  1. Grouse in WNY is very sparse. I used to kick up acouple everytime rabbit hunting now nothing.
  2. Ya I hunt there and fish there many times, It is known mostly for the ducks there and that area is geared more towards the waterfowler but there are some big old swamp bucks there to. It is funny cause when you get on a buck in those swamps they almost look darker than the normal deer and draging a buck out of the swamps is no picnic
  3. Talking to a buddy of mine and he showed me in the Benelli Vinci manual they list 2 guns, a Vinci and Super Vinci. It looks like its a 3.5 magnum and it also looks like it has a slug barrel. This may be what Benelli is going to reveal at there Vegas show and I just might have let the cat out. We will have to wait and see what happens but the manual says it all. Now lets see where this thread goes.
  4. Great Im going to be deadly at 15 yards cause thats all my basement will give me.
  5. Great thanks, I shot the z7 again today and I have to say I love that thing. The guy at the bow shop has been so helpful I would feel bad if I just walked away and bought a used bow off someone that I know noththing about and how that bow was treated. I know I can save some money and I dont have money to burn but I do have a conscience. After shooting the z7 and then the mission I took someone's advise and closed my eyes and the z7 was real smooth, so I bought it, what the hell. He gave me a good price cause I went in with a budget and told him my budget and he respected that. Hope to have this baby for a long time.
  6. Thanks for the input and I think I will go with the mission a used bow is something I might think about but a $1300 bow for $500 only shot a handful of times sounds like he is either a crack head or something wrong with it. I am going to look around the archery talk
  7. Ya I do plan on getting it from a local shop Im glad he did not want to just sell me the most expensive bow on his shelf. He asked me alot of questions and let me shoot whatever ones I wanted to. Unfortunatly I have a budget and I wanted to keep everything bow, sights, quiver, arrows all around a $1000, and the z7 I think was $1000 for just the bow. The mission felt great I think Im leaning towards that one more so than the others I shot.
  8. Well I shot a Mathews z7 and a Mission I guess made by Mathews and a Hoyt. I liked all 3 but when I released the hoyt it tilted to the right where that extra stablizer was or whatever that thing is. I think I would lean towards the Mission cause of the $400 difference both the z7 and the mission felt smooth to a novice like me. Any of you guys have a Mission bow and what do you think. And is the Mission line just the the lower end of the Mathews, thanks.
  9. I saw a couple birds during deer season and spring is not to far away I hope.
  10. You really can go the extra mile and wrap some crown molding around she will love it but it costs a fortune.
  11. Thats almost exactly what my dad told me, great points. Doc I dont have anything picked out yet or where to even where or what web site to look at for purchasing land. Anyone have any advise for a first timer.
  12. Well here is my story I just put up for sale my 2 snowmobiles for sale to use that money on a down payment for some hunting land. I'm 38 years old and have been riding sleds and racing for a while now and as of the last 2 years my heart isnt up for it. Now you may say what sleds can be worth to put money down on land but my one race sled has about 10 grand into it. I feel that me and my family will enjoy a nice get away anytime of the year vrs waiting for snow to fall and snowmobile trails to open. This deer hunting season I had a great time even though I was skunked and want to invest in something I can maybe enjoy with the whole family. Im sure alot of you guys will think it is a good move but guys on the snowmobile forums will say Im nuts, oh well we will see how things pan out, hopefully in my favor.
  13. No not a serial killer and deer hunt alone but when rabbit hunting or duck or bird hunting alone sucks. I was stomping on brush piles but when I flushed out the rabbit I couldnt get my gun up, small game is just better with someone else. I live in Lancaster, look me up next year I would be down.
  14. I know it is not ideal to hunt alone but all of my buddies deer hunt and thats it. Today was a nice snow covered day so I wanted to take a walk and maybee see some rabbits or kick up a grouse but dont know anyone to call to go with me. Is anybody like this or if anyone wants to get ahold of me for a fun hunt feel free to get in touch. I live in WNY.
  15. I dont think they make a slug barrel for the vici either, so that would be a downside to.
  16. Alright I have it down to 2 guns and have shot several but like the benelli. Both are light and fast but the vinci is real futuristic breaking down into only 3 sections but only shoots a 3 inch mag. The sbe is a gun that has been around a while and is proven and shoots a 3and half inch mag, and more money. Which to get and do I really need the 3 and half inch mag or will the 3 inch vici be enough. Thanks help me.
  17. That is funny cause its true and is something I learned this year, great observation.
  18. Trespassing yes I know and next time I will ask permission, but like I said before Im walking without a weapon looking for a wounded deer, most people are understanding and if you want to call the cops go ahead thats a case that will be thrown out of court 8 out of 10 times with maybee a small fine, not to metion how much time I would be wasting of the property owner, in legal proceedings cause I am always represented. Sod, no one took your deer. I'm sorry you didn't get the meat, but You were trespassing and could have been arrested. Private property is private property. Ask first.
  19. Your apsolutely correct I will practice my shot, for next year.
  20. Ya the more I think about it maybee I didnt hit him in the vitals but I do know I was following good blood all the way, not just a drop here an there. I know I dont want my first deer to be a bad experience but now I can chalk it up to things I learned, and Im glad someone will get some meat in the freezer an those coyotes didnt get it. I think next year Im going to drive to these other surronding properties and just let then know what area I will be hunting and maybee someone will throw me a bone cause there was great buck signs in some of those thickets.
  21. Real nice deer I would be so lucky just to see a deer like that walk up on me on the last couple days, now go play the lotto.
  22. Ya I understand the guy shooting it even though it was dark, and I know its the kill shot who gets the deer. I was on 65 acres of private land and he went through a couple different properties , I didnt ask anyones permission if I would have drove around to do that I would still be knocking on doors. I just kept following blood why ask I was not carring my gun and if anyone asked me I'm looking for a wounded deer not shooting deer on there property. I dont think I would ask if I had to do it over again most people are understanding. But let me ask this you guys go to each property and knock on there door just to look for a wounded deer?
  23. Well not realy but the story goes like this, I hit a 4 point about 40 yards away with one shot square around the vital's (so I think) then he dropped right there, kicked around on the ground then got up an started to trot away. I fired another and may have missed, an whatched him run off. I got right down from my stand and walked over to were I shot him to see if I saw blood and sure enough a nice 4 inch round spatter. I then waited about 30 min to start to go after him, and followed blood trail for about 300 yards an kicked him up in some reel thick stuff. Again followed blood only to kick him up again, so after following him for over a mile it was getting dark fast then kicked him up again and 1 min latter I here Boom Boom, I mean it was 4:45 let along he had to of been running why would you shoot you couldnt see that good. I waited till this morning to pick up the trail again (just incase he missed) and started tracking at first light, followed blood for a while only to find alot of blood with ATV tracks or tractor tracks, so I figured I will follow those and there was the deer hanging from a swing set. So I have 2 questions, should I have waited longer to track? And should I have said anything to the guy who shot it which he was inside I didnt see him? That was my first deer so I am a little upset.
