SteveMcD
Is anyone familiar with the Westchester public parks bowhuner-archery proficiency test? Most public land areas in Westchester that are open to bow hunting require a proficiency test for prospective bow hunters.

pewlodar
Not sure on Westchester but Webster, NY has a simple hit a target from 10, 20 and 30 yards test before being allowed to hunt in the Town bow hunt program.
mac
Steve , where did you hear about that? From time to time people in Westchester bring the topic up on this sight but not sure where or which parks actually require it.
clayshooter25
It is also my understanding that after applying for a permit to hunt, there is test given in the springtime, whereby you have to qualify with your bow. I know, that doesn't say anything more than you did, but I am confirming what you heard. Try contacting one of the parks that allows hunting for details. jonathon88
hi steve yes thats correct. the county park bow hunting program for westchester is based on passing a proficiency test and attending a mandatory orientation meeting in the fall.try googling the park where you wish to hunt and it should have an explanation of this procedure and who to contact. crappyice
I was in the program this year. It allows access to Muscoot, ward pound, Lasdon park and mountain lakes. After you submit forms and pass test, there is then a lottery to select who is in for the upcoming season. They allow 100 hunters but those who meet all requirements from the previous year are automatically accepted back if they pass the shooting test again. I liked it since it put me in contact wit a lot of other hunters, many of which were very helpful with spots and dee movement.
