  1. Just heard yesterday…bought two cans of fff this morning for my flinty!
  2. Thought I would circle back around regarding my 20th annual fishing trip...I had 13 guys join me...we all had a great time and caught lots of fish!! Everyone loved the lure wraps...it's going to be hard for me to top that for next year! Below is a link to a bunch of photos of the camping, fishing, and wallowing in the rivers!
  3. Just finished clearing some trails and beefing up my ground blinds. Last year I used my tow-behind lawn rake on my main trails…afterwards I was wondering why the deer were in the leaf piles late into the season and realized there were tons of acorns that got raked up into the piles along with the leaves. lots of acorns, apples, pears, and crabapples this year!
  4. hi Cynthia, What is the olive green item in the attached photo? thanks!
  5. Yes, very nice! I would be interested in the green wool gloves if still available. (You can pm me). Thanks!
  6. I just received this email and wanted to share with the forum in the event there are some fisher trappers out there! Good luck this year and please be safe!! DinoDear Trapper,You are receiving this email because you applied for a Fisher Trapping Permit in 2020. As you may be aware, earlier this year DEC proposed regulations that would remove the requirement for the free special fisher trapping permit. Unfortunately, due to a publication error, these regulations will not be adopted prior to the start of the 2021 trapping season. To simplify the process for trappers this season, DEC has created a self-issued fisher trapping permit. We are automatically sending fisher permits to those who applied for a Fisher Trapping Permit in 2020. Please sign and date this permit and carry it with you when trapping. This permit can also be downloaded from the DEC website at: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30442.html. Please help us spread the word by forwarding this link to any trappers that you know who are interested in trapping fisher this season.Trappers are not required to submit the lower jaw, head, or carcass of any fisher taken during the 2021 trapping season. In addition, trappers do not have to complete or submit a Fisher Trapping Activity Log this season. Trappers do need to have fisher sealed by DEC staff. A possession tag is attached to this email for your convenience. Please note that a separate permit is required for trappers wishing to pursue marten, which does include an activity log. Contact the DEC Region 5 Wildlife Office in Warrensburg at 518-623-1240 to obtain a marten trapping permit. We encourage all trappers to stay involved by commenting on any proposed regulations, including the proposal to remove the special fisher trapping permit. Information on the proposed regulations and how to comment can be found on DEC’s website at: www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/34113.html. If you have any questions, please contact your DEC Regional Furbearer Biologist listed below. You can also contact us by responding to this e-mail or by sending a new message to [email protected]. 7. Thanks everyone!! I had an awesome B-day!
  8. My son is braver than me…not sure I want to be dangling my toes in there!
  9. Also saw these covering the floor of my woods…. It’s incredible how many different mushrooms there are if you take the time to look. A mycophile friend of mine told me one of the most diverse places in NY to see mushrooms is the Zurich Bog in Arcadia. I’m going to try to learn more about mushrooms…very fascinating stuff!
  10. Looks like the ones I found yesterday.
  11. …update on fishing… I didn’t make it back to the Lehigh River this morning to try my luck again on the “golden trout”…hopefully tomorrow. My wife joined me this morning as we hiked to a couple small brooks for whatever was interested in my fly…had a few takers (and it’s not always about the size)! Planning to fish Hayes Creek this evening (tributary to the Lehigh)…hopefully the tip was worth the few flies I bought at a nearby fly fishing shop…the owner was surprisingly tight lipped. Hopefully I will have some additional fish pictures to share! Below are a few pictures my wife took during our morning gallivanting.
  12. Not sure where to put this; beer, fish, deer/bear, food… On vacation with my wife’s family (20 people) in an air B&B around southeastern PA. Had one of my most memorable times on the water…besides the rainbows rising to my fly, I sight-fished a 20”+ palomino that eventually swiped at my fly but didn’t stay on… crazy fish/experience…I’m still shaking! Then stopped at beer store for some local “fare”…including peanuts roasted on site… to calm the nerves! …amazing how many different beers are out there. On my way to check out a boulder field at first light, had a bear charge at me. Then saw two big-racked deer in velvet. Finished off with a slow-cooked chicken thigh BBQ and some disc golf. Have a few more days to explore!! (Plan to look for that “golden” trout again in the morning)!
  13. Crazy! My son graduated this year with 480 classmates at a 99.5% graduation rate…we also have very high school taxes…and good teachers which have positive influence on the students. (my son will be majoring in chemistry on a pre-med track. With the very small $ we put in his 529 fund each month since he was born, no additional cost towards his undergraduate degree was needed). Pays to plan ahead! And have parental support! I present to all ages of students on STEM and the importance of education….some students never get out of their neighborhood and have no clue of all the opportunities out in the real world…basically have nothing to aspire to. Parents need to be more involved!
  14. Wanted to thank screamon demon (Charles wife) for doing an awesome job with my customized lure wraps!! My buddies are going to love them!!
  15. Thanks for looking! I’m heading to the Pocono’s for a week-long family trip and wanted to do some fly fishing for trout and bass. I looked at the PFBC site for info on getting a non-resident license (7 days). I see a “7-day Tourist” permit as well as a “Trout Permit”…would I need to buy both or does the “7-day Tourist” license apply to trout fishing too (including fishing in special trout streams). Thanks! Dino
  16. I finished three small food plots the other day and already have sprouts! Hoping this upcoming rain gives them a nice head start….also planted some pumpkins in my plots (left over from my pumpkin patches). I’ll take some Picts later to share.
  17. I’m currently coordinating my 20th annual fishing trip for mid-August. My brothers, son, and college buddies from all around the county meet up to canoe/camp/fish in the ADK area for about 5 days...between 8 and 20 guys typically participate each year. I want to have some type of commemorative paraphernalia made up for the gang for our 20th...I was thinking cozzies but wanted something a bit more original (plus I need a minimum order of like 100..would probably spring for some if I could get maybe 25-50 made). I like the idea of customized fishing lure wraps (made out of PVC) but I’m having a hard time finding a place to order about 25-50 with some text printed on them. Would anyone have any ideas? …or ideas how I could get something printed on them (PVC material) if I bought them ahead of time? …or maybe some other idea of something I could hand out to celebrate our 20 years of fishing/canoeing/camping together? Thanks in advance! Dino PS. If interested in seeing some picts from last year (small turn out due to travel restrictions), take a quick scan of this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcp2I4vyZIs
  18. ...For the record, I’m not at all stereotyping duck hunters...I like to think that most hunters are somewhat responsible and stuarts of the woods. (looking back at the Picts I posted, the Picts don’t come close to accurately depicting the amount of trash and empty shells).
  19. I was out canoeing and fishing on a feeder stream to the St.Lawrence River on Sunday (Cole’s Creek)...having a great time until I came across a duck blind (made of branches) on a little peninsula with empty shotgun shells and other garbage spread about everywhere! Scum bag lazy slobs!!! Such a shame....gives hunters a bad name. Spent the rest of my valuable fishing time picking up someone else’s crap.
  20. ...not a cold-weather sock but they last “forever”! From woods to office...my go to sock. I pick them up when I get the Orvis $25 off $50 coupon as they are a bit pricey.
  21. Was out tent camping with my wife last night and we were awoken this morning by a flock of very noisy turkeys...only a few arm-lengths away from our tent. congrats to those who have harvested!!
  22. Back in my whitewater kayaking days, our club needed to get an attorney involved because we were getting hassled so much...we all received a letter that we would show the police when they stopped us. We had the right to be ON the water (navigatable)...no dams. Regarding the Salmon River (posted sections)...you can drift and fish but not anchor.
