  1. Q: May I use my Bow/Muzzleloading tags (either-sex and antlerless tags) during the Regular Season? A: No. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are only valid during the special bowhunting and muzzleloading seasons depending on which privileges you purchased. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are not valid during the Regular Seasons, except in Westchester and Suffolk Counties or by junior archers hunting with a bow during the regular seasons. --so does this mean I can hunt with a bow during the regular season but must tag a buck with my regular season tag?
  2. This topic has been covered before I'm sure, but as I sit here at work hiding in the back room looking through property line maps of course (haha), searching for potential land to ask permission, I'm disappointed us diehard bow guys can't bow hunt during the regular season. A few of the these places I have my eye on I plan to ask permission for bow only just to get my foot in the door for the first year, and because I would prefer to bow hunt anyways. It's a bummer though that I would have to be done on these properties after November 15th until the very late season. What's the states thinking behind not allowing bow during the regular season?
  3. Looks like Mr. Greg has some predators to thin out!
  4. I watch all of Dr. Grant Woods videos on his YouTube channel called "GrowingDeerTV" which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, so informational!! Anyways, he said in one of his videos that during his studies of scrape lines for his master degree I believe he said, he found that scrape activity is at it's highest during a light to moderate rain or immediately after because bucks want to keep their scrapes good and stinky, so I will be sure to hunt in the rain more frequently this year when the wind is right!
  5. Everything you said is completely true Wooly I just don't want to admit it!! I guess it's just a false sense of hope that I'm taking risks and hoping the rain works to my benefit. Most of my property's don't offer the safe bet of hunting the fringes for the good bucks on the properties. Of course I can see good deer numbers in general hunting the field edges, but my cameras and my experiences, as well as my fathers 30+ years say that slipping into the timber an "uncomfortable" distance so to speak, is the best chance of catching a rack buck. I always respect your knowledge though Wooly!
  6. I usually roll solo, but I always wear a safety harness when hanging stands in the rain!
  7. As a self-proclaimed scent free whack job, I prefer to hang stands and hang/check cameras in a mild to heavy rain during pre-season and in-season. I really feel when keeping tabs on particular deer that require entry into dangerous areas as far as educating them is concerned, sneaking around in the rain is a legitimate tactic. Please share your own techniques and experinces.
  8. Big deer love swamps, plain and simple, so we know they're in their, that's the good news. The bad news is that swamps can drive a man to drink trying to figure out how to hunt it. In my opinion most swamp bucks are nocturnal anyways so wait until the rut to hunt it. Swamps are notorious for having hidden routes that are for entry only and escape only. It's important to find these spots and put very little pressure on him. Chances are during the rut not only will those bucks leave the swamp, but they'll probably attempt to push estrous does back into it and the actions could get reallll good!
  9. I respect all opinions. That's a cool bit of background info dinsdale.
  10. Makes a heck of a lot of sense to me ladies and gentleman. I'm certainly not looking to start a heated threat, but read it and really think about it, I think you may feel differently afterwards. http://arforny.com/
  11. Well said Bill. Although I have younger eyes, I too have become concerned with the fact that my pins are jam packed together, and I like the idea of a single pin that I could dial in to an exact yardage. Take a look at the HHA OL-5019, I have read nothing but good things about HHA single-pins, and for $120 dollars you'll probably never buy another sight again, I know it will definitely be my next one.
  12. Sorry to hear that Boo. Sounds like an extended fence that encompasses your entire property is the solution to this one. Karma is very real, and from the sounds of it this guy has a good deal of it coming his way.
  13. Good lookin' group of bucks
  14. Although I have yet to chase bucks through big woods like the ADK's, I got my hands on a Benoit book called "Big Bucks the Benoit Way" I believe, I look forward to reading it soon!
  15. Just goes to show that mature bucks don't miss a thing
  16. Cool buck joe! He gets a pass though man!
  17. I too have toy'd with the idea of accessing certain locations by water, but to me, it seems like a nightmare from a scent control standpoint. I would have to think paddling of any sort will bring on some degree of perspiration. At the same time, I know of plenty of good deer killed along waterways every year, especially wooded swamps with decent size islands in them.
  18. It's a picture off my cell phone. It's as real as it comes. The local QDMA branch in my area has it placed on a wagon along Rt. 29. The banner is about 5' tall by 6' wide.
