NYbuck50
This pic was taken at about 2 feet. Ive had does come up to the car windows before in the Adirondack's, but never a buck. This fella came right up to the window and popped his nose in, letting me pet him on the head, with my beagle in the back seat. Kind of surreal as a buck hunter to be able to pet your quarry without shooting him first. *** Note, this photo was taken on private property and we did not feed him, therefore not in violation of the "dont feed the deer or stop on the highway signs***
Sogaard
Well, either he is what one should define as a very "Special" deer, or someone is feeding him. I know many, many deer that have never, ever been hunted and live very close to populated areas that still don't let you get within 40-50 feet of them. I've never heard of a truly wild animal coming up to you unless its sick.
Fletch
Inlet and Old Forge area have deer all over in the town. They were fed very regularily by locals and tourists up until the ban. And since it is pretty realistic that some level of feeding is still going on. You stop your car and they come up to you looking for food that is a pretty trained behavior. NYbuck50
Its pretty common up there actually, juts not for bucks. There's 20 or 30 deer that basically live right in town, that im pretty sure are fed all year long, and no one shoots at them.. I have have had young ones walk right up to me in the woods, 4-5miles up in the mountains and just stare at you, likely because they havent seen a human yet
wooly
Man, that's just a cool "close encounter" no matter what the circumstances! Glad you had your cam handy! I had a wild fawn lick me this spring.....you just never know what some critters are gonna do when you meet up at the right place, at the right time. NY Region 3 Trapper
Refreshing to see the name Inlet. Been going there for a couple years in February to Ice Fish. Deer are always crossing the ice, Rubs on the islands. Such a nice place.
erussell
Had a huge 8 point try and stick his whole rack in the car driving thru old Forge about 10 yrs ago. He really liked triskets and he wanted the whole box. Probably for the salt.
