Dom
We sure do not get the winter's that I remember as a youngster.I can remember going out durring bow season and have snow shin sometimes knee deep and temps barely getting to the freezing temp.Shot gun seasons were always freezing and within the last ten seasons it hardly ever get's cold/freezing.I sure miss the day's when getting ready to go hunting walk out side and bam frost/cold nostriles frozen instantly.
growalot
We may not be getting the snow here but the pendulum swing between warm and freezing cold has been crazy...This has been the noisiest hunting season I've ever had....The frost in the ground with no snow....many mornings have been spent sitting in the low to mid 20's. Then the next thing ya know it's in the 50-60 range...which I don't usually hunt in unless early bow season....spent a lot of time out of the woods this year because of that...going out in a bit today though.... Suilleabhain
I was talking about that this week. In the 60's we hung our deer to age for like a week, there was snow opening day and deep snow by the last weekend. In the 70's the snow let up but the carpet of leaves were 6 inches deep and like corn flakes to walk in. You hear deer 150 yards out. Now I get no snow, frost on the leaves at most and had to pack my deer with ice last year until the butcher could get to him.
landtracdeerhunter
I wouldn't be to upset if we had another winter like last. There were some tough winters, from the 60's on, but also remember winters like last when Lake Erie never froze over. The winter of 63 and 77 sticks in my mind the most. Those were 2 of the worst ones, when V plows and pay loaders were used to open fire routes, and get the milk off the farms.
Suilleabhain
77 was a doll. I lived in Brooklyn during that blizzard and walked from 25th avenue down 86th street to 4th avenue to get a working subway line.
landtracdeerhunter
We were also suffering from an energy crises in 77, which made it all the worst. Schools were closed for weeks with no fuel oil.The winds blew for weeks In January with 30" of snow on the ground. 20' snow drifts were very common. growalot
I remember walking around the block with friends listening to the tree pop in the ice storm we had in
