Just bought 2 more bags of Throw & Grow. When should I throw it down so that there is some edible amounts left for Nov. 1st opening ay for Xbow? -
I'm sure the couple of square feet of grass will be eaten and gone 6 weeks from now. UNLESS I THROW/PLANT MORE LOL
-
Exactly. If opening day of xbow (Nov. 1st) I shoot a buck while he's eating this grass, I'm not sure if I feel as rewarded....

I've never illegally baited, or used food plots in NY. This year I used a bag of throw and grow that I gotten for free years ago. I kicked around some leaves and threw it down. It grew and now deer come to it every single day according to my cams. Unfortunately, the "food plot" is tiny like 5 feet by 2 feet lol. Part of me feels like I'm baiting illegally. It was the same amount of work that it would take to throw corn or apples. I guess it's different in my area (3N) where there are no food plots, farms, etc. the deer here eat acorns, flowers from people's yards and tree bark lol. These deer are even coming during daylight just to eat this grasslike "food plot" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks guys, confirms my guess that they are 2 different bucks as well. Last year was the first year in probably like 15-20 years that neither my Dad or Me took a buck off this 8 acres piece of property. This is by far the most amount of different bucks I have ever gotten on camera. Hopefully with the addition of the Xbow season this year, we can get some of the bucks on the ground. We've never owned a treestand, my Dad and I believe that the landowner might allow us to put one up. However, we have always hunted from the ground (no blinds) regardless of hunting with shotgun or xbow. Would it be a bad idea to throw up a 2-man ladder stand this close to the Nov. 1st Xbow opening day? We have always been the type of hunters who believe in leaving everything as natural as possible (no blinds, no treestands, no scent lures, etc.). -

These pics are making me contemplate hunting out of a treestand for the first time in hopes of getting that yote or bobcat under me with my xbow in hand Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Checked cameras for the 2nd time this year. 1st check was 8/9 – 8/24 here > http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/23843-3n-putnam-co-8914-82314/ This time I had 3 cams out from 8/24 – today. Main cam was in same spot as always near acorns in Putnam County (3N) on private 8 acres behind some houses. A second cam I put watching an area that I threw some “Throw & Grow”. I’ve had a small bag of this I once got for free at Cabelas a few years ago and never used it. Well last time I checked the cams I just kicked around some leaves and threw the seed. I was shocked to actually see it grow. I actually wasn’t shocked to see deer (1 real nice buck) eating it because there is not much feed where I hunt, as I have seen deer eating bark sometimes. This throw and grow spot is about 75 yards from the main cam and then I added a 3rd cam another 75 yards or so on the other side of the main cam. Anyway, it was best “pull” of cams in my life (this is my 3rd year using cams on this property). I got over 1,000 pics in 3 weeks. Tons of does and fawns. Also tons of red fox, maybe some are the same but many appear different sizes. But literally 400+ pics of red fox. Also, got my 1st ever Bobcat! And first ever Coyote! Lastly, and most importantly, I think there are about 5-6 different bucks and 1 definite 8 pointer. I only had 2 extra SD cards so I pulled 2 cards and took a picture of the 8 pointer on my cell phone off the camera before putting the card back in. Do you guys think the 8 pointer on 9/12 is the same as the hardhorned buck on 9/13? I can’t quite tell, and of course would be happy if they are 2 different bucks. Let me know!

I got a 2011 Excalibur Vortex Recurve Xbow. Planning to replace the original string this year before the season. No cams, so I can do it myself in under 10 min Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Small operation I meant. I wasn't saying the property was small. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The range is wide. There are completely DIY hunts, there are semi guided where u get the lodging and access to private land, and then there are fully guided hunts that can go as high as $10K. Feel free to PM me if you want. I prefer smaller family run operations where I am the only hunter in camp. They are typically much cheaper in price but I've had pretty good success so far. I also look for new outfitters or ones that aren't that popular yet so again the prices are much reasonable and then I negotiate from there on cost or extra days etc. lastly, I usually book at least 2 in advance to lock in cheaper prices. For example, I paid $3K for my mt lion hunt in 2012. That same hunt is now $7,500Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I believe there are 2 units in CT where you can hunt over bait all season long. 1 of the units is either all or most of Fairfield County Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't. My Dad has facebook and is friends with the guy, and saw the pic there. I don't know any other details, but it looks like a decent one.

A guy my Dad knows got this one near Ellenville.

I'm glad my fiancé has no desire to hunt. Saves me a ton of $ in the long run on clothes, hunting trips, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No effect at all if the animal is taken legally, I would assume? I know p&y recently changed their stance on lighted nocks. I would think a guy who shoots a p&y or b&c deer over bait legally is eligible for record books. I would think the same for bear with dogs, spot and stalk, over bait, etc. all the same as long as legal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
