is there a restriction on how many shells the shotgun you are using holds. i know rifles are 6 or less. anything for shotgun?

Depends. If its an autoloader, its 6 rounds or less. If its any other I dont see any restrictions.

I always read it was 5 Max. They sold wooded dowels to fill in the space so they would only hold 5.

auto-loaders cannot hold more than 6 rounds in magazine and chamber combined, unless altered so as to reduce its capacity to no more than 6 rounds.......an auto-loading firearm is defined as one which reloads itself after each shot and requires the trigger be pulled back for each shot.

Those are actually for waterfowl, and the restriction for waterfowl is 3.

I have the wooden dowel in my shotgun which limits it to 2+1 in the chamber. This is a requirement for waterfowl hunting. I'm just too lazy to remove it and I never anticipate needing more than that to take down a deer.
