    Alright ,great hunt .Shot shortly after I got into my spot ,he was grunting and looking for doe .Let it rip and he ran 40 yards .I’ll display this guy as proud as the ones hanging on the wall .Unfortunately,I pull in to the drive way and have easily a 150” deer in the yard .Stood there like a statue .any way ,here’s the 6 point .Thought he was an 8 as I seen one side had 4 points .Things happened quick .I did stay for a double (doe)but just had a 4 point come in .

    Not sure how much hunting I can do in the next week unfortunately,my moms been battling cancer and babysitting the kids so I can get out when need be (she insisted ).I know she’s warn out ,So tonight ,anything bigger than a spike is going down .

    Lotta deer cruising this morning .Had a nice shooter through the hardwoods at 50 yards ,didn’t take the shot .

    Legal is 5 3/4 “Jaw spread or under .plenty for fox and coyote .would bigger be better ?maybe for coyotes ,but guys get the job done and have for years with what we have .Could be like many states that have banned foot holds .Just got to keep adapting to what you could use and perfect it .Not complain .

    Imo ,surprisingly NYS still has some pretty decent trapping laws compared to many states .2 things that factor in the loss of trappers :fur prices and no new recruits ie.younger generation.Gas prices also don’t help out .so make that 3 for starters .

    Still have the same turkeys around as in years past .Only thing more abundant now are fishers .Turkeys to me disappear to other roosting areas as if they disappeared,then one day they just all show up again .So maybe they are there ,just found greener pastures ? I will say ,fox ,coyote ,fisher all are tough on a Turkey population .Then you have coon ,skunk and possum along with the above that love the eggs .I’m sure birds of prey get their fair share also .

    Killed a few bucks out of this big pile of logs /sticks that my buddy has in the middle of his back section .I dug out a nice little opening .

    I wouldn’t rush that track .wait at least 6 hours .also ,you may find limited blood ,don’t give up the search ,if liver ,that deer is dead .He may be close by bedded if you didn’t push him .
