  1. Hard to believe you didn't shoot a limit Lawdwaz, great looking spot!
  2. Small world indeed. Nice to know a fellow member lives in the area!
  3. Yes sir. A sweet older widow owns it as her husband passed away a few years ago. She's good friends with my buddy's family and is always nice enough to let us hunt the ponds every fall. We only do 2 or 3 hunts to keep the banging down but it's always good for mallards when we do.
  4. Shot our limit of mallards (all drakes) plus two bonus geese over a small crayfish pond. We're shy one mallard because we lost him into some super thick grass that neither us nor the dog could find, but to be fair we counted him as a kill.
  5. Maybe its just me, but the last thing on my mind would be to pull my phone out and post something like this into a hunting forum. Glad you enjoy the site man but focus on being a hunter not a "status updater". Plenty of time for the bragging rights once you recover the animal and get it home. Hope you found him.
  6. Nothing outstanding but some nice bucks regardless. Have yet to hunt this farm, winds haven't been right.
  7. Wind no good for the farm I wanted to hunt so headed to a different property and when I got their a guy was parked in the middle of a prime area not far from my stand, headlights pointed right at my stand in the timber, walking around with a flashlight . So I'm headed duck hunting with a buddy out of frustration but the moral of this story is I love seeing guys walk into Stewart's full camo, hunting boots on, and smoking a cigarette.... Scent control at its finest!
  8. I unfortunately do not have property of my own to play around with as far as planting goes (lucky you!!) so I don't have experience with food plots, but I come from a family of many farmers both past and present and my initial thought was "oooo that looks awfully wet" but I could be wrong. Kudos to you for wanting to better your hunting and provide bed and food for your deer, good luck man!!
  9. I have my own opinions but I try my best to be understanding of everyone on this forum for the sake of our sport. I will say though that if someone shoots a small deer and feels the need to explain to everyone his reasoning for shooting it, in the sense of, "I know it's not that big but it's a buck", or "I wasn't sure what it was but I knew it was a buck" then don't shoot the damn deer because you obviously are being selfish and knew full well that others would raise eye brows at the animals size. I know a guy who shoots scrubs every year and it's not for the meat or because he enjoys the sport and any deer is a trophy, it's because he's a yuppy and he thinks that trigger finger makes him a hunter.
  10. Nothing I would ever use in all honesty but a very creative idea. I like it man.
  11. Try and take a break when the conditions permit, not when you feel you need one. You don't want to be missing out on these colder temps we have this week, take a break if it warms up.
  12. Absolutely kills me to be at work this morning!! You can guarantee there was a lot of scrape activity last night with this cold temp and probably will continue into to this morning. Hunt where the sign is if you have it guys! Good luck!!
  13. Would love to see or even hear some antlers locking. Good stock of bucks you have there land trace.
  14. I believe that's entrance. Just to be clear before I rub anyone the wrong way, I by no means think he was not worthy or any less deserving than myself had I shot the buck, it's just very frustrating when I put in the scouting, waited for the perfect conditions, devised the perfect entrance and exit, and then have to look at the buck after he was shot by someone who has no idea what kind of time and effort was spent in preparation. God's land and creatures are for everyones enjoyment, some of us just enjoy the pursuit of them a bit more than the rest, that's all.
  15. Here he is, a big mature 9. Had a head like a bull on him, I'm guessing a 4.5 year old.
  16. Will post pic of the buck he shot a little later
  17. No good fellas. I let my mind get the best of me and I rushed, must have shot right over his back. We bumped him off a bed when we went back to start looking yesterday morning and seemed to be fine, no blood in bed, no problem getting away. I was heartbroken all day because I worked so hard for him and he really is a true dandy, I felt like I was watching the outdoor channel when he stepped out. The buck he was running with all summer got killed about 10 mins after I shot. Probably spooked when I shot and ran right to an old timer who was sitting in an area that doesn't necessarily have deer movement. Pure luck. Was tough for me to be happy for him. I like when people earn a deer. Never the less, the buck he shot I had named George, easily a 200 pounder.
