  1. In the stand I am taking the Winchester model 70 .270 with nikon scope. If I am still or stalking then I am taking the Winchester model 94 30-30 with iron sights. For where and what I hunt it is the best combo for me.
  2. The bow is much faster however I set it up with a new set of better quality stiffer and heavier arrows so I dont think that is the issue. My form and grip is proper and consistent so I took those out of the equation hence why I am puzzled. Maybe Neil was right and possibly some bows dont paper tune perfectly.
  3. I did in fact work with Neil that day and he is a great guy and seemed very knowledgable but he was also extremely busy that day so I was not sure if he was telling me not to focus on paper tuning for the simple fact that he did not have time to work with me. Anyways my broadheads and field points are flying and grouping true and within a 1 1/2inches at 30 yards so I am satisfied with that for now. If I have more time to play with then I will try and work a little more on it.
  4. I have another one that is also for sale. I have a brand new 2013 Bear Legion fully equipped, setup, tuned and sighted in by a pro-shop. I have no use for it so I want to sell it. It is set at 26 inch draw, 60-70lbs, 80% letoff and is fully adjustable with no bow press. You can just adjust the modules and change draw lengths and let off. It is setup with top of the line accessories. Here is what is equipped with: Apex Axim 4 pin sight w/light QAD drop away rest Peep sight Kisser button D loop Truglo carbon XS 5 Quiver Plano Hard case 4x beman ics hunter arrows w/field points Once again this bow is brand new, setup, sighted in and ready to hunt. It sells for $399 naked. Asking price will be $400 negotiable for everything. I
  5. I am not sure. If it is the newer cam (Ram Plus) then it says that it is adjustable. I know the let-off has a module for adjustment. If I am not mistaken the length can be adjusted also. When I go home I will check and let you know.
  6. I already tagged out on paper lol. It is shooting great and grouping tight but the more I read the more I hear how important paper tuning is along with all the possible causes and problems. One being fletching clearance through the rest and how I can ruin all my arrow fletchings. Most of all I am paranoid that it will effect my shot when it counts and that is when I am hunting.
  7. Any reasonable offers??? Not really sure what would be fair???
  8. I went to the pro shop last night, a very reputable shop (Pro-line archery in Queens) because I could not for the life of me paper tune my bow. I am shooting quarter-half dollar size groups from 20 to 30 yards but no matter what I do I keep getting paper tears. So with that said the guy at the pro-shop looked at my bow and made a few adjustments to my peep, rest and loop then shot it himself then made a few more tweaks. Make a long story short he got it to tear a little less however not perfect and ended up telling me that some bows no matter what you do can never perfectly paper tune and as long as I can get my broadheads and field points to group tight consistently then I should not focus on the paper tuning. He swore to me that he cant even get his Bowtech to perfectly paper tune. Now I have been shooting for about 15 years and only paper tuned my last bow because prior to that I was not knowledgeable enough. I inherited a brand new bow about a month ago so I figured I would paper tune this one as well but that has not worked out and I dont know if I should give up and listen to the guy at the pro-shop or keep trying. Now I have two bows, one which is a 2005 model and paper tuned and I dont plan on using anymore because I dont have the time to maintain and shoot two bows so I am going to sell, and one which is a 2013 model which shoots great but I cant paper tune. I kind of feel bad getting rid of the one that I have paper tuned cause maybe it is a better setup. Not really sure.
  9. Just bought a Tru ball assassin. By far my favorite release I have ever used.
  10. I have been to Pro line and they are great but they are about 45 minutes away from me with no traffic, Queens archery even further. I was hoping to find a place close to home or work so I can drop in for an hour or so in the evening after work. I have heard about the range at Floyd Bennet Field but never checked it out. Thanks for reminding me. That may be an option for nice days. I believe there is an outdoor range by me in Staten Island also but I read a few blogs that says it doubles as a dog park when no archers are using it so not really sure what to think about that.
  11. I have nobody behind me only houses are on the sides which i have 6ft pvc fencing all around so that is the only reason I would consider practicing in the direction of the back of my house with appropriate back stops of course. So my interpretation of any laws documented is that as long as I have permission from owners around me then I would be allowed to shoot my bow. Correct me if I am wrong. The only archery range that I know of on Staten Island requires mandatory volunteer work along with a $300 membership which I am not fond of nor do I have time for the volunteer work unfortunately especially if I am paying a healthy membership fee. So I really dont have much practicing options except for when I go up to my hutning property. If there is anybody from my area with alternative ideas please fill me in.
