  1. Jeep thermometer said 78 just before I headed out for end of PM hunt. Figured I would take advantage of the warm weather and wear my Grateful Dead tie dye t-shirt...now I just need some of that deer-in-heat incense!
  2. Had a beautiful buck walk by my ground blind at about 30 yards ...a tad bit too far for my stone point. Made a few grunts and he stopped for a minute and then walk on. Very exciting! I cannot wait to let this arrow fly!!!! Probably give it another hour then off to work on my cord wood construction project (rebuilding my sugar shack). Both my brothers harvested their second deer this week...quartered yesterday’s deer last night and put on ice...feasted on some heart and great beers earlier this week. Good luck!!
  3. Out for the afternoon hunt with the arrow in my creek-side ground blind..for fun I’ll name the arrow “Kirk” after the style of the stone point. Was also out this morning with Kirk in the first snow fall (Sat in my Oak tree ground blind)...no deer seen this morning...hoping this afternoon will be different!!
  4. So close ...I spotted fat solo doe at 12yds coming in towards my creek-side ground blind...at less than 10 yds, i started to draw and find a spot to bury my stone point...I didn’t have the shot I wanted (even being so close), she busted me and bounced off. So close but I don’t regret not taking a shot. Soon!!
  5. The arrow and I have been out on many journeys since it’s birth but we have yet had an opportunity at the right shot. Below are some photos of our journeys. I’m confident we will harvest soon! Stay tuned!
  6. Heading out back with my stone point arrow shortly ...27degrees...trying to find my fur-lined loin cloth.
  7. This morning I headed out to my ground blind located in the oaks behind the house this for a quick hunt before work. As I was getting ready to head back home after a brief sit, and without any deer sightings, I saw a doe approaching my blind from behind me. She was walking straight for the blind and I figured she would see me and bolt as she was approaching the open entrance to my blind, so I just stood very still to watch everything play out. She fed, eating acorns, as she walked right in front of my blind entrance, and just before I thought she was going to lift her head, see me, and take off, she kept grazing and moved out of sight. Now with a tree between me and the deer, I prepared myself to make a shot as she walked in front of one of my shooting openings. After a minute or so, I thought she picked up on what was going on and disappeared at an angle out of my sight. Well, much to my surprise, she turned and started to walk into my blind. At this point I was fully ready albeit in awe that the deer was so close, and literally in my blind. As soon as the shot presented itself, I released the arrow and it sailed straight through her boiler room. I jumped up on my sitting log and watched her make a semicircle and drop in front of my sugar shack about 40 yards from where I shot her. I’m extremely excited that I made a good shot and she expired very fast. My only regret is that I didn’t have my selfbow and my newly made stone point arrows. Something to look forward to…stay tuned! Good luck!
  8. Well that was exciting! A doe walked right into my ground blind with me...no lie, 6 ft shot. And per Murphy’s Law...I didn’t bring my stone point and stick bow with me.
  9. And some quick porcupine notes; their guard hair can sell for over $450 per pound.... and look up porcupine bezoar....
  10. I have skinned, fleshed and egg tanned a porky a few years back...it was easy to skin but very difficult to flesh! They are very fatty and greasy. In addition to the quills being barbed, they have some kind of toxin/irritant on the end of the quills (from my experience). I would like to try putting up another one. no deer yet...no rain either!
  11. So close!! I had a buck within 10 feet of my brush blind (between blind and tree In the photo) but not a clear shot. Once he got in that close, he knew something was up after a minute, stomped his hoofs once and leaped out of range with a snort. I saw him slowly walking away through the stem density. That will get the heart rate up! Good luck to the hunters this morning!
  12. I should’ve put a roof on my blind...getting pummeled with acorns!
  13. Out in my oak tree ground blind with my (Hopefully) lucky arrow! My brother is just down the road at our parents...looks like he was a little too slow getting to his spot!
  14. Not much time to be out this morning...never know! Looks like the skies will be clearing this afternoon. (Picking up my bobcat skull later from my beetle guy)!
  15. No deer seen. Looking like rain until Wednesday and snow on Friday!
  16. I have a very small piece of leather on this bow for a shelf...need to canter the bow ..still rides across my hand (you can see the cuts in my hand from the fletching)
  17. This is the selfbow I’m using this season...Osage orange wood backed with rattlesnake. I made this bow a few years ago and really like the feel of it...it is about 47# at 26”.
  18. Giving it another whirl with the stone point...this time I left the loin cloth home
  19. Not sure...I’m still in my stand. He said good hit and it didn’t go far...I’ll let you know later
