Thanks.. I had fun hunting them.

It's just a piece of bone from something that I found and considered using as a bone handle for something, but I could never figure out for what..I left it out so that I'd remember that I had it.

I had only horns(no skull) done on some goats. I attached 2 of them unnaturally because that's the only way that I could eventually display them on my wall. I'm having the 2 rams, that I shot in May 2017 done(European Mount) in Hawaii . I'm not sure where I'll hang them, but just wanted them.

I found some photos from Hawaii and wanted to see if I could attach them, so I tried one. I'm not sure if it'll work.

Yes, that's them...

Jeremy K.... I enjoy watching New Yorkers hunting in various places. I'm not sure if too many people do that also. So, I don't know if you're interested in this, but there are 2 guys from Western NY who hunted Hawaii and have the hunt on Youtube.. I just found that these guys have a local tv show and saw the episode on line also. They hunted goats/sheep/boar.. If you are interested let me know and I'll give you the episode...

I taught myself to text on my flip phone in April so I could get a text message from the outfitter in Hawaii. I liked the text message because I could save it and then I would not forget info that I needed to know for the hunt.... I think that texting is as far as I'll go until I'm forced to change.

Jeremy K, I hate to admit this, but I am obsolete, and did not know what IG was. I just looked it up and learned and read what he was hunting for. I'm a bit behind the times with technology.

I'm curious, what are they hunting for, and on which Island(s). I like to hear about how hunters are doing on the various Islands. Each Island may have different species of game to hunt.. My next hunt will probably be for feral rams again because that's my new addiction, but after that I'm not sure so I like to keep up with current stories of Island hunting. (They call the rams that I've taken on my last trips Black Hawaiian Rams, but I believe that they are a different specie than what the hunting preserves call Black Hawaiians. If, I recall correctly, the Black Hawaiians on the mainland are a breed initiated in Texas.)

Elmo, Yesterday,I got a call from a friend who told me that, about two weeks ago, some bluefish were spiting up squid after they were caught. This was on the south shore at one of the inlets. I was away when that happened, but during the 1st week of May, before I left, I caught blues and didn't see any squid in the bellies of those that I cleaned. So they did come around here in May just as Karpteach reported. I'm heading up to the north shore now, to kayak fish. Sometimes I run into a fisherman up there who fishes all night and does try for squid at times. If he's there I'll ask him for some info for you.

I'm not sure if anyone who reads this post will vacation in Hawaii and want to hunt, but if so I thought that I should mention this. One outfitter, on the Big Island offers hotel pick up before the hunt and drop off at the hotel after the hunt. That may work well for anyone who vacations there with their spouse. It frees up a rental car(if you rented one) so that he/she has opportunities to shop, etc.

Elmo, I don't fish for squid, but know guys that did on both the north and south shores of L.I. WE used fresh snagged fish many years back and found that the fluke would only take those and not the store bought. I don't know if that;'s normal, but it happened that night. (I'm not a fluke fisherman, and only jig for them when bass, or blues are not hitting. Last fall they were near where I was fishing under lights, and a guy who I know was catching them, but the stripers were around and I didn't want to change to my squid jig. I would think that if you called a couple of tackle shops they'd be able to help with info.

I don't hunt much in New York anymore so I don't have anything to post here these days. However, I have hunted in Hawaii a few times since my last post so I thought I'd mention that . In fact, I just returned to New York on Tuesday and had successfully hunted rams on the trip. I had some fun and successful goat and ram hunts on the Big Island and also saw some boar, but the boar were not what I was looking for so I passed on them. I've seen some really great turkeys and even got 3 to gobble at my calling, but I haven't hunted them in Hawaii. I called just for the fun of it. I know that I previously wrote that I was going to boar hunt and even try for Axis deer on Maui, but I got too hung up on the goats and it became an addiction of sorts I guess. I only changed to rams because, last November, I convinced myself that the ram Euro mounts would look good in my room, next to the goats, and they do. I still scout for goats to photograph them, but took a break FOR NOW from shooting another one. I've learned a lot about hunting in Hawaii, and I really enjoyed researching, online, on the phone and by scouting while on Hawaii Island. My wife and I love being on the Islands, so adding a hunt to our vacation is a great addition for me.

I am fully retired for a little over 16 years. It really flew by , but WHATTA RUN !!! I got 2 things left to do.. One is to catch a Musky, the other is to live 16 more years.