  12. Anyone know if there are any laws on practicing in my backyard with my bow in Staten Island
  13. I have always owned Hoyt & PSE bows but the new bear line-up looked really good so I dove in and bought a middle range BEAR Legion. So far I am very impressed on the build quality. It is much faster and quieter than my previous bows and it is very light. The let-off on this bow is like literally a wall and I can hold drawn back forever. Its fast enough that I was able to sight in my first pin at 25 yards with only about a 1/4 of an inch difference from 10-25 yards. Now my problem is I can shoot quarter size groups to 25 yards and 35 yards but then when I paper tune and have major tears high and left. I know it is not a form or torque issue, and everything is square and level. Unfortunately I have been a little spoiled and always had a pro shop set up and paper tune my bows but this one I decided to purchase the correct tools and set up myself. I just wanted to know if anyone else shoots a bear and have any paper tuning issues?
  14. Price reduction. I never sold a bow before so I think maybe $300 is a more reasonable price.
  15. Die hard Giants fan here and would love to see Giants in it however realistically I think Denver or Seattle may take it all.
  16. I purchased a shotgun a few months back online and had to ship it to my FFL dealer. He charged me $75 and when I asked him about the $10 max fee he said yes thats true and the rest is my administrative fees. So basically I had to bend over because I went to two other FFL dealers and they didnt even want to do a transfer.
  17. Hey. I did the opposite. I lived in Brooklyn and now moved to Staten Island. Good luck. By the way are you looking for a new or used bow? I have a mint condition bow with complete setup up for sale here in the classified section.
  18. Sorry I thought i put it. I am asking $350. I paid $400 for just the bow, another $100 for equipment, $35 for the case and $75 for my archery dealer to set it up and tune it. So there is alot of value in having a bow completely set up. AR (Archery Research) was a high end division made by PSE for a few years. It is really an awesome bow. It has great looks and shoots very well. PS I am not just saying that because I am trying to sell it. To be honest if I dont sell it I wont be mad because I am sure I will use it again someday. I just hate to see good things laying around and collecting dust. I have been too busy repairing my house from Sandy! P.S. I dont have it here at home with me. It is up at my hunting camp in Sloansville so if anyone is interested I will have to go up and get it.
  19. I have almost new AR31fully dressed and ready to shoot. I bought it 2 years ago, set it up, took maybe 50 shots and haven't used it since. I pretty much no longer have time these days for archery so I am selling.beautiful smooth bow. specs below: Right hand 26 inch draw 60lb draw weight Drop away rest Truglo illuminated 3 pin sight Stabilizer Peep sight Sling Hard case Pm me for pics
  20. Yep no hunting, no coyotes, lots of cover means lots of old deer. These guys are gonna get big.
  21. Last night I got to see bucks in velvet. Not one but a bachelor group of 3. And they all had very impressive racks. Guess what.... they werent up at camp. I saw them where I live in Staten Island behind a Bed Bath & Beyond. I always knew they were here in Staten Island and I have seen does here and there but never bucks like this. Awesome sighting. My wife thought I was crazy when I saw these deer lol. P.S. Sorry for the terrible pics. I only had my cell phone and I had to zoom in all the way which ruined the pic.
  22. Nice to see everybody's four legged friends. Here are my two that have faces only a mother could love. Primo is the boxer/pit mix and Capone is the pug.
  23. I hunt private land most of the time but I am open to options. Let me know what you have going on.
  24. My disgust is with the people who are supposed to be on our side and that is these dealers. You would think out of anybody they would be the ones interested in trying to preserve our rights and help with the matter instead they are putting their tail between their legs and giving customers attitude because they are losing business. They also are not taking proper measures to properly interpritate the new laws. I finally found someone yesterday that gave me the time of day. He is a private custom arms manufacturer who seems to have kept himself well informed on all the new laws and he has agreed to help me out with a transfer. It was a relief to speak to someone educated and willing to help out a law abiding conusmer.
