BH and 520 grain arrow on both harvests this year though shoulders, spine and all kinds of junk. It is back in the quiver ready for #3 but these are possibly the thickest and strongest broadheads on earth:
  11. With my son he started sleeping overnight at 16 weeks...I thought it was hell. I was not prepared for 14 months with my princess!
  12. Hunted about 20 hrs since my opening day 7:10 am harvest hadn't seen another deer but I have been smelling them. This evening at 6:22 this healthy yearling doe came in...I let her get real close to make sure no antler hiding... 10 yards she was crouched to pee I got spine heart lung liver ran against the back of the chest cavity all the way out through the leg. Same 522 grain arrow and BH are ready for another harvest.
  13. You are not kidding it was more like the tenderloins slid out rather than pealed. i also knicked both rounds skinning it was so tender. A nice size for a long drag as well. I can't believe how stinky these deer are already.
  14. Yearling doe 10 yds DRT at 6:22....in the truck on the way home now. 2nd deer seen 2nd harvested DRT with the new apa mamba air tf and 520 grain arrows/single bevel BH combo.
  15. 62 and gusty keeping it cool and sound covered my mile hike in...bit of tree surfing too! Im on top of the west ridge of the Otisco Valley...200 yards east of me is a 700ft fairly sheer face...50 yards west is a recently tilled field with green something in it.
  16. Well just as if my own Grampy had kindly asked me about my lawn I got the hint and did the deed. Did i mention all push mower and stihl trimmer due to fluctuating topography and got it done while my 2.5 yr old daughter was napping!
  17. Picking up the boy from school and dropping him and his sis at the gparents for the weekend... Should be in a tree by 4:30
  18. Am I the only one who does the tenderloins first?
  19. This is the one piece of my kit I was missing so I took your advice and did not skimp on a Sitka incinerator.
  20. I hope old man winter rolls in on Halloween and doesn't give in all season...turn it to tundra! Might even keep the deer working for a living instead of dodgin me like they owed me money.