Big Island, A goat(Billy). Maybe I'll stop in one day, and we can discuss the hunts.(I don't want to spend time on the computer these days) The GOLDEN YEARS just threw me a curve, but hopefully I'll get back soon for black Hawaiian ram. Then, hopefully, pig and then to Maui for Axis. As wrote earlier, my wife wants me to split the hunts over 3 years so she can spend more time there. She picks the hotels and they have everything she wants so she doesn't care if I go off to hunt. We've been married for most of our lives, but maybe as newlyweds it'd be different

I'm involved in other things so I haven't been participating here, but since I started this I figured that I'd finish it. I went back and got one.. Veni.. Vedi.. Vici. Good luck on your hunts

I posted about Sports Authority getting rid of hunting and fishing here last November 19th ,and advised about the sales...Sorry you missed it.

You are wrong about the teacher, and you do not understand LI. You may accept that , but it's just the way it is.. (These kids were really young, so I doubt that hunting would be included in any ecological discussion.) Seeing a duck hunter in autumn at a marina would shock more people than you may think. my neighbor saw me with a goose in Oct. and when I told him where I shot it, he respectfully questioned the legality.. He kept shaking his head repeating that I was unbelievable. He has lived on LI for most of his adult life, and he's retired....(I'm the only duck hunter that he knows.). I actually started duck hunting a few years after I retired, I did not know any duck hunters, and really never did. I learned by myself and only met other waterfowlers after I started. I had no idea about duck hunting and I was a hunter and lived on LI most of my life. One time,I was hunting in the tidal wetlands, and got stopped by 2 county cops because someone saw guys with guns on the outskirts walking in. When I explained why I had a gun to the pd , they did not know that duck hunters would be there. They were not rookies. I didn't ask, but I guess that they didn't know the tradition. I was in camo, wearing waders and carrying a bag of decoys, and it wasn't Halloween, but I was ordered to put my shotgun on the ground and I was asked questions(they were respectful). In addition, the duck hunting tradition is known by very few these days, and non hunters do not think about it. I can give many more examples, I have many, but I don't think it's necessary.. ( oh yeah,I did not have a dog). In addition, the booing was not the issue , it was an example of problems that can occur, when sharing land, with those opposed hunting and who are seeking a voice. I pointed out what happened in Huntington. When the children and parents were upset, and officials did not like the hunters attitude. they closed the whole Harbor in that town. The North Shore of Long Island has a deep tradition of duck hunting, yet it didn't matter. It's closed !!! To answer your question of would I have felt different if the booing happened in those other areas. Yes, I would have because those lands are designated Refuges, or hunting areas which I suspect are posted as such.. However, sharing those areas with people who do not want to see ducks shot and want more of a voice to compete with hunters concerns me. I think that we have beat this to death now, so we should just end it. Besides, it has only become a discussion between you and I, and I doubt that either of us will change his mind. So we'll just end with some disagreement. Besides, this room is being renovated and it's where I have my computer.

Hound Dog Man.. I love the song too.

The law says that you can't waste ducks which includes merganzers,, the State says you should not eat any Megansers because they are contaminated... The limit of 6 ducks includes merganzers...So you shoot a few, retrieve them, bring them home and throw them away Maybe that situation is not covered in the definition , but in reality, if you shoot a few merganzers, and you shouldn't eat them isn't that a waste. What could the intent of the law be?.. I'm not looking for the answer, it just struck me as odd.

ok, I accept that.. Let's start with the teacher.. Because of the location, I doubt that the teacher knew that hunter's would be there, in fact, I'd be shocked if she knew...Most waterfowl hunters that I know didn't realize that they could hunt there..It's kind of at a Marina with a fishing education center there, then the marsh..I cannot fault teacher for not knowing. If anything the Town could have told her. Remember, this is Long Island, many people here don't even realize that there are duck hunters in the bay. It's just the way it is here. I can give examples of other reasons why she probably didn't know, but it will get too wordy, you'll just have to trust me that it was perfectly understandable.. Also, I heard how she handled it and I was happy with her response, she was really good.. Just for clarification, my earlier posts were first to advise of non and anti hunters attempting to have a voice in our sport. It did not matter to me, while I was writing it, what they were taught about respect for our rights, or understanding what we do.It was just passing on information that I read, and also my opinions. I thought that hunters should be aware of organized groups that are trying to influence our hunting areas. The second part was about non hunters obtaining hunting licenses, and one site not only doesn't respect hunters they preach disruption.. I don't know if you have gotten to read about the non hunters stamp and why they want it. If I got carried away, then I deserve criticism for that. However, the point is that they are against shooting ducks, and want a voice in the refuge. To gain a louder a voice, the stamp was created. They believe that the stamp will produce revenue, so that they can influence legislators. So that's my shorter version..... If you have not read the site, I would hope that you will,, and see if you disagree . I can go into the site and quote parts, but it's better if you read it and give your analysis . We can be specific about the non hunters stamp, and in particular why it was created. No interpretations, just facts. Secondly, if you wish to discuss the non hunters obtaining hunting licenses we can do that on the post after that, so as not to combine thoughts. My intention was not to do battle, just pass on some information. (I will not have continuous internet access over the next few days, so if it takes me time to respond)

