  1. The new browning s can't be beat, that's what I'm buying with spy point second
  2. My mind must still be rattled, I forgot about Doc Whites 600gr bullets shot out of my White muzzloader, even with only 70 grains of triple seven it knocked me into next week. That's some bear medicine for sure .
  3. 10ga H and R shooting 3 1/2in slugs pops a wallop, been years since I even seen 10ga slugs available. Although it was by mechanical error, I had a Wards double barrel that fired both 3in shells at the same time, needless to say I got the goose but practically fell out of the boat. The gun has since been repaired.
  4. How close were you able to get, great photos
  5. Whats everyone buying in 2017 , I have my mind set on on a new Browing strike force pro in the very near future. I've been a moultrie fan for years but I am not impressed with the 2017 line up . I may get another spy point force 11 D also.
  6. If any one is looking for a cam , I'd recommend the Browning line. I've used moultrie, spy point ,wild game innovations ,cuddy back and bushnell. Browning by far is the leader of the pack to date ...
  7. If it were me I'd save your money and use the muzzle loader with a 350grain hornady FPB or a 460grain no excuses . The saved money could go toward funding the trip . If not the .308 will work just fine .
  8. Duracell and the browning won hands down . The 2016 strike force elite HD took 240 pics since December of 2016 and was still at 83%. When I got to it ,it said card full but still took my picture , I can't explain that one. I thought the 8 gig card would have thousands of photos since it said card full, but only 240 The older moultrie 990 had 37 pics and was at 23% and still took my pic with the eight energizer batteries . I was surprised how low of a percentage was left considering the lack of photos and the additional two batteries . Now I placed my spy point force 11D out there as well. All three cams are now running rayovac akaline batteries . I'll be back out again in late August to see what the 2017 hit list looks like. looks like a new browning cam will be my next purchase . I really like the 2017 strike force pro. Steve
  9. Well I left my browning 2016 strike force elite HD and a few years old moultrie 990 ( I think that is the model , it has a viewer built in ) at camp since 12/3/16 . One cam has Duracell and the other energizer . The browning uses six batteries to eight of the moultrie , both got regular alkaline .We are in the tug hill plateu so cold and snow hammered both cams . At some point I think both were under the snow due to heavy lake effect . I can't wait to see what survived for deer and cam !!!! I'll post results when I return
  10. I am surprised more haven't said lonesome dove , instant classic .
  11. I, Hatchet Jack, bein’ of sound mind and broke legs do hereby leaveth my bear rifle to whatever finds it. Lord hope it be a white man. It is a good rifle and kilt the bear that kilt me. Anyway, I am dead. Yours truly, Hatchet Jack.”
  12. You skin griz pilgrim..... Jeremiah Johnson is a must see if you haven't seen it. I've been watching it for the past 35 years and it never gets old . I have an old vhs copy tucked away in the basement. Lonesome dove would be my number two then the searchers or big Jake.
  13. white hots and power belts, ugh
  14. If he's shooting pellets he will need to clean every couple shots just to load it, you'll find out what a crud ring is real quick if not using bh209
  15. It's easy to tailor loads using loose powder and typically better groups are achieved, but pellets can be effective. Have him be safe and read owners manual upon arrival. Muzzloaders are a blast to shoot but like every firearm caution is needed .
  16. Biz ,once he gets it have him place a witness mark on that ram rod , your going to want to make sure the bullet seats all the way against the charge. Nice looking setup, good luck.
  17. I'll tell you what, for the price the rayovac have performed as good as Duracell or energizer.
  18. Jeremy was referring to their shooting abilities after swapping out a TC barrel to a bergara barrel . That guarantee applies to barrel / guns with nitride .The down side to nitride treatment is it will change the heat treatment of the barrels. This isn't an issue in AR guns but could be in a muzzloader barrel. I am unsure if CVA will give you an exact heat treatment used on their barrels. I have seen a few at the club who have actually gotten a cerakote coating applied over the nitride finish. For me, I got my White thunderbolt coated in black ice, no chipping or flaking what so ever and the action actually became smoother... TGIF to all. Steve
  19. Because everything on line is true. I'm all set no need to look for an article.
  20. Jeremy, have you found any facts to back the above statement up? Seems your the only one that got bent over my facts and opinions. Steve
  21. I know before you needed a different breech plug if you wanted to shoot Blackhorn 209 powder in a CVA, the stock plug will work fine with T7 , Pyrodex or and BP subs but won't ignite BH209 100% of the time. As for bullets ,don't waste your time on Power Belts ,they may shoot accurate but lack performance on game . He could try: hornady 300gr FPB .452 250-300gr XTP in a crush rib or mmp sabot, .452 250gr FTX in crush rib or mmp sabot .452 300gr deep curls from Speer if you can find them , that's the best bullet going for a ML today I think . any of the Barnes line of bullets in stock sabots or harvester / mmp Have him start at low powder charge of 70-80gr or two pellets if that's what he is going to use . Steve
  22. Any luck finding proof to back that up ? He will enjoy the gun Biz. What powder and bullet choice will he be trying out when it arrives ....
  23. Melvin builds a sweet gun. You should sell it to me