Mike Rossi, I've been reading your posts, but I haven't answered yet because I'm trying to locate that other site, to make my point clearer. I should have written it down, or saved it, but I didn't.(I'm somewhat computer illiterate) I will try answer your question as to why I named the stamps. As I read the topics on this site, it appeared to me that many gun owners, myself included, react to laws after they are passed. It's mostly because they(we) didn't see it coming. This is not a criticism, we just get blind sided.( I wish that someone knew that the Town of Huntington was going to close it's waters to hunters before it happened, maybe we could have reached an understanding. Now it's catchup, and I doubt that it will be reversed... I THOUGHT, I guess wrongfully, that if I saw something that I believed was could effect hunting that I should point it out. The identified stamps(licenses) are on the internet. I didn't disclose anything private. It's for anyone to look up, if interested, and determine if they agree with me, or not. The non hunters stamp, in particular does not favor hunters. Take a look at their site and I believe that you will agree with me. The Wildlife Conservation stamp initiators appear, to me, to be looking for their own voice, separate from hunters. They want more to say about issues such as wildlife management. It is my opinion, after reading different info , that they can effect hunting in the refuges The third I can't find again. As far as hunting licenses for non hunters .as I previously wrote, I agree that it can have some positive results. However, when reading anti sites, one in particular that mentions getting a license, the writer instructs how to disrupt hunting and not get caught. In addition , when they are licensed they can have access to areas designated for hunters. On LI we have very little land for hunting. Some have designated spots, I would not want the thought to catch on and I lose a spot to a non hunter. A while back, I saw a youtube thing, where a non hunter was complaining about access to coop lands for hunters. He was standing in one of my waterfowl spots on the coop. I know it's one thing, but it concerns me... Others want more access. A while back,I was booed by children on a field trip to a marsh where I hunt. They were on a newly constructed walkway for nature lovers( the teacher was a true professional and handled it). Another time I went there and was advised by local law enforcement that nature lovers(that's not a negative term, just my description to differentiate them from hunters)), were looking over the marsh. He was not going to stop me, but when I said that I didn't want an audience and was leaving, he was visibly relieved. That spot is now pretty much unavailable for hunting now. Is it because of the new viewing site, maybe not, but I know that the Town does not want us in there... Huntington closed because a goose hunter hit a goose that crashed down near kids. The officials did not like the hunters attitude, although he was right, and I';m sure public pressure led to the closing of the area. .. MY OPINION..As spots open in marshes for non hunters and ducks drop at their feet, pressure may be brought to close areas to hunters, or even maybe divide the marshland.(again.. my opinion) One other issue is the fact that they may participate in hunter surveys, if it catches on those dove hunting surveys, etc. may be answered by non, and even anti hunters. (I did not see a down side in mentioning that.) I gather that most here disagree with me and that's fine with me. Maybe I am over reacting to what I perceive as threats, or ideas that would effect my hunting. If anyone is interested they can read the sites and decide for themselves, if not they can ignore this. I do know that wildlife organizations have money and that they do many good things, but I feel that we should know that some , the ones who do not favor hunting, are out there and be prepared if one of their ideas conflict with ours. Doc.. We disagree, because of our different experiences.. You make some good points, but again we disagree..

"Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms" (Josey Wales).. Sorry, it just made me think of that

I need a box of .30-30 so I called 2 Dick's stores on LI, neither store had what I wanted and neither heard about stopping ammo sales. One person added that I could call their corporate office to ask, another said that they are not stopping ammo sales..... ??
